Maybe not outside a Dr. Seuss book - but Scone Grammar School promises to bring you just that and more when they stage Seussical Jr. later this month. The hit stage musical will transport the audience from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus; where Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant. Throughout Horton’s journey the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant. A cast and crew of 85 have been working hard on the show since February including participating in an acting level with renowned Australian actress Rachael Beck from Home and Away fame. Scone Grammar School is truly grateful for the huge amount of support they have had from parents and community volunteers to bring this highly popular musical to life, with much assistance and hard work going behind the scenes creating the sets and costumes. There are only fi ve performances in the season: 20 June, 21 June, 22 June, 28 June and 29 June @ 6.00pm St Luke’s Hall, Scone. Get ready to celebrate the Upper Hunter’s Scottish heritage at the Aberdeen Highland Games on Saturday, July 7. Dr Wej Paradice (pictured right) will be Chieftan of this year’s event, which is set to knock the socks off both returning visitors and fi rst-timers. The Aberdeen Highland Games is an action-packed day of events with something for all the family. After the Grand Opening Ceremony, which occupies the whole of Harrison Oval, several events take place consecutively at various points on the oval. The Tartan Warriors will return along with the stirring sounds of the pipe bands and the fabulous market stalls. Get ready to kick up your heels and have some fun at the ceilidh in the evening. Get in the spirit ahead of the day on July 1 for International Tartan Day, and warm up with a round of golf at Aberdeen for a tartan golf day on Friday July 6. Images courtesy Aberdeen Highland Games committee and Amanda Gaffney Ray. $10 million package for Muswellbrook and Denman The state government will spend $10 million upgrading roads around Muswellbrook and revitalising the city centre in Denman. The funding for the two Upper Hunter projects was secured under round fi ve of the NSW Government’s Resources for Regions program. Announcing the funding in Muswellbrook recently Deputy Premier John Barilaro also confi rmed another $50 million in new funding reserved for round six of the Resources for Regions program will be part of the upcoming 2018-19 budget. Member for Upper Hunter Michael Johnsen said the funding secured from round fi ve would make a huge difference for drivers in and around Muswellbrook, and would also transform the iconic town of Denman. Mr Barilaro said $7.7 million has been committed to improving ten different roads and intersections around Muswellbrook, and $2.5 million will go towards the revitalisation of Denman’s city centre.
