The Readercon Restaurant Guide
The Readercon Restaurant Guide or, You Can’t Eat the Books A Word about This Guide This is not an exhaustive list. It was compiled by locals for your dining pleasure, so that you may determine what local dining options are open to you. To that purpose, we have decided to concentrate in a few local areas: in the hotel; Mall Road; north and south on the Middlesex Turnpike (including the Burlington Mall), plus a plaza at the intersection of Network Drive and Route 62; a short ways south on 3A; up Route 3 north (Cambridge St.), toward Burlington center; Lexington center; and Woburn, near Logan Express (very briefly). Most of the restaurants listed here are within a 15-20 minute drive (barring rush hour). The hotel shuttle will also take you to the Burlington Mall and Wayside Commons (just the other side of the highway on 3A south). In decent weather, a reasonably able person can also walk the mile or so to the Burlington Mall or Wayside Commons; places on Mall Road are even closer. In addition to a listing by location (which includes maps), there is also a listing by food type (Chinese, Mexican, etc.), places that are good for groups (always call ahead for more than six people), and places for special diets (vegan, gluten-free, kids). These listings do not have the brief reviews and data that the listings by location do, so they are cross-referenced to the location. Our reviews are necessarily brief. Under the location listings, we haven’t reviewed everything-, if you don’t know what a McDonald’s or Starbucks is, we want to know what planet you’re from. -

Cigarette butts make up the vast majority of litter items (66%) when examining litter in terms of their numbers, but only 0.2% of overall litter volume.1 A very different picture emerges when looking at the volume of litter, where small plastic bottles and non-alcoholic cans together make up 43% of the volume of all litter, while only comprising 3% of the litter item count. -

Yet, such stationarity assumptions have been little tested. We used global and geographically weighted regression models to explore associations between the residential food environment and fruit and vegetable intake. Analyses were performed in four East London boroughs, using the data of 969 adults in The ORiEL (Olympic Regeneration in East London) Study, collected between April and July 2012. Exposures were assessed both as absolute densities of healthy and unhealthy outlets taken separately, and as a relative measure (%healthy outlets). -

Limited access to healthy food options may contribute to unhealthy diets3, 4. Studying diets is challenging, typically restricted to small sample sizes, single locations, and non-uniform design across studies, and has led to mixed results on the impact of the food environment5–21. Here we leverage smartphones to track diet health and weight status in a country-wide observational study of 1,164,926 U.S. participants and 2.3 billion food entries to study the independent contri- butions of fast food and grocery access, income and education on these outcomes. This study con- stitutes the largest nationwide study examining the impact of the food environment on diet to date, with 300 times more participants and 4 times more person years of tracking than the Framingham Heart Study. We find that higher access to grocery stores, lower access to fast food, higher income and education are independently associated with higher consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, lower consumption of fast food and soda, and lower likelihood of being overweight/obese, but that these associations vary significantly across predominantly Black, Hispanic, and White zip codes. -
