Taking Guizhou province as the research area and based on MODIS and continuous forest inventory data in China, we used a machine learning algorithm to build a rocky desertification model with bedrock exposure rate, temperature difference, humidity, and other characteristic factors and considered improving the model accuracy from the spatial and temporal dimensions. The results showed the following: (1) The supervised classification method was used to build a rocky desertifi- cation model, and the logical model, RF model, and SVM model were constructed separately. The accuracies of the models were 73.8%, 78.2%, and 80.6%, respectively, and the kappa coefficients were 0.61, 0.672, and 0.707, respectively. SVM performed the best. (2) Vegetation types and vegetation Citation: Qian, C.; Qiang, H.; Wang, seasonal phases are closely related to rocky desertification. After combining them, the model accuracy F.; Li, M.

  • Westernisation, Ideology and National Identity in 20Th-Century Chinese Music
Westernisation, Ideology and National Identity in 20th-Century Chinese Music Yiwen Ouyang PhD Thesis Royal Holloway, University of London DECLARATION OF AUTHORSHIP I, Yiwen Ouyang, hereby declare that this thesis and the work presented in it is entirely my own. Where I have consulted the work of others, this is always clearly stated. Signed: Date: 19 May 2012 I To my newly born baby II ABSTRACT The twentieth century saw the spread of Western art music across the world as Western ideology and values acquired increasing dominance in the global order. How did this process occur in China, what complexities does it display and what are its distinctive features? This thesis aims to provide a detailed and coherent understanding of the Westernisation of Chinese music in the 20th century, focusing on the ever-changing relationship between music and social ideology and the rise and evolution of national identity as expressed in music. This thesis views these issues through three crucial stages: the early period of the 20th century which witnessed the transition of Chinese society from an empire to a republic and included China’s early modernisation; the era from the 1930s to 1940s comprising the Japanese intrusion and the rising of the Communist power; and the decades of economic and social reform from 1978 onwards. The thesis intertwines the concrete analysis of particular pieces of music with social context and demonstrates previously overlooked relationships between these stages. It also seeks to illustrate in the context of the appropriation of Western art music how certain concepts acquired new meanings in their translation from the European to the Chinese context, for example modernity, Marxism, colonialism, nationalism, tradition, liberalism, and so on.

  • Application of AHP Method and TOPSIS Method in Comprehensive Economic Strength Evaluation of Major Cities in Guizhou Province
2017 International Conference on Computer Science and Application Engineering (CSAE 2017) ISBN: 978-1-60595-505-6 Application of AHP Method and TOPSIS Method in Comprehensive Economic Strength Evaluation of Major Cities in Guizhou Province Liang Zhou*, Changdi Shi and Liming Luo Information Engineering College, Capital Normal University, 100048 Beijing, China ABSTRACT This paper establishes the comprehensive economic strength evaluation system of major cities in Guizhou province, and puts forward the evaluation model of comprehensive economic strength of major cities in Guizhou province based on the AHP method and the TOPSIS method. The AHP method was used to determine the weight of evaluation indicator. The TOPSIS method is used to calculate the positive and negative ideal solutions, analyses the case, and then the final ranking of the comprehensive economic strength of the major cities in Guizhou province. The result shows that the final ranking, from high to low, of comprehensive economic strength of the major cities in Guizhou province is: Guiyang, Zunyi, Liupanshui, Tongren and Anshun. The evaluation system of the comprehensive economic strength indicator of the major cities in Guizhou province has a certain practicability, which provides an evaluation basis in comprehensive economic strength for the major cities in Guizhou province. INTRODUCTION In recent years, with the establishment of large data centers and the promulgation of precision poverty alleviation policies, the national economy and social development of the major cities in Guizhou have made breakthrough progress, but the cities developed unevenly, so it is necessary to explore how to establish a good and scientific comprehensive economic evaluation system. This paper is focused on evaluating the comprehensive economic strength of major cities in Guizhou province effectively.

  • My Visits to the Hmong in the Triangle of Guizhou, Sichuan and Yunnan
A Hmong Scholar’s Visit to China: the Hmong in the Triangle of Guizhou, Sichuan and Yunnan by Kou Yang Nyob luag ntuj yoog luag txuj, nyob luag av yoog luag tsav (‘In Rome be like the Romans’--- Hmong proverb) I have made a few visits to the Hmong of the triangle of Guizhou, Sichuan and Yunnan, and will highlight below two of these visits: the visit in August 2009 to the Hmong of Qianxi (黔西),and my 2014 visit to the Hmong of Xingwen, Gong xian, Junlian, Gulin, Xuyong, Yanjin, Yiliang and Zhaotong. In early August 2009, I led a group of international scholars of Hmong studies to do a post conference visit to the Hmong/Miao in Guizhou Province, China. This visit was under the auspices and sponsorship of the Guizhou Miao Studies Association (also known as the Miao Cultural Development Association), and the guidance of its Vice-President, Professor Zhang Xiao. The group visited both Qiandongnan (Southeast Guizhou) and Qianxi (West Guizhou) Hmong/Miao of Guizou. The visit was my third trip to Qiandongnan, so it was not so special because I had previously written about and travelled to many areas within Qiandongnan. Moreover, Qiandongnan has been Guizhou’s premier cultural tourist region for decades; the Hmu represent the largest sub-group of the Miao in Qiandongnan. The language of the Hmu belongs to the Eastern branch of the Miao language. Economically, educationally, and politically, the Hmu are much better off than the Hmong and Ah Mao, who speak the Western branch of the Miao language. For example, I met with so many politicians, bureaucrats and professors of Hmu ancestry in Guiyang, but only one professor of Hmong descent.

  • A Geographic History of Song-Dynasty Chan Buddhism: the Decline of the Yunmen Lineage
decline of the yunmen lineage Asia Major (2019) 3d ser. Vol. 32.1: 113-60 jason protass A Geographic History of Song-Dynasty Chan Buddhism: The Decline of the Yunmen Lineage abstract: For a century during China’s Northern Song era, the Yunmen Chan lineage, one of several such regional networks, rose to dominance in the east and north and then abruptly disappeared. Whereas others suggested the decline was caused by a doctri- nal problem, this essay argues that the geopolitics of the Song–Jin wars were the pri- mary cause. The argument builds upon a dataset of Chan abbots gleaned from Flame Records. A chronological series of maps shows that Chan lineages were regionally based. Moreover, Song-era writers knew of regional differences among Chan lin- eages and suggested that regionalism was part of Chan identity: this corroborates my assertion. The essay turns to local gazetteers and early-Southern Song texts that re- cord the impacts of the Song–Jin wars on monasteries in regions associated with the Yunmen lineage. Finally, I consider reasons why the few Yunmen monks who sur- vived into the Southern Song did not reconstitute their lineage, and discuss a small group of Yunmen monks who endured in north China under Jin and Yuan control. keywords: Chan, Buddhism, geographic history, mapping, spatial data n 1101, the recently installed emperor Huizong 徽宗 (r. 1100–1126) I authored a preface for a new collection of Chan 禪 religious biogra- phies, Record of the Continuation of the Flame of the Jianzhong Jingguo Era (Jianzhong Jingguo xudeng lu 建中靖國續燈錄, hereafter Continuation of the Flame).1 The emperor praised the old “five [Chan] lineages, each ex- celling in a family style 五宗各擅家風,” a semimythical system promul- gated by the Chan tradition itself to assert a shared identity among the ramifying branches of master-disciple relationships.
