La flora vascolare della Penisola del Sinis (Sardegna Occidentale). Viene presentato lo studio della flora vascolare della Penisola del Sinis; in totale sono state rinvenute 760 unità tassonomiche e in particolare 615 specie, 134 sottospecie, 10 varietà e 1 ibrido, riferibili a 365 generi e 87 famiglie. Le Eudicots sono risultate il gruppo sistematico dominante. Le famiglie più rappresentate sono: Poaceae (99 unità tassonomiche), Fabaceae e Asteraceae (85), Caryophyllaceae (33), Apiaceae (27) e Orchidaceae (24). I generi con maggior numero di taxa sono: Trifolium (19), Silene (14), Limonium e Medicago (13), Ophrys (12), Euphorbia e Vicia (10), Plantago (9), Allium (8) e infine Lotus, Ranunculus e Vulpia (7). Il contingente delle endemiche (54 unità tassonomiche) è risultato pari al 8,97% della componente mediterranea e mostra una dominanza degli elementi sardo-corsi (33,33%) e secondariamente sardi (24,10%), i quali unitamente raggiungono il 57,43% del totale. La flora endemica è costituita da 31 specie, 17 sottospecie e 6 varietà, inquadrati in 38 generi e 22 famiglie. Le famiglie più rappresentate sono risultate le Plumbaginaceae (10), Asteraceae e Lamiaceae (5), Fabaceae (4), Alliaceae, Euphorbiaceae e Ranunculaceae (3); il genere più ricco è risultato Limonium (10), seguito da Allium, Delphinium, Euphorbia, Scrophularia, Silene e Teucrium (2). -

Box 9514, NL-2300 RA Leiden, The Netherlands The pollen morphology and ultrastructure of the subtribe Salviinae were investigated with light, scanning electron, and transmission electron microscopy. In addition, cladistic analyses of the obtained morphological data, supplemented with rbcL data from GenBank, were conducted in order to assess the phylogenetic signal of palynological characters. Salviinae pollen is small to large, oblate to prolate in shape, with a circular to slightly elliptic amb, and mostly hexacolpate. Perovskia abrotanoides appears to be distylous and shows a significant pollen dimorphism between pin and thrum flowers. The sexine ornamentation of the genera Lepechinia and Chaunostoma is perforate, while the ornamentation of other genera is bireticulate. Perovskia expresses a unique type of sexine ornamentation. The sexine ornamentation variation in Salvia has systematic importance but only partly corresponds with current phylogenetic hypotheses. -

Functional Plant Science and Biotechnology ©2007 Global Science Books Lamiaceae Lectins Gerardo Pérez* • Nohora Vega Biochemistry Laboratory, Chemistry Department, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá, Colombia Corresponding author : * [email protected] ABSTRACT The Lamiaceae family is widely distributed throughout the world and some species have been used in folk medicine, gastronomy and as a source of essential oils and aromas since ancient times; secondary metabolites from many species from Eurasia and North-America have been characterised during the last 5-6 decades. By contrast, species from the neotropical Calosphace Benth. subgenus have been little explored, despite their great diversity. Studies on seeds have been limited to mucilage distribution, chromosome patterns and, since the 1970s, to the presence of lectins, mainly in Salvia and Sclarea Benth. subgenera from the temperate zone. This review initially summarises the available information concerning the presence of lectins in both temperate and neotropic genera, the former being the subject of the pioneering work of Bird’s group in the 1970s which revealed the presence of seed lectins able to recognise the Tn antigen (GalNAc Ser/Thr). Later work has contributed to further our knowledge regarding neotropic genera lectins. The various detection methods used for assessing the presence of lectins in Lamiaceae seeds and vegetative tissues are discussed. The biochemical characteristics of lectins isolated from five genera (Salvia, Lepechinia, Moluccella, Glechoma and Clerodendron), their structural features and fine specificity are compared. Recent findings concerning their interactions with cell lines and Tn antigen-containing tumour cells are presented. An overview is given about their potential applications and those research lines which would help us in better understanding these lectins. -

Numerous works were carried out on wetland vascular plants from Morocco, but it not obvious to come up with a comprehensive synthesis or an update of the data. To highlight the current state of knowledge on wetland facultative vascular plants from Morocco, a synthesis of previous related works was carried out. Thus, an inventory of 338 plant taxa, belonging to 220 genera and 72 botanical families, has been established. The endemic taxa are represented by 65 species and subspecies. In addition, 58 species and subspecies are included in the IUCN red list. The geographical distribution and, where appropriate, the auto-ecological data have also been reported for each taxon inventoried.
