Cammish gets the jump on Ammermüller Thirty drivers took part in last Sunday’s round of the Mobil 1 Porsche Supercup action at the Hungaroring. This was the fifth Supercup meeting of the season (although the sixth race), and coincided with the Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend. The thrilling Hungarian track, located north of Budapest, has seen interesting battles and dramas in the past because of its particular layout. The first Supercup race at the Hungaroring was organised in 1993, and was won by former F1 champion Mika Hakkinen. www.porscheroadandrace.com Cammish leads Ammermüller in the early stages of the Supercup race at the Hungaroring on 30 July 2017 Just like Monaco, the qualifying position is crucial, as there are very few overtaking opportunities for the drivers, but one such opportunity is at the end of the start/finish straight. Points leader, Michael Ammermüller (Lechner MSG Racing Team), set the best time during the qualifying session (1:46.926) and started from pole position for the second time of the season (after Monaco). British Carrera Cup points leader and Le Mans Carrera Cup winner, Dan Cammish (Ammermüller’s team mate), set the second fastest lap time (1:47.107). The experienced Austrian Team Lechner – with its multiple entries in Supercup – seemed to have found the perfect set-up, with three cars occupying the first three places. Ammermüller and Cammish were followed by title contender and Porsche Carrera Cup Germany points leader, Norwegian driver Dennis Olsen (Walter Lechner Racing Team) (1:47.192) and by the Polish driver Robert Lukas (Olimp Racing by Lukas Motorsport) with a www.porscheroadandrace.com time of 1:47.268. Behind, Robert Lukas also made a good start and overtook Olsen at the second corner for third place in the race. Young Italian Mattia Drudi (son of GT Star Luca Drudi, ex-Le Mans and Daytona GT class winner with Porsche) from Dinamic Motorsport, was right behind them in fifth place. www.porscheroadandrace.com Mattia Drudi in relaxed mood before the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race at the Hungaroring on 30 July 2017 Further back in the field, a collision at the first corner between Chris Bauer (FORCH Racing), Tom Sharp (IDL Racing) and Ryan Cullen (Walter Lechner Racing Team), resulted in all three cars and drivers exiting the race prematurely. www.porscheroadandrace.com Dennis Olsen passes the pits and grandstand during the Supercup race at the Hungaroring on 30 July 2017 After the yellow-flag period, due to evacuation of the track, Cammish launched an attack as evidenced by a series of fastest laps, the fastest lap of the race, a time of 1:49.016, was set on the sixth lap. But at the same time, Ammermüller applied a lot of pressure and indicated his intention of overtaking to recover his first place. He eventually achieved this on the eighth lap, when he completed his overtaking manoeuvre at the second corner. In the meantime, Olsen had passed Lukas on the fourth lap after a mistake of the Polish driver (braking too late for corner 12). He then profited from the battle in front of him and managed to gain ground on Ammermüller and Cammish, being only 1.2 sec behind the leader by lap 9. At the end of lap 10 (out of 14), Olsen attacked at the last corner and with a better exit, he kept his speed to the start/finish line taking second place from Cammish. The Briton seemed to have been struggling with his tyre management during the race. www.porscheroadandrace.com Thomas Preining in the early stages of the Supercup race at the Hungaroring on 30 July 2017 Towards the end of the race, an interesting battle for seventh place developed between Josh Webster (Fach Auto Tech) and Porsche Junior driver Thomas Preining (Konrad Motorsport). Unfortunately, the two collided on lap 12 after a risky overtaking attempt from Preining at turn 8. It is interesting to note the number of young drivers coming through from single seaters, and seeking an official opportunity with Porsche, as the Mobil 1 Supercup has proved to be a good recruiting series for future champions. www.porscheroadandrace.com Steven Palette during the Supercup race at the Hungaroring on 30 July 2017 Ammermüller leads Olsen in the German Carrera Cup championship, and with this fourth win of the season so far, he increased his lead over Olsen in the overall Supercup standings. A disappointing result came by 2017 race winner, the Australian Matt Campbell (fifth in qualifying), saw him finishing in the middle of the field, in 16th place, having suffered with a clutch problem before the start of the race. www.porscheroadandrace.com Roar Lindland passes the pits and grandstand during the Supercup race at the Hungaroring on 30 July 2017 Roar Lindland (MRS Cup-Racing) won the amateur class (B) with an eighth-place overall finish, but was disqualified at the end of the race and stripped of victory, which then went to Egidio Perfetti (MOMO Megatron). Porsche Junior Matt Campbell (AUS/Fach Auto Tech) scored his second victory of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season on Sunday at Monza, Italy. Zaid Ashkanani (KUW/MRS GT Racing) and Mattia Drudi (I/Dinamic Motorsport) finished on positions two and three respectively after an eventful ninth championship round. In the overall classification heading into the double-header grand finale in Mexico with the 485 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, the situation looks extremely close: Only three points separate championship leader Michael Ammermüller (D/Lechner MSG Racing Team) and Porsche Junior Dennis Olsen (N/Walter Lechner Racing Team), after Olsen achieved fifth place today, with Ammermüller on tenth. At Monza, Olsen has clinched an early victory in the rookie classification. The weekend at the racetrack on the outskirts of Milan held several surprises for the 31-strong field of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. After the free practice on Friday in bright sunshine, Saturday brought heavy rain. With water flooding the track surface, the qualifying session scheduled at midday Saturday had to be cancelled for safety reasons. Accordingly, the free practice result determined the grid positions. Campbell was thrilled with his pole position, which he turned into a lights-to-flag victory: “I’m really pleased to have won this race. After the first lap there was a brief safety car phase because a car went into the gravel. My restart went really well and that was the key to success.

Philipp Eng (Market Leader Team by Project 1) from Austria celebrated a successful weekend in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. On the 5.891 kilometre Silver- stone circuit, famed for its fast corners, 25-year-old Eng crossed the finish line first ahead of Alex Riberas (E/The Heart of Racing by Lechner) and Michael Ammermül- ler (D/Lechner Racing Middle East). “I got away perfectly at the start and I’m over the moon with this important win. Silverstone is a demanding track and everything simply ran very smoothly for me,” said Eng, after receiving his trophy. With 70 points, Eng ranks first in the drivers’ standings after four of eleven championship rounds. A total of 31 competitors from 13 countries headed into the Silverstone weekend on Friday with their 460 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race cars. By Sunday, Eng was the undisputed man of the series, claiming pole position in qualifying and victory at Sun- day’s race. From the first race of the season in Barcelona, Eng’s form has continued on an upward trajectory. At the season-opener he finished on fourth, in Monaco and Spielberg he clinched second, and now at Silverstone the Salzburg-born racer finally netted his first Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup win of the season. Riberas was another strong contender this weekend. As the fastest in practice and the second fastest in qualifying, the Lechner pilot kept Eng under constant pressure and at times even came within 0.3-seconds of the leader.

    Rounds 13 & 14: Silverstone – Races 18 September 2016 Porsche Carrera Cup GB: Silverstone, rounds thirteen and fourteen – race reports Cammish reigns supreme at Silverstone to secure second championship Reigning champion Dan Cammish (Redline Racing) became only the third driver in Porsche Carrera Cup GB history to secure back-to-back championships, displaying his mastery of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car with two pole positions and race wins. Cammish was not alone in leaving Silverstone with a title, however, as Redline Racing secured the Team title. Fellow team member Charlie Eastwood laid claim to the 2016 Rookie title, while Euan McKay (IN2 Racing) battled his way to an unassailable lead in the Pro-Am1 category. Round thirteen Cammish made a perfect start and was never troubled after he surged ahead, posting the fastest lap on his way to taking his 10th win of the season. Before the lights had even turned green, Tom Sharp (IDL Racing) dashed to the pits on the formation lap with possible clutch issues. A bitter disappointment for the 2015 Rookie champion, as despite posting the second fastest lap he could improve no further than to 16th. Behind Cammish battles raged, Stephen Jelley (Team Parker Racing) briefly taking second place from Tom Oliphant (Team Redline) before a signature move from Oliphant around the outside saw him reclaim the place. With one more challenge from Jelley at Brooklands rebuffed, Oliphant strode to a strong second place and a long-overdue podium finish for the rapid newcomer.
