2020-21 GHSA Basketball Study Guide 1. The ideal length for a high school basketball court is 84 feet. RB P.8 2. Shadow bordered lines are permissible on a NFHS basketball court. RB P.9 3. The free throw lane is 14 feet wide. RB P.9 4. The net attached to the ring should be 24 inches in length. RB P.12 5. All legal backboards must be transparent. RB P.10 6. The timer must sound a warning signal 15 seconds before the end of a 60 second time out. RB P.20 22. The referee will instruct the timer to give a warning signal after an injured player is replaced and another signal to start play 20 seconds after the first signal. Clinic 23. RB P.29 36. An unsporting foul on an assistant coach is an indirect foul on the head coach and counts as one foul toward the team total for the half. RB P.34 and CLINIC 37. After the initial guarding position is obtained the guard may raise or jump within his/her own vertical plane. RB P.35 38. Illegal contact during a dead ball situation can be ruled as a personal foul. RB P.33 39. The mere fact that contact occurs does not constitute a foul. RB P.37 40. During a jump ball nonjumpers may move toward the center circle at any time. RB P.48 55. After the toss to begin the game and before possession is gained there is a held ball between A3 and B4. Another jump ball shall be administered between A3 and B4. RB P.50 56. If the ball is out of bounds because of touching a player who is on a boundary line such player caused the ball to go out.
