“Our DNA is as a consumer company—for that individual customer who’s voting thumbs up or thumbs down. That’s who we think about. And we think that our job is to take responsibility for the complete user experience. And if it’s not up to par, it’s our fault, plain and simply.” – Steve Jobs Since last we met a year ago, my company, F+W, has grown and evolved. New acquisitions including New Track Media, a powerhouse in the world of niche crafts and the multibillion dollar quilting industry. New ownership in our valued partners at Tinicum, L.P. who believe in our mission and allow us to grow and thrive through smart investment in the Company’s underpinnings and future acquisitions. And a new Company name: from F+W Media to F+W, A Content + eCommerce Company. A nuanced change but one that better reflects who we are and what we do beyond the bounds of media. You may be reading this and thinking back to the many changes that took place within your own organizations throughout 2014. Change is vital—evolve or risk irrelevance. What hasn’t changed are the fundamentals of why we at F+W exist as an organization: to serve our vertical markets with the information and inspiration and exclusive products and services they seek. To serve our valued customers like you, our Digital World community. And how to better serve our shared consumers is why we’re gathered here now. It’s all our jobs to take responsibility for the consumer experience and guide that experience through experimentation and new ideas. Be it ecommerce, , video, online education, immersive reading and beyond. That’s why I’m so excited about this year’s program. From the New Yorker’s media writer, Ken Auletta, to Seth Godin, to Walter Isaacson, the Digital Book World Conference + Expo will challenge our status quo and bring us the latest insights and successes driving transformation. It’s our goal to help you leave here with the answers that spell digital publishing success. As always this event is made possible with the help of our Chairman and Conference Partner Mike Shatzkin, our Conference Co-Partner and Publishers Lunch founder Michael Cader, our community council members and advisors, and our esteemed speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors and my team at F+W. Thank you all. 2014 was another challenging year in parts of our industry and I know you feel the urgency to shift, evolve and find new ways to delight consumers. That’s who we think about at F+W every day. Please put the immediate on the backburner to focus on the important and spend our time together immersing yourself in the ideas, inspiration, and practical application you can bring back to your house. Best,

David Nussbaum, Chairman & CEO, F+W, A Content + eCommerce Company [email protected] fwcommunity.com • @dnussbaum
