  • Eritrea Researched and Compiled by the Refugee Documentation Centre of Ireland on 27 April 2010
Eritrea Researched and compiled by the Refugee Documentation Centre of Ireland on 27 April 2010 Are Catholics allowed to practice their religion freely in Eritrea? The Executive Summary (paragraph 1) of a report published by the Institute on Religion and Public Policy states: The status of Religious Freedom in Eritrea is atrocious. While a 1997 Constitution provides protections for freedom of religion and conscience, this Constitution has not been implemented. The country only recognizes 4 religious groups: the Eritrean Orthodox Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Eritrea, Islam, and the Roman Catholic Church. Members of unregistered religious groups face harassment, imprisonment, torture, and, in some cases, death at the hands of state authorities. Even members of registered religious groups face harassment, imprisonment, and interference from the government. The religious freedom situation in Eritrea is widely recognized by both governmental and non-government actors and agencies to be among the worst in the world. (Institute on Religion and Public Policy (2009) Religious Freedom in Eritrea, p.1) In a section titled Government Interference and Abuses of Registered Religious Groups (paragraph 8) this report states: The government interferes in the everyday workings of registered religious groups at the highest levels. The Eritrean Orthodox Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Eritrea, the Roman Catholic Church, and the Muslim community in Eritrea have all faced abuses and interference in their religious affairs at the hands of the government. The government required all four of the officially registered to submit reports on the sources of their funding as well as complete list of personnel and property.

  • Villa Tevere: Origen Y Primera Historia De La Sede Central Del Opus
Keywords: Opus Dei −Villa Tevere −Villa Sacchetti − Mario Gori Mazzoleni − Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer − Álvaro del Portillo − Fernando Delapuente − Jesús Álvarez Gazapo − Roma − Hungría − 1947-1960 The Origins and the Early History of Villa Tevere . The buildings of the central house of Opus Dei in Rome (1947-1960): The central house of Opus Dei, known as Villa Tevere and situated then in the northern area of Rome, was acquired in 1947 . Its previous owner, Mario Gori Mazzoleni, had con- structed the principal building on the site between 1928 and 1931, and had rented it out in 1936 to the Legation of Hungary to the Holy See . Full occupa- tion of the premises was to be possible only after two years of negotiations – by no means always easy – with officials of the new Hungarian State born out of World War II who sought to continue using it .

Missionary Society of St Columban 聖 高 隆 龐 傳 教 會 General Council September 13, 2017 Media Release Columbans urge end to persecution of Myanmar Muslims As the persecution of the Muslim minority in Rakhine State in Myanmar/Burma reaches a feverish pitch and forces thousands to flee to neighboring Bangladesh, Columban Superior General, Fr Kevin O’Neill, sends a message of solidarity saying, “We reject persecution of any community regardless of religion, race, or ethnic identity. We urge an end to the violence and violation of human rights of the Rohingya people and hope for their peaceful return to their homes in the Rakhine State of Myanmar/Burma.” Columban missionaries urge the government of Myanmar/Burma to immediately allow international humanitarian assistance to reach people in need and to seek long term peace and protection for the Muslim minorities of the Rakhine State and ethnic minorities throughout the country. We support the Caritas Internationalis campaign for refugees and migrants, “Share the Journey” which launches September 27, 2017, and hope that it will contribute to a global response of support for the Muslim minorities forced to flee Myanmar/Burma due to violence and persecution.
