Stanford Model United Nations Conference 2014 Cabinet of Park Chung-Hee Chair: Yegina Whang Co-Chair: Kendra Ritterhern Crisis Director: Hayley Ritterhern Chair Letter Dear Esteemed Delegates, My name is Yegina Whang, and it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Cabinet of Park Chung Hee Cabinet of SMUNC 2014! Born and raised in Los Angeles, I am currently a sophomore at Stanford University studying International Relations. This is my second year involved in SMUNC and MUN. When I’m not traveling with the Stanford MUN team or watching our football team dominate other Pac-12 schools, I serve on the board for the Society for Internationals Affairs at Stanford and work as a research intern for the International Strategy and Reconciliation Foundation. As members of the cabinet, you will all have a unique opportunity to determine how history could have radically changed. Distinct political moves and novel strategies could decide a very different fate for the South Korea we have come to know today. I hope that your understanding of this complex political situation will enable you to better understand the intricacies of East Asian politics and shed some light on the difficulty of building a true democracy overseas. As it turns out, the daughter of Park Chung Hee is the president of South Korea today, and there has not been a more relevant time to hold this committee. As a Korean-American and a student deeply interested in East Asian politics, I am absolutely thrilled to be your chair, and I cannot wait to hear your perspectives on the Korean political climate during this era.

We thank you heartily for not hesitating to support Saejowi's efforts to help North Korean re-settlers settle down successfully and continue working toward Unification. We publish Saejowi’s annual report in the hopes that more people would join us in our collective effort to create a unified Korea for the sake of our nation's unity and harmony. The main projects of 2014 were: Medical Assistance to North Korean re-settlers, Re-Settler Counselors Training, the awareness-raising program "I Love You Unification", Sexual Violence Counselors Training, Life Coaching Classes, North-South Coordinators Training, and the SNS initiative (The Unification Train), among others. Saejowi is not only supporting North Korean re-settlers' successful resettlement but also expanding our movement in order to make Unification a nationally supported "Happy Unification". People often worry that our lives after Unification will be more difficult than before Unification. A Unified Korea will indeed introduce new burdens, but it will also bring gains so substantial that they will offset the costs. We will be able to eliminate division administration costs, increase living space, expand the size of our economy, benefit from a unified wholesome cultural heritage, and improve our national image. Just as our nation has been continuing our five thousand years of history, life post-Unification may be difficult for a while, but a prepared Unification will certainly present us with a brighter future.

  • Professor John Ramseyer's Paper Is Nothing Less Than Infringement Of
To: Speaker of the United States House of Representatives President of Harvard University Editor-in-Chief of the International Review of Law and Economics Chairman of the National Assembly of Korea Statement: Professor John Ramseyer’s Paper is Nothing Less than Infringement of Human Rights under the Guise of Academic Freedom The issue of “comfort women” refers to the sex crime committed against women by the Japanese military during the Second World War and has already been recognized as wartime sexual violence, i.e., a sex crime, by international institutions such as a commission on human rights of the United Nations. It is a fact that the Japanese government and military were involved in the establishment of brothels and recruitment of comfort women, and the fact that the proprietors were selected secretly by the Japanese government has been proven from Japanese state documents. In August of 1993, Yohei Kono, Chief Cabinet Secretary in the Miyazawa cabinet, released the “Kono Statement” in which he acknowledged and apologized for the participation of Japanese military and authorities in the comfort women issue. Many women were forcibly conscripted by the Japanese military or deceived with job offers into becoming sex slaves of the Japanese military. These included not only Japanese women but also Korean, Chinese, Taiwanese, Southeast Asian, and even Dutch and German women. Nevertheless, Professor Ramseyer has written a paper falsely asserting that the Japanese government and military were not involved, and that the women and brothel owners had signed contracts for their mutual profit. In this paper, he has made the critically erroneous statement that the Japanese military’s comfort women were all voluntary prostitutes while giving an overly broad interpretation of the status of the prostitution industry in Japan.

Um die koreanische Wiedervereinigung - Die Sonnenscheinpolitik Kim Dae Jungs im Vergleich mit der Ostpolitik Willy Brandts Inaugural-Dissertation zur Erlangen der Doktorwürde der Philosophischen Fakultät Freiburg i. Br. vorgelegt von Geonwoo KIM aus Daegu/Südkorea SS 2007 1. Referent: Prof. Dr. Hans Fenske 2.
