Re-Construction and Definition of New Branches & Hierarchy of Sciences
Philosophy Study, July 2016, Vol. 6, No. 7, 377-416 doi: 10.17265/2159-5313/2016.07.001 D DAVID PUBLISHING New Perspective for the Philosophy of Science: Re-Construction and Definition of New Branches & Hierarchy of Sciences Refet Ramiz Near East University In this work, author evaluated past theories and perspectives behind the definitions of science and/or branches of science. Also some of the philosophers of science and their specific philosophical interests were expressed. Author considered some type of interactions between some disciplines to determine, to solve the philosophical/scientific problems and to define the possible solutions. The purposes of this article are: (i) to define new synthesis method, (ii) to define new perspective for the philosophy of science, (iii) to define relation between new philosophy perspective and philosophy of science, (iv) to define and organize name, number, relations, and correct structure between special science branches and philosophy of science, (v) to define necessary and sufficient number of branches for philosophy of science, (vi) to define and express the importance and place of new philosophy of science perspective in the new system, (vii) to extend the definition/limits of philosophy of science, (viii) to re-define meanings of some philosophical/scientific theories, (ix) to define systematic solution for the conflicts, problems, confusions about philosophy of science, sciences and branches of science, (x) to define new branches of science, (xi) to re-construct branches and hierarchy of science, (xii) to define new theories about science and branches of science. Author considered R-Synthesis as a method for the evaluation of the philosophy, philosophy of science, sciences and branches of science. -

Normative ethics From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Normative ethics is the new "it" branch of philosophical ethics concerned with Ethics classifying actions as right and wrong. Theoretical Normative ethics attempts to develop a set of rules governing human conduct, Meta-ethics or a set of norms for action. It deals with what people should believe to be right Normative · Descriptive Consequentialism and wrong, as distinct from descriptive ethics, which deals with what people do Deontology believe to be right and wrong. Hence, normative ethics is sometimes said to be Virtue ethics prescriptive, rather than descriptive. I take Taylor’s attempt to confront modern disenchantment by seeking a kind of re-enchantment as my guiding thread. Seeking re-enchantment means, first of all, defending an ‘engaged realist’ account of strong evaluation, i.e., qualitative distinctions of value that are seen as normative for our desires. Secondly, it means overcoming self-enclosure and achieving self-transcendence, which I argue should be understood in terms of transcending a ‘lower’ mode of selfhood for a ‘higher’ one in concern for ‘strong goods’. -

O’Malley, S.J. ABSTRACT Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43 B.C.), one of the most influential figures of the tempestuous late Roman Republic, has been interpreted across eras, cultures and disciplines to a voluminous degree. Most Ciceronian scholarship pertains to his role in public life, his great gift of rhetoric or his philosophical writings. These important pursuits may overlook another aspect of Cicero’s legacy, his great concern for the ethical and moral development of young people. This awareness reached full expression in the autumn of 44 B.C., in Cicero’s last major work, the De Officiis . The three-book essay was written to his son, Marcus Minor, at a time when the young man was in Greece under the pretense of studying philosophy. He was not his father’s equal as a thinker, lacked his father’s discipline and drifted between career ambitions. Cicero wished to be in Athens to oversee his son’s development but political events at Rome precluded that possibility. The De Officiis is important to study as an example of an honorable classical tradition, a written communication between father and son. -

INSA, New Delhi 40 (2013) 57-74 NUGGEHALLI RAGHUVEER MOUDGAL (1931-2011) Elected Fellow 1978 PERSONAL LIFE UGGEHALLI RAGHUVEER MOUDGAL was born on 4th March, 1931 in N Mysore, Karnataka in an upper middle class family. His father, N Narasimha Moudgal was the Chief Electrical Engineer, Mysore State Electricity Board and was largely responsible for the electrification of the state. His mother, Vaidehi Moudgal was a home maker and had tremendous influence on her children as she was artistic and very tidy and organized in her daily activities. He belonged to a community called 'Hebbar Iyengars' who speak at home a dialect which is a mixture of Kannada and Tamil. NR Moudgal was the youngest of five children-three boys and two girls. He adored his two elder brothers, N Shyam Prasad and N Ram Prasad. His two sisters, Prabha Devi Anantram and Harini Madhava Rao were close to him. The latter got him interested in reading classic English literature at an early age and he completed High School in 1946 in Seshadripuram High School, Bengaluru. He stayed with Prabha Devi's family at Bhavnagar and Kolhapur during his college days. This led to a B.Sc degree in 1950 from the University of Bombay. Moudgal, like other young people of his generation went to Madras to obtain his MSc by research in 1954, working on biochemistry of thyroid hormones. He married Prapulla nee Biligiri Rao on 20th May, 1957. His wife Prapulla passed away on December 10,2008. -

1 Adam Smith, the Last of the Former Virtue Ethicists Deirdre McCloskey* University of Illinois at Chicago Academia Vitae, Deventer, The Netherlands Smith was mainly an ethical philosopher. The recent literature from Knud Haakonssen (1981) through Charles Griswold (1999) and Samuel Fleischacker (2004, pp. xv, 48-54) says so, against the claim by the economists, believed for a long time, that he was mainly an economist in the modern, anti-ethical sense. Taking ethics out of Smith began immediately after his death, in the reactionary era of the French Revolution. Perhaps to assure the British authorities and British public opinion that political economy was not subversive, ethics was omitted. The Cold War inspired similar omissions, and it may be that during the American conquest of the field of economics a fear of radicalism supported the anti-ethical reading of Smith. *With thanks to Gloria Vivenza of the University of Verona for her comments on an earlier draft. Jeffrey Young, editor of the Elgar Companion to Adam Smith, forthcoming, was helpful and encouraging. 1 2 But another reason the economists’ claim was accepted for so long, against the textual and biographical evidence, is that Smith practiced what was considered for a long time after an obsolete sort of ethical philosophy, known as “virtue ethics.” Virtue ethics somewhat mysteriously disappeared from academic circles after the 6th and final and substantially revised edition of Smith’s own favorite of his two published books, The Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759, 1790). Since 1790 most ethical theory as practiced in departments of philosophy has derived instead from two other books published about the same time, one by Immanuel Kant (1785, for example Frankfurt 2004) and the other by Jeremy Bentham (1789, for example Singer 1993).
