Seniors Report

A big well done to all Senior crews that rowed at the NSW State Championships this last weekend in Penrith. There were some fantastic results and performances from our crews against the best crews NSW (and other states) have to offer. That will be the last time we row at Penrith before Head of the River on Sunday 8 March!

A special mention must go to the Senior Quad (Courtney Anderson, Gemma Priddle, Amy Shaw, Elena Petschack and Jessica Cooper) and coach Josie McCutcheon for improving their time by over 20 seconds in just one week. “Super sub” Eilish Parsons was again very generous in volunteering her time to step in to the 2nd VIII to allow them to race as an on Saturday due to team injury.

This weekend all Senior crews will be racing at the Gold Cup at Riverview. All crews will arrive and leave from the Leichhardt boatshed. The Gold Cup is a notoriously tricky course with its unique “big bend”. So, I encourage all rowers and coxswains to speak to their coaches about how best to approach the race and what tactics best suit your crew.

Weekend beginning Saturday 28 February, Senior crews will be training at Leichhardt from 6.00am until 12.00pm.

Good luck to all Pymble crews who are racing this weekend!

Senior IV Intermediate Report

The Intermediate squad had a very busy weekend. On Saturday half of our squad completed training sessions on water at our Leichhardt boatshed. The coaches focus here was to build up our endurance with plenty of km’s rowed as well as a strong focus on our technique. The other half of the squad was in Penrith at the NSW State Championships.

A special mention to Rachael Balcomb who finished 1st in the U16 and the 1st Quad (Meg Dwyer, Caitlin Stals, Jemima McCalman, Rachael Balcomb and Charlotte Fell) coached by Jeff Patterson and Tom Minifie who finished 2nd in the U17 Quad final with a 7:26.

Juniors Report

Our Junior squad is continuing to make gains on the water. Our 3rd to 6th crews had a weekend off racing allowing them to train on our home stretch of water at LRC and travel across to Riverview to get some experience on the notoriously difficult Gold Cup course. The coxswains were diligent in their preparation and paid attention to the details of how to negotiate the course. We are looking forward to seeing you out there this weekend ladies!

Last weekend our 1st and 2nd crews contended a hot field in the U16 4x+ at the NSW State Championships. Our 2nd Quad had to contend with some crew changes, however the girls who rowed, did so with both skill and composure. This crew consisted of Allyson Campbell, Annabel Sherrard, Isabel Singarayar, Tahire Wjetilaka and Samantha Nugent. The girls put in a gallant effort against 1st crews from other schools, narrowly missing out on the final.

Our first crew, consisting of Daisy Spence, Caitlin Shewell, India Thompson, Isabel Walker and Olivia Hill made it through to the final, by holding off attacks from other crews and maintaining composure with a fantastic row in the heat. They just missed out on a medal in the final, placing 4th. Thank you to the coaches and families who joined us at Penrith last Sunday. It was a great experience for both crews!

I would like to take this opportunity to make a special mention of Sally Potter 2nd Quad. Unfortunately, Sally suffered an injury to her arm meaning she is currently unable to row. Whilst extremely disappointing for Sally at this stage of the season, she has stepped up to cox one of our crews. A great show of Pymble spirit from Sally. We hope your arm is on the mend!

Year 9 parents must be having a quiet week as all Year 9’s are away at school camp. For this reason there is no training this week and we will hit the ground running on the weekend.

The Junior crews are all racing between 8.00am and 9.12am. All crews will boat from LRC and return to LRC after the race. This will give the rowers some good training miles as well as racing experience this weekend. Post-race, the Juniors are encouraged to make their way to St Ignatius College, Riverview to watch some racing and support their fellow team mates.

I will be sending through a crew list to Junior Rowers for specific details are racing on Saturday.

Learn To Row Report

Congratulations to all squad members for such a fantastic week of . We had the opportunity to train on the water for two sessions on Sunday and take advantage of some really flat water. Our teams were adjusted to try and group girls of similar on-water styles and technique to allow each boat to get the most out of their training sessions.

I would like to welcome new coach, Gareth Deacon to our squad! He spoke so highly of you all after the Sunday session. Please continue to make him feel welcome!

This weekend, we will be at the Leichhardt Boatshed from 7.00am to11.00am as usual. Please note: there will be a regatta on in the bay and lots of people around the boatshed. The coaches and I have arranged a variety of sessions that we will complete during the day, with our focus continuing to be on developing you all as well rounded rowers of the future! If you are intending to park at the boatshed, be aware that it is likely to be busy (allow extra time)

I look forward to seeing you all again at training this week as all crews prepare for Head of the River.

PRSG NEWS

With rowers scattered everywhere this weekend, some great results for the Seniors and some Intermediates at SIRC were achieved as well as some good sessions at Leichhardt.

As all Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors will be taking part in the Gold Cup this weekend the RSG has decided to supply “Takeaway” with each girl being supplied with a bag of healthy goodies.

Intermediates are on duty this weekend so once you drop off your daughter it would be great if you could come and help pack some bags. Please note however the girls should bring their own water and gatorade.

For any parents interested in watching the Gold Cup we found a good vantage point at Riverview College and parking is available – please click on the link for directions. It is a great day. https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/Saint+Ignatius'+College,Riverview

A special thank you this week to Roland Everingham who looked after the catering for the Senior girls last weekend and also again to Murray Newman for supplying an enormous amount of bacon to the shed.

The much anticipated HOPE (Have an Oarsome Pymble Experience) is about to get underway. This is an “Oarsome" experience for Pymble parents, friends and the wider community of Pymble to get in a boat, learn how to do it and then finish it off at Sydney International Rowing Centre (SIRC) in Penrith with a Regatta and a sumptuous lunch. There will be instructions on how to register coming out soon.

Please note: The next PRSG meeting is now scheduled and all are welcome. Please come and join us.
