In vineyards, the grape productivity of Žilavka is normal while that of Blatina is extremely low. The objective of this work was to study the pollen morphology of V. vinifera cvs. Žilavka and Blatina using scanning electron microscopy. The pollen grain of Žilavka showed three furrows, but acolporated (without furrows or pores) pollen grains were observed in Blatina. Pollen germination in Žilavka was satisfactory, whereas Blatina pollen lacked the capacity to germinate. The present research is a contribution to amore detailed analysis of major grapevine cultivars in the Balkans. Key words: indigenous cultivars, scanning microscopy, pollen. INTRODUCTION in shape, without furrows and germination pores. In the wild grapevine V. vinifera subsp. • Vinski Kultivari Vinove Loze U Hercegovini
glasnik zaštite bilja 61 godina Rotim, N.1, M. Gašpar1,I.

The best known species in this area are Žilavka (white grape and wine) and Blatina (black grapes and wine) and their supporting varieties. The leading cultivation of grapes in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton are white grape varieties, primarily Žilavka and Smederevka. From a total of 977,8 hectares of vineyards in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton under varieties of white grapes is 561.3 ha or 57.4%. Most of the vineyards under is under žilavka, (485,3 ha) and smederevka (76 ha). The varieties of red grapes are under-represented, at 374 hectares, which in relative terms in the total area of vineyards in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton is 38.2%. Among the red wine grape mostly grown is blatina (316 ha) and vranac (58 ha). These types of wine grapes are the basis for the production of wine, wine cellars and other supporting infrastructure, and ultimately predisposition to the formation of Wine Route of Herzegovina, the main carrier of the development of wine tourism in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton. Bosnia-Herzegovina (B-H) remains one of the most underdeveloped countries on the European Continent [1] yet it holds great potential as a tourist destination for outdoor adventurers, history enthusiasts, and now, wine connoisseurs. The southern part of this merged nation has always been an area of wine production, but the industry has been slow to develop into a net exporter of its wines. The author and many of the industry’s supporters believe that it would be more lucrative to follow in the footsteps of its western neighbor, Croatia, and develop the wine industry through wine tourism. Utilizing historical data, interviews, analysis of governmental statistics, review of the literature and finally a SWOT analysis, this paper suggests changes and expenditures required for Bosnia- Herzegovina to become a successful wine tourism destination. It is hoped that the suggestions made herein will direct further discussions if not actions in that direction. 1 Introduction: The History of Wine Making in Bosnia-Herzegovina Bosnia-Herzegovina’s history of wine making has flourished and waned over the centuries.

  • Wine Product Brief Bosnia and Herzegovina
THIS REPORT CONTAINS ASSESSMENTS OF COMMODITY AND TRADE ISSUES MADE BY USDA STAFF AND NOT NECESSARILY STATEMENTS OF OFFICIAL U.S. GOVERNMENT POLICY Voluntary - Public Date: 4/5/2017 GAIN Report Number: BK1704 Bosnia and Herzegovina Post: Sarajevo Wine Product Brief Report Categories: Product Brief Wine Approved By: Fred Giles Prepared By: Sanela Stanojcic Report Highlights: Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) imports around one third of the wine consumed domestically (2016 import value $15.2 million), mostly from its neighbors Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia. The local wine production of nearly 20,000 hectoliters (hl) is generally located in the Herzegovina region. Per capita consumption of wine is estimated at seven liters (l), which is low when compared to other European countries (30 – 50 l), but has been constantly growing. Low-priced wines are consumed more due to low disposable income. Despite the struggling economy and weak consumer purchasing power, BiH consumers are increasingly shifting from beer to wine. Both importers and consumers have shown strong interest for U.S. wines. General Information: SECTION I. MARKET OVERVIEW Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) wine production is estimated at 20 million liters (l), and consumption at 25.5 million liters. Vineyard area has been constantly growing and in 2015 was estimated at 3,800 hectares (ha) with a total yield of approximately 34,000 tons (t). Grapes and wine are mostly produced in the southern part of the country, in the Herzegovina region, an area with favorable climate and a long history of wine production. The most famous local varieties/wines are Zilavka (a white wine) and Blatina (a red wine), which are ideal for growing in the climatic and geographic conditions in BiH.
