1 Your guide to Saint Central Martins Welcome to Central Saint Martins. You are joining a unique community of artists, designers and performers. CSM offers one of the most diverse and comprehensive ranges of creative education degrees in the country, while University of the Arts London offers the largest grouping of specialist arts, design and communication programmes in Europe.

Our aim is to make CSM a key cultural institution on the national and international stage, and in doing so, enhance your experience of being a student here. Last year we hosted over 600 public facing events; my advice is to read our weekly events newsletter and look out for all the events going on outside your curriculum. These are advertised on our website, on posters and screens around the college and on our social media channels – they are an important part of your overall experience as a student here, and provide an Welcome to unparalleled cultural context for the rest of your studies. The campus at King’s Cross encourages open debate and communication. We work closely with the students’ union to develop a sense of community within the building, and I encourage you to get involved with these wider activities, through course Central committees and other events. I hope you have a great year. But, if things are going wrong with your course, let us know sooner rather than later. If you have suggestions as to how the college could get better, please tell us. If things are going well, tell us. It is only by working together that we can keep Saint Martins developing CSM as one of the best places in the world to study art, design and performance. Although CSM and UAL are rightly proud of their famous graduates, I always say that we are only as good as our last show. It's the work of our current students that shows where we are heading as a leading creative institution. This means you! I look forward to seeing what you produce as part of the next generation of artists, designers and performers.

ID cards You will receive a student ID card and lanyard when you enrol. CSM operates a strict no pass no entry policy to ensure security across all sites, so please remember to bring your ID card with you every day, especially as you’ll also need it for printing (find out how to do this further on in the guide).

Q: What should I do if I lose my ID card?

If you lose your card you should check with the site reception first in case it’s been handed in. If not, you’ll need to buy a replacement online at estore.arts.ac.uk. Select ‘Product Catalogue’, then ‘Central Saint Martins’ and then ‘ID card replacement’. The receipt should then be presented at the Student Centre at King’s Cross where they will print you a new card. Once printed, you’ll need to wait about ten minutes before you can use your new card.

If your ID card is replaced, your locker will not automatically transfer to your new card. Please go to the Student Centre and ask a member of staff to open the locker for you, so that you can re-lock your locker with your new card.

Q: What should I do if my card gets stolen or damaged?

If your ID card is stolen you’ll need to present a Police Crime Number to the Student Centre at King’s Cross to receive a new card. If your ID card is damaged you can get a free replacement as long as you can bring your card to the Student Centre to prove that it is damaged.

Q: Can I share my ID card with another student?

No. ID cards are issued to individual students and must not be shared. Anyone found to be using another student’s ID card will have it confiscated and both involved could face disciplinary action.

Note • If you’ve lost your card you can show your receipt for a replacement to get into the college while you wait for a new one. • You can only own one ID card at a time. If you lose your ID card, the old one will be deactivated as soon as a replacement is activated.
