Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R Team Report – IMSA Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio Page Two

Notes of Interest:

 Round four of the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship takes the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R driving duo of Jordan Taylor and Renger van der Zande to the scenic Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington for Sunday’s IMSA Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio. It’s the team’s first visit to the facility since 2013, and the first for the WeatherTech series  It will be the second sprint race together for Taylor, who’s in his sixth year as full-time co-driver with the team, and van der Zande, who joined the team this past offseason when Ricky Taylor left after a four-year run co-driving with his younger brother to join the new, two-car Team Penske Prototype-class effort.  When the team last visited Mid-Ohio, in the sixth round of the 2013 Grand-Am Rolex Sport Car Series season that ended with Taylor and then full-time co-driver Max “The Ax” Angelelli winning the championship, Taylor qualified on the pole and he and Angelelli finished sixth.  In seven visits to Mid-Ohio dating back to the team’s formation in 2007, it has an average finish of just 8.14 without a podium result.  Team owner Wayne Taylor and Angelelli co-drove to a podium finish of third at Mid-Ohio during their 2005 Grand-Am champion season.  Jordan Taylor had four Grand-Am starts at Mid-Ohio prior to his 2013 outing with the No. 10 team and Angelelli. In 2010, he qualified on the GT- class pole in the No. 30 Racer’s Edge Motorsports entry and finished third with co-driver Jade Buford. He co-drove the No. 88 Autohaus Motorsports GT-class entry to finishes of eight and ninth, respectively, in 2011 and 2012.  Sunday’s race marks the first career start at Mid-Ohio for van der Zande.  The team arrives at Mid-Ohio this weekend fourth in the WeatherTech Championship – 13 points out of the lead – after its third-place finish April 14 in the Bubba Burger Sport Car Grand Prix on the Street Course. It was the team’s second consecutive podium finish after a devastating Rolex 24 At Daytona opener that netted a 15th-place result.  Van der Zande is a 32-year-old from Amsterdam and co-drove with Belgian sportscar ace Marc Goossens last season in the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Racing Prototype-class entry, scoring a signature win thanks to his dramatic pass for the lead during the closing moments of September’s penultimate round at Laguna Seca, as well as a solid podium finish at the Rolex 24. Van der Zande has been a recent fixture on the IMSA WeatherTech circuit, scoring nine race wins, 18 podium finishes and the 2016 championship for the LMPC-class Starworks Motorsport team during a three-year run that begin in 2014. Prior to his arrival on the North American scene in 2013, he had driven in virtually every major racing series worldwide, including Formula Renault, A1GP, GP2, German Touring Car, World Endurance Championship, Porsche SuperCup, and the Blancpain Endurance Series. His professional career began to take shape when he won the 2005 Formula Renault 2.0 championship in his native country.  At this year’s season-opening Rolex 24, van der Zande qualified the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R on the pole in his maiden qualifying voyage with his new team. He led the opening 18 laps of the race and he and Taylor and Hunter-Reay stayed comfortably with the leaders over the first third of the race. But various issues ultimately cost several laps while making repairs and unscheduled pit stops and the team retired during the 17th hour and left Daytona credited with 15th place.
