We work closely with multi-disciplinary teams other agencies routinely to provide the best possible nutritional care for our patients. Placement A The learning experience We have been just this year started offering A PAL placements in Angus. So far the feedback from the students has been very positive. The Peer Assisted Learning Programme has been designed to allow students to work together on their A placement workbooks and complete the placement based tasks. The placement is designed to give students a range of learning activities in different settings including spending time with different members of the MDT, nursing staff, catering staff and shadowing dietitians in their various clinical settings. Covering group work, ward work, clinic work and domicillary visits. Placement B The learning experience We currently offer B Placements to students and have been doing this using the PAL model since 2009. This has enabled us to double the number of students we are able train in a year. The students who have gone through the PAL programme have all evaluated it very well. The Peer Assisted Learning Programme has been designed to allow students to work together on clinical and non-clinical tasks, and learn from each other. Peers can help each other learn and learning is more effective when there is collaboration between students. PAL is a natural way of learning/completing tasks if the same task is set for more than one person. The placement is designed to give students a range of learning activities in different settings. Students will participate in out-patient clinics, in-patient ward work and domiciliary visits for a variety of clinical specialities, and group education sessions for patient groups throughout Angus. During the placement, students will also have the opportunity to complete a project and case study, both of which will be presented to the department. Debrief sessions are held at the beginning of each week to review the previous week, plan for the week ahead, review progress and evidence collection. Student Led Reflection sessions are held at the end of each week where students discuss and reflect on one learning experience from their week. Formal assessments are undertaken mid way through the placement and again at week 12.
