[00515-01.01] MESSAGGIO DEL SANTO PADRE AL PRESIDENTE DELLA PONTIFICIA COMMISSIONE BIBLICA IN OCCASIONE DELL’ASSEMBLEA PLENARIA ANNUALE Pubblichiamo di seguito il Messaggio che il Santo Padre Benedetto XVI ha inviato al Presidente della Pontificia Commissione Biblica, l’Em.mo Card. William Levada, in occasione dell’annuale Assemblea Plenaria che si è svolta presso la Domus Sanctae Marthae (Città del Vaticano) dal 16 al 20 aprile: ● MESSAGGIO DEL SANTO PADRE Al Venerato Fratello Bollettino N. 0222 - 20.04.2012 3 Cardinale William Levada Presidente della Pontificia Commissione Biblica Mi è grato inviare a Lei, Venerato Fratello, al Cardinale Prosper Grech, O.S.A., al Segretario e a tutti i Membri della Pontificia Commissione Biblica il mio cordiale saluto in occasione dell’annuale Assemblea Plenaria che si è tenuta per trattare l’importante tema «Ispirazione e Verità della Bibbia». Come sappiamo tale tematica è fondamentale per una corretta ermeneutica del messaggio biblico. Proprio l’ispirazione come azione di Dio fa sì che nelle parole umane si esprima la Parola di Dio. Di conseguenza, il tema dell’ispirazione è decisivo per l’adeguato accostamento alle Sacre Scritture. Infatti, un’interpretazione dei sacri testi che trascura o dimentica la loro ispirazione non tiene conto della loro più importante e preziosa caratteristica, ossia della loro provenienza da Dio. Nella mia Esortazione apostolica postsinodale Verbum Domini, ho ricordato inoltre che «i Padri sinodali hanno messo in evidenza come al tema dell’ispirazione sia connesso anche il tema della verità delle Scritture. Per questo, un approfondimento della dinamica dell’ispirazione porterà indubbiamente anche ad una maggior comprensione della verità contenuta nei libri sacri» (n. 19). Per il carisma dell’ispirazione i libri della Sacra Scrittura hanno una forza di appello diretto e concreto. Ma la Parola di Dio non resta confinata nello scritto. Se, infatti, l’atto della Rivelazione si è concluso con la morte dell’ultimo Apostolo, la Parola rivelata ha continuato ad essere annunciata e interpretata dalla viva Tradizione della Chiesa. Per questa ragione la Parola di Dio fissata nei testi sacri non è un deposito inerte all’interno della Chiesa ma diventa regola suprema della sua fede e potenza di vita. La Tradizione che trae origine dagli Apostoli progredisce con l’assistenza dello Spirito Santo e cresce con la riflessione e lo studio dei credenti, con l’esperienza personale di vita spirituale e la predicazione dei Vescovi (cfr Dei Verbum, 8. 21). Nello studiare il tema «Ispirazione e Verità della Bibbia», la Pontificia Commissione Biblica è chiamata ad offrire il suo specifico e qualificato contributo a questo necessario approfondimento. È infatti essenziale e fondamentale per la vita e la missione della Chiesa che i testi sacri vengano interpretati secondo la loro natura: l’Ispirazione e la Verità sono caratteristiche costitutive di questa natura. Perciò il vostro impegno avrà una vera utilità per la vita e la missione della Chiesa. Con l’augurio a ciascuno di voi di un fruttuoso proseguimento dei vostri lavori, vorrei infine esprimere il mio vivo apprezzamento per l’attività svolta dalla Commissione Biblica, impegnata a promuovere la conoscenza, lo studio e l’accoglienza della Parola di Dio nel mondo. Con tali sentimenti affido ciascuno di voi alla materna protezione della Vergine Maria, che con tutta la Chiesa invochiamo quale Sedes Sapientiae, e di cuore imparto a Lei, Venerato Fratello, e a tutti i Membri della Pontificia Commissione Biblica una speciale Benedizione Apostolica. He studied and received a master's degree in chemistry at the University of Buenos Aires, but later decided to become a Jesuit priest and studied at the Jesuit seminary of Villa Devoto. He studied liberal arts in Santiago, Chile, and in 1960 earned a degree in philosophy from the Catholic University of Buenos Aires. Between 1964 and 1965 he was a teacher of literature and psychology at Inmaculada High School in the province of Santa Fe, and in 1966 he taught the same courses at the prestigious Colegio del Salvador in Buenos Aires. In 1967, he returned to his theological studies and was ordained a priest on December 13, 1969. After his perpetual profession as a Jesuit in 1973, he became master of novices at the Seminary of Villa Barilari in San Miguel. Later that same year, he was elected superior of the Jesuit province of Argentina and Uruguay. In 1980, he returned to San Miguel as a teacher at the Jesuit school, a job rarely taken by a former provincial superior.

Stika. More than a thousand people will be in attendance for this historic celebration and Rite of Dedication, including leaders of the Catholic Church representing the Vatican, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and more than a dozen archdioceses, dioceses, and Catholic communities as well as faithful from the Diocese of Knoxville’s 51 parishes and Catholic missions. The Mass marks the official opening of the Diocese of Knoxville’s first dedicated cathedral, located at 711 S. Northshore Drive in Knoxville. It will replace the current Sacred Heart Cathedral, built in 1955 and opened in 1956. Sacred Heart served as a parish church from Jan. 1, 1956, until Pope St. John Paul II established the Diocese of Knoxville in 1988 and then elevated Sacred Heart to a cathedral. The old cathedral building will be converted into a parish fellowship hall. Joining Bishop Stika for the Dedication Mass will be Cardinal Justin Rigali, Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz, Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, Cardinal William Levada, and Cardinal Timothy Dolan.
