GENESIS V A Report to Concerned Individuals George Baldocchi: 1919–2007 Vol. 45, No. 2 Summer 2008 A Memorial To SI’s Largest Single Benefactor Rev. Robert T. Walsh, S.J. President By Stephen Lovette ’63 Mr. Stephen E. Lovette Vice President ON the afternoon of Sept. 29, George Baldocchi died peacefully in his Mr. Charles W. Dullea modest apartment at the Sequoias in San Francisco. In a subsequent meeting with his Principal executor, longtime friend and business confidant, Merri Pontar Rawski of Pontar Real Estate, SI learned that it would receive more than $7 million from George’s Rev. Thomas H. O’Neill, S.J. Superior estate, making George the single largest benefactor in SI’s 153-year history. George was born in 1919, the son of George and Erma Baldocchi, early Mr. Joseph A. Vollert settlers in San Francisco’s Sunset District.
