Lacrosse has rapidly spread across metro Atlanta since that time, growing from the initial primary set- tings of Cobb County, north Fulton County and a handful of private schools to the current totals of approxi- mately 90 boys and girls teams. The state championships first appeared in the spring of 2005, with the designation being an Open event for teams in all classifications. Lovett dominated the boy’s results in the early going, capturing Open titles at the conclusions of the 2005, 2008 and 2009 campaigns. Lassiter and Westminster, meanwhile, prevented a total domination by Lovett by claiming state victo- ries in 2006 and 2007 respectively. North Fulton County, on the other hand, grabbed the spotlight on the girls side, as Milton rolled to four consecutive Open Division titles in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 and Chattachoochee added a fifth straight state crown for the area in the 2009 season. Georgia High School Association then broke up the schools into two classifications for the first time starting with the 2010 campaign, with the AAAAA schools having their own designation and the AAAA, AAA, AA and A teams combining into the other division of A -AAAA. Milton proceeded to secure two of the first three AAAAA boy’s championships, prevailing at the con- clusion of the 2010 and 2012 seasons. Walton broke through for the second state crown from Cobb County with a victorious effort in between Milton’s triumphs at the end of the 2011 campaign. Centennial then brought home North Fulton’s first state title in 2013, this one coming in the AAAAAA classification. Roswell added another crown in this class for North Fulton in 2014, and the Hornets repeated as champions in 2015. Westminster jumped on the top of the medal stand for the second time while taking home the first A - AAAA boys title in 2010 and later added state triumphs in A -AAAAA in 2013 and 2015. Lambert of Forsyth County made its presence felt with state championship romps through the A - AAAA field in 2011 and 2012. Northview took A -AAAAA honors in 2014. The girl’s competition in the divisional era has consisted of the same two programs sitting at the top in all three years. Milton swept to state victories on the AAAAA level in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and then in AAAAAA in 2013, 2014 and 2015, giving the Lady Eagles 10 overall crowns in the 11 years of the event. Westminster has proven to be just as impressive in the A -AAAA field, rolling to state victories in 2010, 2011 and 2012. The Lady Wildcats added a fourth straight state title in the A -AAAAA bracket in 2013. Kell tasted state gold for the first time in A -AAAAA in 2014 and 2015. DeKalb County entered GHSA state sanctioned lacrosse competition for the first time during the 2012 season, as Druid Hills, Dunwoody, Martin Luther King Jr. and Southwest DeKalb fielded the initial four teams. Druid Hills, Dunwoody, Martin Luther King Jr. and Southwest DeKalb entered boy’s varsity action for 2013, while Dunwoody, Martin Luther King Jr. and Southwest DeKalb fielded girl’s varsity squads. Druid Hills also put together boys and girls junior varsity teams in 2013, and Dunwoody fielded a jun- ior varsity squad for girls. Lakeside fielded a boys varsity team for the first time in 2015, and the Lady Vikings entered the com- petition in 2016. Chamblee joined the crowd with a girl’s varsity team in 2016 and the Bulldog boys formed a varsity program in 2018. 3 CHAMBLEE HIGH SCHOOL 3668 Chamblee -Dunwoody Road Principal - Gail Barnes Chamblee, GA 30341 Nickname - Bulldogs (678) 676 -6902 School Colors - Blue & Gold BOYS COACH - Robert Swank GIRLS COACH - Theresa Abernathy AREA - 1-AAAAA -A AREA - 1-AAAAA -A FINAL 2020 RECORD - (3 -4) FINAL 2020 RECORD - (0 -4) BOYS ROSTER GIRLS ROSTER NO NAME POS HT WT YR NO NAME POS HT WT YR 00 Joe Gainer D 6'1" 180 JR 2 Shelby Rutherford* ATT 5'6" 115 JR 1 Matthew Birchall ATT 5'7" 130 SO 3 Bijou Nsele ATT 5'5" 125 JR 4 Dempsey Allers

Stephen Green EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS James Jackson Basketball Coordinator Dr. Tekshia Ward -Smith ATHLETIC SPECIALIST Chris Chilton ATHLETIC SPECIALIST Mark Brock 2 DEKALB COUNTY’S LONG HISTORY OF STATE CHAMPIONS DeKalb County’s proud basketball history began and continues with a championship pedigree. The Clarkston boys brought home the first state trophy in 1940, and 41 other teams have since realized the big prize in the ensuing 76 years. From legendary coach Elmer Morrow ’s dominating boys teams at Druid Hills in the 1950s to the current boys powerhouses at Miller Grove and Columbia, the list of win- ners is an impressive one. Druid Hills knocked off Avondale (50 -44), Tifton (47 -44) and Jeff Davis (55 -42) in state finals in 1953, 1954 and 1957 respectively. Stone Mountain and Clarkston on the boys side, and Druid Hills and Stone Mountain among the girls served as the other early local powers. E.L. Rainey , another of DeKalb County’s original hoop coaching giants, led Stone Mountain to the Class B crown in 1957. Tom Church guided Clarkston to its second boys state championship with a victo- rious effort in the class B final in 1964. The girls matched the boys for the first time at Druid Hill in 1960, with Virginia Canady coaching that squad to the Class AAA title.

In order to accomplish this goal, the district must submit a petition to the Georgia Department of Education seeking charter system status, and your input in this petition is sought. The district is seeking your thoughts on autonomy and flexibility at your school and how that autonomy and flexibility can lead to innovations in how students are taught and how the school is governed. Five community engagement sessions have been scheduled, and anyone seeking the opportunity to provide input is invited to attend, including parents, teachers, and other community members. You are also encouraged to review information from the Georgia Department of Education concerning charter systems, including some of the petitions from other school systems around the state that are already operating as a charter district. That information can be found at the following web address: http://www.gadoe.org/External- Affairs-and-Policy/Charter-Schools/Pages/default.aspx.
