Introduction
It has been almost 2000 years since the Apostle Paul wrote the letters to the Corinthian church found in our New Testament. Central to the working of the Holy Spirit in the New Testament churches was the Breaking of Bread or Communion services. The believers gathered around the Lord’s table and came prepared to share what the Holy Spirit was teaching, or speaking through their individual giftings.
Each believer had a part to play, a gift to bring. This was, for the most part an open meeting with very few pre-set parameters. Some would share a song or speak about what it meant to them. Some would share a passage of Scripture and briefly share how it applied to Christ. Others would have a word of testimony or a word of prophecy. Still others would have a message in tongues with and accompanying interpretation.
We find in, 1 Corinthians 14:1 – 40, the blueprint of these gatherings. In this passage there are several principles given by the Apostle Paul to give us some boundaries for our Breaking of Bread services at Barrie Christian Fellowship. 1) Everything is to be done in a decent and orderly way. 2) In church meetings, we must be able to understand what is being taught or spoken about through words of prophecy, revelation, knowledge or instruction 3) Singing must be understood by those hearing it, so that all present can be edified. 4) All must be done for the strengthening of the church. 5) At the most there should be two or three messages in tongues with interpretation. If there is no interpreter, the speaking in tongues should be kept quiet or spoken to themselves.
6) Only two or three prophets are given an opportunity to prophesy and this must be judged or weighed by the pastors/elders of the local church as to whether it is appropriate to the service. 7) There is to be no disorder in the service, so no arguing, disputing or disrupting is permitted during the service. 8) The Breaking of Bread is a service to celebrate the victory of Jesus over sin, death and the grave. Therefore, we are to rejoice and remember the wonderful grace of God in our lives and give glory to Him.
It is our hope as pastors/elders, as we move forward and grow in the Lord, these Breaking of Bread services will be a great opportunity to celebrate together what Jesus has done and is doing at our midst.

Above All
Above all powers, above all kings Above all nature and all created things Above all wisdom and all the ways of man You were here before the world began
Above all kingdoms, above all thrones Above all wonders the world has ever known Above all wealth and treasures of the earth There’s no way to measure what You’re worth
Crucified, laid behind the stone You lived to die, rejected and alone Like a rose trampled on the ground You took the fall and thought of me Above all
Alas and Did My Saviour Bleed
Alas and did my Saviour bleed and did my Sov’reign die Would He devote that sacred head for sinners such as I
At the cross, at the cross Where I first saw the light And the burden of my heart rolled away It was there by faith I received my sight And now I am happy all the day
Was it for crimes that I have done, He groaned upon the tree Amazing pity, grace unknown and love beyond degree
Well might the sun in darkness hide and shut His glories in When Christ the mighty Maker died for man, the creature’s, sin
But drops of grief can ne’er repay the debt of love I owe Here Lord I give myself away ‘tis all that I can do
All Heaven Declares
All heaven declares The glory of the risen Lord Who can compare with The beauty of the Lord
Forever He will be The Lamb upon the throne I gladly bow the knee And worship Him alone
I will proclaim The glory of the risen Lord Who once was slain To reconcile man to God
Forever You will be The Lamb upon the throne I gladly bow the knee And worship You alone
Amazing Grace
Amazing grace how sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me I once was lost but now am found Was blind but now I see
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear And grace my fears relieved How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed
Through many dangers toils and snares I have already come ‘Tis grace has brought me safe thus far And grace will lead me home
When we’ve been there ten thousand years Bright shining as the sun We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise Than when we’ve first begun
Amazing Love
I’m forgiven Because You were forsaken I’m accepted You were condemned I’m alive and well Your Spirit is within me Because You died and rose again
Amazing love, how can it be That You my King, would die for me Amazing love, I know it’s true It’s my joy to honour You In all I do, I honour You
You are my King You are my king Jesus, You are my King Jesus, You are my King
And Can It Be
And can it be that I should gain an interest in the Saviour’s blood Died He for me who caused His pain for me who Him to death pursued Amazing love how can it be that thou my God shouldst die for me Amazing love how can it be that Thou my God shouldst die for me
He left His Father’s throne above so free so infinite His grace Emptied Himself of all but love and bled for Adam’s helpless race ‘Tis mercy all immense and free for O my God it found out me ‘Tis mercy all immense and free for O my God it found out me
Long my imprisoned spirit lay fast bound in sin and nature’s night Thine eye diffused a quickening ray I woke the dungeon flamed with light My chains fell off my heart was free I rose, went forth and followed Thee My chains fell off my heart was free I rose, went forth and followed Thee
No condemnation now I dread, Jesus and all in Him is mine Alive in Him my living Head and clothed in righteousness divine Bold, I approach th’eternal throne and claim the crown through Christ my own Bold, I approach th’eternal throne and claim the crown through Christ my own

At the cross, at the cross I surrender my life I’m in awe of You, I’m in awe of You Where Your love ran red and my sin washed white I owe all to You, I owe all to You Jesus
There’s a place where sin and shame are powerless Where my heart has peace with God and forgiveness Where all the love I’ve ever found Comes like a flood comes flowing down
Here my hope is found, here on holy ground Here I bow down, here I bow down Here arms open wide, here You saved my life Here I bow down, here I bow (down)

There in the ground His body lay, light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day, up from the grave He rose again And as He stands in victory, sin’s curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ
No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the power of Christ in me From life’s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny No power of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from His hand ‘Til He returns of calls me home, here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

Jesus Messiah, Lord of all, the Lord of all, the Lord of all
Jesus Paid It All
I hear the Saviour say, thy strength indeed is small Child of weakness watch and pray, find in Me thine all in all
Jesus paid it all All to Him I owe Sin had left a crimson stain He washed it white as snow
Lord now indeed I find, Thy power and Thine alone Can change the leper’s spots and melt the heart of stone
For nothing good have I, whereby Thy grace to claim I’ll wash my garments white in the blood of Calvary’s Lamb
And when before the throne, I stand in Him complete Jesus died my soul to save, my lips shall still repeat
Jesus, We Celebrate Your Victory
Jesus, we celebrate Your victory Jesus, we revel in Your love Jesus, we rejoice You’ve set us free Jesus, Your death has brought us life
It was for freedom that Christ has set us free No longer to be subject to a yoke of slavery So, we’re rejoicing in God’s victory Our hearts responding to His love

And I will praise You Lord And I will sing of Love come down And as You show Your face We’ll see Your glory here
My Redeemer Lives
I know He rescued my soul His blood has covered my sin I believe, I believe My shame He’s taken away My pain is healed in His name I believe, I believe
I’ll raise a banner ‘Cause my Lord has conquered the grave
My Redeemer lives My Redeemer lives My Redeemer lives My Redeemer lives
You lift my burdens I’ll rise with You I’m dancing on this mountaintop To see Your kingdom come
My Saviour’s Love
I stand amazed in the presence Of Jesus the Nazarene And wonder how He could love me A sinner condemned unclean
(Singin’) (Ev’rybody singin’) How marvellous, how wonderful And my song shall ever be How marvelous, how wonderful Is my Saviour’s love for me
He took my sins and my sorrows He made them His very own (And) He bore the burden to Calvary And suffered and died alone
And with the ransomed in glory His face I at last shall see It will be my joy through the ages To sing of His love for me
Near the Cross
Jesus keep me near the cross, there a precious fountain Free to all a healing stream flows from Calv’ry’s mountain
In the cross, in the cross Be my glory ever ‘Til my raptured soul shall find Rest beyond the river
Near the cross, a trembling soul, love and mercy found me There the Bright and Morning Star sheds its beams around me
Near the cross, O Lamb of God bring its scenes before me Help me walk from day to day with its shadows o’er me
Near the cross I’ll watch and wait, hoping, trusting ever ‘Til I reach the golden strand just beyond the river
Nothing But the Blood
What can wash away my sin Nothing but the blood of Jesus What can make me whole again Nothing but the blood of Jesus
O precious is the flow, that makes me white as snow No other fount I know, nothing but the blood of Jesus
For my pardon this I see Nothing but the blood of Jesus For my cleansing this my plea Nothing but the blood of Jesus
Nothing can for sin atone Nothing but the blood of Jesus Naught of good that I have done Nothing but the blood of Jesus
This is all my hope and peace Nothing but the blood of Jesus This is all my righteousness, nothing but the blood of Jesus
Oh Lord You’re Beautiful
Oh Lord, You’re beautiful Your face is all I seek And when Your eyes are on this child Your grace abounds to me
I want to take Your Word And shine it all around First help me just to live it Lord And when I’m doing well Help me to never seek a crown For my reward is giving glory to You
Oh Lord please light the fire That once burned bright and clear Replace the lamp of my first love That burns with holy fear
Old Rugged Cross
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, the emblem of suff’ring and shame And I love that old cross where the dearest and best, for a world of lost sinners was slain
So, I’ll cherish the old rugged cross ‘Til my trophies at last I lay down I will cling to the old rugged cross And exchange it some day for a crown
O the old rugged cross so despised by the world, has a wondrous attraction for me For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above, to bear it to dark Calvary
In the old rugged cross stained with blood so divine, a wondrous beauty I see For ‘twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died, to pardon and sanctify me
To the old rugged cross, I will ever be true, its shame and reproach gladly bear Then he’ll call me some day to my home far away, where His glory forever I’ll share
Once Again
Jesus Christ, I think upon Your sacrifice You became nothing, poured out to death Many times, I’ve wondered at Your gift of life And I’m in that place once again,I’m in that place once again
Once again I look upon the cross where You died I’m humbled by Your mercy and I’m broken inside Once again, I thank You Once again, I pour out my life
Now You are exalted to the highest place King of the heavens where one day I’ll bow But for now, I marvel at this saving grace And I’m full of praise once again, I’m full of praise once again
Thank You for the cross, thank You for the cross Thank You for the cross my Friend
Remembrance (The Communion Song)
Oh, how could it be that my God would welcome me Into this mystery Say take this bread, take this wine now the simple made divine For any to receive
By Your mercy we come to Your table By Your grace You are making us faithful
Lord, we remember You and remembrance leads us to worship and as we worship You, our worship leads to communion We respond to Your invitation (We respond to Your invitation) We remember You
See His body, His blood know that He has overcome Every trial we will face And none too lost to be saved, none too broken or ashamed All are welcome in this place
Dying You destroyed our death, rising You restored our life Lord Jesus, come in glory, Lord Jesus, come in glory Lord Jesus, come in glory. Lord Jesus, come in glory
Revelation Song
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, holy, holy is He Sing a new son to Him who sit on heaven’s mercy seat (x2)
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty Who was and is and is to come With all creation I sing, praise to the King of Kings You are my everything and I will adore You
Clothed in rainbows of living color, flashes of lightning rolls of thunder Blessing and honor, strength and glory and power be To You the only wise King
I’m filled with wonder, awestruck wonder At the mention of your name Jesus, Your name is power, breath and living water Such a marvelous mystery
The Power of Your Love
Lord I come to you, let my heart be changed renewed Flowing from the grace that I found in You And Lord I’ve come to know the weaknesses I see in me Will be stripped away by the power of Your love
Hold me close, let Your love surround me Bring me near, draw me to Your side And as I wait, I’ll rise like an eagle And I will soar with You Your Spirit leads me on in the power of Your love
Lord unveil my eyes, let me see You face to face The knowledge of Your love, as You live in me Lord renew my mind as Your will unfolds in my life In living every day by the power of Your love
The Solid Rock
My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus name
On Christ the solid Rock I stand All other ground is sinking sand All other ground is sinking sand
When darkness seems to hide His face, I rest on His unchanging grace In ev’ry high and stormy gale my anchor holds within the veil
His oath, His covenant, His blood support me in the whelming flood When all around my soul gives way He then is all my hope and stay
When He shall come with trumpet sound O may I then in Him be found Dressed in His righteousness alone faultless to stand before the throne
The Sweetest Name of All
Jesus, You’re the sweetest name of all Jesus, You always hear me when I call Oh, Jesus, You pick me up each time I fall You’re the sweetest, the sweetest name of all
Jesus, how I love to praise Your name Jesus, You’re still the first the last the same Oh, Jesus, You died and took away my shame You’re the sweetest, the sweetest name of all
Jesus, You’re the soon and coming King Jesus, we need the love that You can bring Oh, Jesus, we lift our voices up and sing You’re the sweetest, the sweetest name of all
There is a Fountain
There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel’s veins And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains Lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains
The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day And there may I, though vile as he, wash all my sins away Wash all my sins away, wash all my sins away And there may I, though vile as he, wash all my sins away
Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood shall never lose its pow’r ‘Til all the ransomed Church of God be saved to sin no more Be saved to sin no more, be saved to sin no more ‘Til all the ransomed Church of God be saved to sin no more
E’er since by faith I saw the stream Thy flowing wounds supply Redeeming love has been my theme and shall be ‘til I die And shall be ‘til I die, and shall be ‘til I die Redeeming love has been my theme and shall be ‘til I die
The Love of God
The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell It goes beyond the highest star and reaches to the lowest hell The guilty pair bowed down with care God gave His Son to win His erring child He reconciled and pardoned for his sin
O love of God how rich and pure How measureless and strong It shall forevermore endure The saints and angels song
When years of time shall pass away and earthly thrones and kingdoms fall When men who hear refuse to pray on rocks and hills and mountains call God’s love so sure shall still endure all measureless and strong Redeeming grace to Adam’s race the saints and angels song
Could we with ink the ocean fill and were the skies of parchment made Where every stalk on earth a quill, and every man a scribe by trade To write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry Nor could the scroll contain the whole though stretched from sky to sky
Victory in Jesus
O victory in Jesus, my Saviour forever He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood He loved me ere I knew Him and all my love is due Him He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood
I heard an old old story, how a Saviour came from glory How He gave His life on Calvary to save a wretch like me I heard about His groaning, of His precious blood’s atoning Then I repented of my sins, and won the victory
I heard about His healing, of His cleansing pow’r revealing How He made the lame to walk again and caused the blind to see And then I cried dear Jesus, come and heal my broken spirit And somehow Jesus came and brought to me the victory
I heard about a mansion He has built for me in glory And I heard about the streets of gold beyond the crystal sea About the angels singing, and the old redemption story And some sweet day I’ll sing up there the song of victory
We Lift You High
We lift You high We lift the cross of Jesus Christ We lift You high The Lamb of God the sacrifice We lift You high The price for all humanity Your blood the cost Your love the cross Lord we lift You high
Your precious blood It washes white as snow No greater love Has this world ever known You died for the lost You gave Your life for me You suffered the cross For all the world to see
When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died My richest gain I count by loss And pour contempt on all my pride
Forbid it Lord that I should boast Save the death of Christ my God All the vain things that charm me most I sacrifice them to His blood
See from His head, His hands, His feet Sorrow and love flow mingled down Did ever such love and sorry meet Or thorns compose so rich a crown
Where the whole realm of nature mine That were a present (an offering) far to small Love so amazing, so divine Demands my soul, my life, my all
Wonder of Your Cross
The wonder of Your cross shall be our meditation To gather in that shadow as the sun went down To weep with those who thought that You were leaving You were leaving Jesus, the humble King Who never wore an earthly crown
To steal away at night when they took Your body With love and tears to leave You in a borrowed grave To go with Mary to that place they laid You. where they laid You Jesus And in the morning, find the stone was rolled away
The cross O the wonderful cross What glory what vict’ry I’ve found I’ll come to the wonderful cross and my whole life I lay down
Were heaven’s praises silent in those hours of darkness Your Holy Spirit brooding round that empty throne Until the declaration He is risen, You are risen Jesus He is not dead, behold He lives forevermore
Your Love O Lord
Your love O Lord Reaches to the heavens Your faithfulness Stretches to the sky Your righteousness Is like the mighty mountains Your justice flows like the ocean’s tide
I will lift my voice To worship You my King I will find my strength In the shadow of Your wings
