It would have been impossible to review al papers from the beginning of ichthyology, starting with authors as far back as Larrañaga or Jenyns, who worked the preserved fishes Darwin brought back home from his famous trip around the world. The publications of Nion et al. (2002) and Teixera de Mello et al. (2011) seemed to be a good basis where to start from. Both are not perfect for this purpose but still valuable sources and we highly recommend both as literature for the interested reader. Nion et al. (2002) published a list of both, the freshwater and marine species of Uruguay, only permitting the already knowledgeable to make the difference and recognize the freshwater fishes. Also, some time has passed since then and the systematic of this paper is outdated in many parts. Teixero de Mello et al. (2011) recently presented an excellent collection of the 100 most abundant species with all relevant information and colour pictures, allowing an easy approximate identification. The names used there are the ones currently considered valid. Uncountable papers have been published on the freshwater fishes of Uruguay, some with regional or local approaches, others treating with certain groups of fishes. -

Será mais um grande evento de nossa Sociedade, desta vez, presidido pela colega Bianca Bentes da Silva, com a colaboração de toda a sua equipe. No próximo EBI teremos novamente a eleição da diretoria da Sociedade, e conclamamos os associados a iniciarem, desde já, a discussão e proposição de novas chapas, uma vez que a diretoria atual, que já foi reconduzida uma vez, não poderá continuar em uma próxima gestão. Cabe salientar que cada vez mais a SBI e outras associações científicas se constituem em entidades reconhecidas na esfera do Ministério da Ciência e Tecnologia e do Ministério do Meio Ambiente, participando de grupos de trabalho, sendo solicitada a emitir pareceres técnicos sobre temas relacionados à Ictiologia ou de fazer indicações para comitês. Esperamos que esta participação seja crescente daqui para a frente. Neste Boletim nossos associados trazem contribuições diversas na área de Ictiologia. Igor Souto Santos e Gabriel Beltrão nos trazem a história da primeira firma de aquarismo no Brasil, sediada no Rio de Janeiro. A description of Areas and Subareas referenced in this Integrated Fisheries Management Plan can be found in the Pacific Fishery Management Area Regulations. 21-Feb-2021 Version 1.0 This page intentionally left blank 21-Feb-2021 Version 1.0 FOREWORD The purpose of this Integrated Fisheries Management Plan (IFMP) is to identify the main objectives and requirements for the Groundfish fisheries in the Pacific Region, as well as the management measures that will be used to achieve these objectives. This document also serves to communicate the basic information on the fishery and its management to Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) staff, legislated co-management boards and other stakeholders. This IFMP provides a common understanding of the basic “rules” for the sustainable management of the fisheries resource. This IFMP is not a legally binding instrument which can form the basis of a legal challenge. The IFMP can be modified at any time and does not fetter the Minister's discretionary powers set out in the Fisheries Act, Species At Risk Act, and Oceans Act. The Minister can, for reasons of conservation or for any other valid reasons, modify any provision of the IFMP in accordance with the powers granted pursuant to the Fisheries Act, Species At Risk Act, and Oceans Act.
