Sibrydion 3 Sibrydion A great calendar Cymunedol for good causes

The Charity Calendars are well on the way now. It won’t be long before they are available for sale and will be available throughout the year. The entries were kindly judged by Jean Napier, our local Professional Photographer purely on the merit of the each photo. There were two people who had more than one entry selected, as Jean had no idea who had taken what. We really have some lovely pictures for it. These were two from Andrew Currie of Abergynolwyn and also Christine Radford, of Fairbourne. Both clearly have Debbie Ashton, an excellent eye for a great photograph. Andrew and Christine will win a Editor half-day session with Jean out shooting photos in a location of their choice, at a time to suit them (and Jean!) with Jean sharing her expertise, plus Andrew will receive a small cash prize of £50, as one of his photos is picked as the cover photograph.

Other photographers who have contributed to the calendar are: Kevin Taylor of Llwyngwril, (residing at the Wirral), Kate Allsopp, a long-standing frequent visitor to the area, from Suffolk, Phillipa Millar of Llanbedr.

So well done to all the entrants, we had a lot to choose from. Thank you for entering the competition! Well done especially to those whose photos were selected, and I’m sure you will see what a fabulous calendar it is.

Sibrydion is thrilled to have the support of our printer, Jamprint, (www.jamprint.co.uk) who are kindly printing the calendars at Cost Price, so that we can maximise the amount of money we raise for the charities we are supporting, namely: RNLI; Aberdyfi Search and Rescue; Air Ambulance ; First Responders; all of which are crucial to our safety all around the year and also Welsh Hearts, who, together with First Responders have provided training to so many people, in using the Defibrillators, which we all have in our communities. Visitors to our area as well as we locals have much to be grateful to them all for! All profits, after costs covered, will be split five ways equally between the charities listed above. So please support this and order calendars – they will make a great gift!

If anyone would like to pre-order a calendar they will be competitively priced at £8.50 and we can post out to you as soon as they are ready, for £1.75.

Email [email protected] for details. Or post a cheque for £10.25 to Sibrydion Cymuned Charity Calendar, Bod Idris, Llwyngwril, LL37 2JB. Please note the submission They will be in local outlets and also will be available on the village website deadline for content www.llwyngwril.org.uk. Many thanks for your support. in your diary –and supply in good time. 01341 250884 or [email protected] Debbie Ashton – Many thanks.

Sibrydion 17 Dating dilemma

“I recently joined a dating website. I was contacted by a lovely man and we started to exchange messages. We now email every day, although we haven’t met in person yet. We had arranged to go for a meal, but then he cancelled because he needs to concentrate on fundraising for his daughter – the medicines she needs aren’t available on the NHS. He’s asked me to contribute, his daughter needs treatment urgently. He’s given me details of a bank account to pay into. I want to help, but I’m unsure because I’ve only known him a short time.”

She reflects that the flat structure of a Co-operative was deliberately chosen so that everyone would be equal and decisions would be made collectively, not by a hierarchy. All members have different skills and valuable experience to offer the group. The Gallery is run by the makers equally, as they pool their knowledge, share what works well and support each other. 44 Sibrydion The Craftsman by Marcus Christian

I ply with all the cunning of my art This little thing, and with consummate care I fashion it—so that when I depart, Those who come after me shall find it fair And beautiful. It must be free of flaws— Pointing no laborings of weary hands; And there must be no flouting of the laws Of beauty—as the artist understands.

Through passion, yearnings infinite—yet dumb— I lift you from the depths of my own mind And gild you with my soul’s white heat to plumb The souls of future men. I leave behind This thing that in return this solace gives: “He who creates true beauty ever lives.”

April: Hopefully the Beast from the East of 2018 will be a dim distant memory by now, as I write this we’ve had snow further north in Wales but escaped the worst here. It’s been a much kinder winter, not forgetting the record-breaking high temperatures of February! The Spring Equinox was on 20th March and although the clocks went forward a week later this year evenings should now be feeling lighter, giving us more time outdoors.

Towards the end of the month they should be hardy enough to stay outdoors. If you need to water the garden, do this early in the morning and after sunset; and consider setting up an effective rainwater collection system to avoid metered water costs. Rainwater is better for the plants too! Don’t forget that we have regular plant deliveries so there is always something new to see; and if you have a specific plant in mind do let us know and we will try to order it for you. The shop also has a comprehensive range of gardening equipment and materials – so pop in for a browse. 52 Sibrydion The first shoots
