The region of SE Europe is characterized by whole range of resemblances, which create the connections between its countries: in language, history, politics, culture, heritage, social situation, economy, general strategy of development etc.; and for that reason the situation in the institutions, the state of the profession and heritage is very similar. Therefore, professionals from the region have a need to cooperate in order to solve corresponding problems, and to work on their development through close regional collaboration. The process of establishment of ICOM SEE began in the early 21st century, when in several minor ICOM Committees from the region of Southeast Europe developed the need to unite into one strong professional organization, which would be more equal in front of the international community, and build a stronger influence on cultural policy at the national and regional frameworks. In 2005 this initiative is first defined in accordance with the ICOM statute when ICOM SEE starts to function as a working group of ICOM EUROPE for Southeast Europe. However, due to the dynamic professional activities that took place, the professionals from the region of Southeast Europe felt the need to establish
