Behandelt Experimente über den Einfluß von Salzen auf In- fusorien (besonders Paramaecium aureha) und einige Flagellaten (Oicomonas, Tetramitus, Menoidium u. Cryptomonas). Es handelte sich um 9 Jahre (eine sogar 16 Jahre) alte Kolonien. Chlornatrium- lösungen, die stärker sind als die isotonische (0,3 %), erzeugen ,,Plag- morrhyse" (d. h. Runzelung der Zelle infolge Entziehung von Wasser). Das Plasma wird dadurch gleichsam ausgetrocknet, was das Absterben Arch. f. Natnigescb. 70. Jahrg. 1904. Bd. IL H.«. Die verscliiedenen Individuen einer Kolonie, sowie die verschiedenen Kolonien untereinander besitzen dabei ein ganz ver- schiedenes Resistenzvermögen. Bei Zusatz von Wasser folgt wiederum Ausdehnung des Plasmas und die Paramaecien nehmen ihre volle Gestalt wieder an. — Isotonische Lösungen von Brom- oder Jodnatrium wirken ähnlich der unschädUchen von Chlornatrium, doch findet ein weniger häufiges und weniger starkes Pulsieren der kontraktilen Vakuolen statt. Die Paramaecien sterben nach einigen Tagen ab. — Sämtliche Kaliumsalze erregen auch bei Isotonie eigentümliche Be- wegungen der Paramaecien, die ,,rotation potassique". Es erfolgt so- fort Plasmorrhyse, übermäßige Aufnahme von Wasser und Tod. Die Wirkung der (3) Lithiumsalze ist eine ähnliche wie die der Natriumsalze, sie sind indessen auch giftig. Mit Chlornatrium durchtränkte Para- maecien besitzen eine größere Widerstandsfähigkeit gegen die Kalisalze als normale. Seewasser wirkt schädlicher als Chlornatrium. Cyankalium (0,2—0,5%) wirkt nicht absolut tötlich, jedoch sicher auf Uronema marinum, Euplotes charon u. Chilodon uncinatus, die sonst starke Chlornatriumdosen ganz gut ertragen. Die Wirksamkeit des Cyan- kaliums ist umso stärker, je höher die Wasserschicht, weil die als Gegen- gift wirkende Luft umso schwieriger Zutritt hat. Stylonichia mytilus wird von Chlornatrium (0,25 %) angefressen, vorzugsweise die großen Individuen. Werden diese dann in salzfreies Wasser versetzt, so er- folgt Rekonstitution zu kleineren Individuen, die sich teilen und en- cystieren können. Die Cysten von Stylonichia u. Colpoda cucullus sind sehr resistent gegen Chlornatrium und Kaliumnitrat. Hier spielt wohl undurchlässige Membran eine große Rolle; ferner ist das Plasma sehr wasserarm. [Nach Neapl. Bericht]. — {%). Nach Angaben der Verff. bestehen die Parasiten der Tertiana, die sich in A. nicht mehr fortpflanzen können, aus Makro- u. Mikro- gametocyten. Im Mitteldarm von Anopheles treten aus den letzteren gewöhnlich je 6 Mikrogameten aus u. kopulieren mit Makrogameten (ist aber nicht beobachtet). Letztere dringen nunmehr in den Mittel- darm [das Coelom ?) ein u. entwickeln sich dort weiter, ähnlich wie Proteosoma nach Ross. Sie sind aber stets morphologisch von den Halbmonden verschieden. Mit Induktionsströmen gereizte Paramaecien wandern in der Richtung zur Kathode, bewegen sich aber in den Teilen des Wasser- tropfens, wo die Stromstärke am geringsten und lagern sich auch nur an der Oberfläche der Electrode nur da an, wo die Stromdichte am geringsten ist. Tote Partikel (Karminpulver, Stärkekörner, Lyco- podiumsamen), die im Wasser aufschwemmen, wandern auch zur Kathode, aber zu den Stellen, wo der Strom am dichtesten und stärksten ist. Das Wandern zur Kathode ist also auf die rein physikalische, kataphorische Wirkung des Stromes zurückzuführen ; die Einstellung der Organismen an die Orte von geringster Stromstärke und -dichte beruht dagegen auf einem der physikal. Indonesia is a tropical region that stretches across the equator, comprised of 5 main islands (Java, Kalimantan, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Papua) and 4 archipelagoes (Riau, Bangka Belitung, Nusa Tenggara, and Ma- luku). As most population of Eastern Indonesia (Sulawesi, Papua and Nusa Tenggara & Maluku) live in poor areas, it is ex- pected that there will be many parasites. Nevertheless, little is known about the status of parasites in Indonesia. This study examines the prevalences of malaria and lymphatic filaria, which are prevalent in Indonesia, as well as those of soil- transmitted-helminths (STH). As a result, the Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax case loads are almost equal. The cur- rent prevalence of P. vivax is uniformly low (< 5%) in all age groups and annual parasite incidence (API) showed decreas- ing tendency as 0.84 per 1,000 population in 2016. However, more than 65 million people still live in malaria epidemic re- gions.

While there is no doubt that rapidly dwindling endangered populations require our immediate attention, studies on common species are equally important. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the genetic connectivity, biogeographical relationships and host-parasite interactions of a common and widely distributed bird species, mainly because we want common species to remain common. Furthermore, I illustrate how studies such as this provide invaluable comparisons for sympatric endangered species. In this thesis, patterns of genetic variation of the New Zealand bellbird (Anthornis melanura) are delineated to assess their re-colonization potential among fragmented landscapes.

Correspondence: [email protected] ABSTRACT Taxonomy includes collection, identification, naming and ordering of specimens into a system of words consistent with any kind of relationships among them, the study of literatures and analysis of variations shown by the specimens and finally the publication of data. Practical reasons for the degree of stability-even for a relatively short period of time are: for teaching purposes at advanced levels and for the benefit of many non- protozoolists. The eimeriid coccidia are one of the more controversial groups of protozoa. The problems of describing different species within family Eimeriidae Minchin, 1903 are due to their abnormal phenotypic and phylogenetic characters, occurrence in abnormal hosts with different lifecycle patterns. The basis of classification of the genera under this family includes the Phenotypic and Phylogenetic characters and the lifecycle of parasites and data of their hosts. I have updated the information of classification system given by the Society of Protozoologists (Lee JJ, Hutner SH, Bovee EC and Upton J, 2001. The Illustrated Guide to the Protozoa, 2nd Edition. In this review, I have focused on seventeen true species and seven pseudospecies with the information of their synonyms, oocyst formula, generic characters, and total number of named species, type species and type host.
