De Jesus (CPA) The WOCCU Forum - World Council of Credit Union Forum this year was held at Singapore last July, some members of the BOD, me and the Acting CEO attended the Forum. This is the second time that I have attended the WOCCU Forum. When I was the treasurer of The Philippine Federation of Credit Cooperative (PFCCO), I was included in the list of Philippine delegates to attend the Forum which was held in Cork City Ireland in 1996. Comparing the WOCCU Forum in Ireland and Singapore which is 22 years apart, I found that there is big disparity on the various topics discussed. In the 2018 Forum, they were already introducing topics on Robotics, Artificial Intelligence as well as transactions done in Credit Union not on personal basis but using new gadgets available in the market. In my personal opinion, the cooperatives in the Philippines are not yet ready to embrace those advance mechanical gadgets or machines that can be used by the Cooperatives in the future. Being a Third World Country, it will take years before we can learn and use the above machines. At least we know what the future will look like in the cooperative sector. Asian Confederation of Credit Union (ACCU) Forum Being a supporter member of ACCU, we were again invited to attend the General Assembly and Educational Forum of ACCU which was held in Manila last September. We were again one of those awarded with Silver Medal. Only two in the Philippines were given this award. We attended several break-out sessions with topics ranging from information technology and Formation of Unified Cooperative Federation or Union of each member countries. The Silver Award was given by ACCU since we maintain the standard set for the four (4) perspectives required to be an ACCESS Brand Awardee. The four perspectives were based on the balance scorecard as formulated by various professors in business at Harvard University USA. Each perspective was graded individually based on the following criteria: 1.Customers/Members - To achieve our Mission how should we appear to customer/Members. 2.Internal Business Process - To satisfy our shareholders and customer/ member what business process must we excel in. 3.Learning & Growth - To achieve our vision on how will we sustain our ability to change or improve. 4.Financial - To succeed financially, how should we appear to shareholders/ Members. It is our dream that we attain the highest score possible in order that we can reach the possible score needed for the Gold Award of ACCESS BRAND. MASIKAP Newsletter 3rd Quarter 2018 3 Free Eye Consultation & Cataract Surgery By: Dra. Jovita Mateo Every year, we celebrate month of August as “Senior Citizen’s Month”. As part of the celebration, San Jose Koop created a “Free Eye Consultation and Cataract Surgery Program” for senior members of San Jose Koop in cooperation with Skyline Eye Center’s program “Eye Care, We Care”. With the help of Opthalmologists from Skyline Eye Center, a total of 107 senior members of San Jose Koop were given a free eye check-up and three of them have undergone the free cataract operation. With this regard, San Jose Koop would like to thank Dr. Maya Fe N. Daruan, Dr. Benjamin E. Bunyi, Dr. Marco A. Tumalad, Dr. Gary Mariano, Dr. Majourette D. Varela and Dr. Alain P. Arcega for the support for our members. San Jose Koop may continue the “Free Eye Consultation and Cataract Operation” program for those members who need the service, and hoping that we can continue to provide other services needed by our members. 4 MASIKAP Newsletter 3rd Quarter 2018 reeBy: Dir. LydiaPlanting Mangubat San Jose Coop together with 17 other Cooperatives in Bulacan participated in a tree planting activity organized by Bulacan Cooperative Hall of Fame League Union at Barangay Pulo, San Rafael, Bulacan last August 15, 2018 as part of our commitment in promoting sustainability and protecting the environment. Our contingent was made up of board members, committee members and coop staff. Planting a tree is like investing for our future, not only for us but for our future grandchildren. It’s like saving and investing money in our cooperative, we save and invest to have a brighter future ahead. Each tree that we plant absorbs the carbon dioxide in the air, and that prevents global warming, produces the oxygen we breathe in, soaks up in each roots the life-saving water that flows through the rivers, dams and finally to our faucets.

Within two years a second party – the Communist Party of the Philippines (cpp) – had been founded. In this work I argue that it was the political program of Stalinism, embodied in both parties through three basic principles – socialism in one country, the two-stage theory of revolution, and the bloc of four classes – that determined the fate of political struggles in the Philippines in the late 1960s and early 1970s and facilitated Marcos’ declaration of Martial Law in September 1972. I argue that the split in the Communist Party of the Philippines was the direct expression of the Sino-Soviet split in global Stalinism. The impact of this geopolitical split arrived late in the Philippines because it was initially refracted through Jakarta.

PHILIPPI N E E L E C T I O N 2 0 1 0 Caucus of Development NGO Networks Introduction This is a compilation of profiles of selected national candidates for the May 2010 Philippine elections. These profiles contain basic information, significant achievements and known advocacies of the national candidates. Much as we would want to include all the national candidates for the 2010 elections, time and resources serve as a significant limitation in accomplishing this. The information in these profiles was taken from a research, mainly using various websites including the official websites of the candidates. The initial drafts of most of these profiles were presented to and discussed at seven (7) regional consultations last July – August 2009 that also discussed the draft of the Development and Reform Agenda for 2010-2013. The feedback from those consultations was used to improve the profiles. After the deadline for the filing of candidacies last December 1, 2009, we added a handful of profiles, particularly for the candidates that we had not expected before. This research and publication were undertaken by the Caucus of Development NGO Networks (CODE-NGO) with the intention of helping Filipino voters in critically assessing and evaluating the national candidates. CODE-NGO encourages the use, translation, adaptation and copying of this material for non-commercial use, with appropriate credit given to CODE-NGO. • Probing the Iglesia Vote: Religious Endorsement and Iglesia Support in the 2004 and 2010 Senatorial Elections*
Probing the Iglesia Vote: Religious Endorsement and Iglesia Support in the 2004 and 2010 Senatorial Elections* Allan Cairo Reyes Abstract The Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ) has had considerable influence in Philippine politics following the so-called EDSA Revolution of 1986. This is evident in the success of its candidate endorsement in elections, which has elicited allegations of the religious sect engaging in bloc voting. This phenomenon invites an inquiry into the efficacy of such endorsement. How potent is an Iglesia endorsement? To answer this question, this study obtained measures of Iglesia support (Iglesia Ni Cristo vote share) using 2004 and 2010 exit poll data for senators and analyzed these with Iglesia Ni Cristo candidate endorsement data and candidate popularity ratings. Ordinary least squares and logistic regression models were estimated to determine which variables really command votes from members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo, as well as to gauge whether or not candidate popularity is the primary consideration in the organization’s endorsement. Findings suggest that while both endorsement and popularity produce INC votes, an Iglesia endorsement is contingent upon the candidates’ projected winning margins. Moreover, there is a positive relationship between candidate popularity and the likelihood of an INC endorsement. ___________ * An early version of this paper was presented at the 9thAnnual Congress of the Asian Political and International Studies Association (APISA9) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 2015. Keywords: bloc vote, endorsement, Iglesia Ni Cristo, Philippine elections, Philippine politics 24 Probing the Iglesia Vote The Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) has been successful with candidate endorsement over the last four senatorial elections.1 Of the twelve senatorial candidates endorsed by the INC in the 2013 elections, ten emerged victorious.
