HERE Feature Film Project Summary A Braden King Film Written by Braden King and Dani Valent Producers: Lars Knudsen, Jay Van Hoy Co-Producer: Jeff Kalousdian Executive Producers: Zoe Kevork, Julia King A Truckstop Media / Parts and Labor Production 302A W. 12th St., #223 New York, New York 10014 (212) 989-7105 / [email protected] www.herefilm.info Logline HERE is a dramatic, landscape-obsessed road movie that chronicles a brief but intense romantic relationship between an American satellite-mapping engineer and an expatriate Armenian art photographer who impulsively decide to travel together into uncharted territory. Synopsis Will Shepard is an American satellite-mapping engineer contracted to create a new, more accurate survey of the country of Armenia. Within the industry, his solitary work - land-surveying satellite images to check for accuracy and resolve anomalies - is called “ground-truthing”. He’s been doing it on his own, for years, all over the world. But on this trip, his measurements are not adding up. Will meets Gadarine Najarian at a rural hotel. Tough and intriguing, she’s an expatriate Armenian art photographer on her first trip back in ages, passionately trying to figure out what kind of relationship - if any - she still has with her home country and culture. Fiercely independent, Gadarine is struggling to resolve the life she’s led abroad with the Armenian roots that run so deeply through her. There is an instant, unconscious bond between these two lone travelers; they impulsively decide to continue together. HERE tells the story of their unique journey and the dramatic personal transformations it leads each of them through.

  • Mick Geyer in 1996: NC: Mr Mick Geyer, My Chief Researcher and Guru, He Is the Man Behind the Scenes
www.pbsfm.org.au FULL TRANSCRIPT OF DOCUMENTARY #3 First broadcast on PBS-FM Wednesday 12 April 2006, 7-8pm Nick Cave interviewing Mick Geyer in 1996: NC: Mr Mick Geyer, my chief researcher and guru, he is the man behind the scenes. How important is music to you? MG: It seems to be a fundamental spirit of existence in some kind of way. The messages of musicians seem to be as relevant as those of any other form of artistic expression. MUSIC: John Coltrane - Welcome (Kulu Se Mama) LISA PALERMO (presenter): Welcome to 'Mick Geyer: Music Guru'. I'm Lisa Palermo and this is the third of four documentaries paying tribute to Mick, a broadcaster and journalist in the Melbourne music scene in the 1980's and '90's. Mick died in April 2004 of cancer of the spine. He had just turned 51. His interests and activities were centred on his love of music, and as you'll hear from recent interviews and archival material, his influence was widespread, but remained largely outside the public view. In previous programs we heard about the beginnings of his passion for music, and his role at PBS FM, behind the scenes and on the radio. Now we'll explore Mick as a catalyst and friend to many musicians, through conversation and the legendary Geyer tapes, those finely crafted compilations of musical enlightenment and education. In this program we'll hear for the first time from: musicians Dave Graney & Clare Moore, Jex Saarelaht, Hugo Race, Tex Perkins, Warren Ellis, Kim Salmon, Brian Hooper, Charlie Owen, and Penny Ikinger; and from friends Beau Cummin, Mariella del Conte, Stephen Walker and Warwick Brown.

The Squirrel Bait and Rodan genealogies continued to dominate Kentucky's and Chicago's post-rock scene during the 1990s. Half of Rodan, i.e. Tara Jane O'Neil (now on vocals and guitar) and Kevin Coultas, formed Sonora Pine with keyboardist and guitarist Sean Meadows, violinist Samara Lubelski and pianist Rachel Grimes. Their debut album, Sonora Pine (1996), basically applied Rodan's aesthetics to the format of the folk lullaby. Another member of Rodan, guitarist Jeff Mueller, formed June Of 44 (11), a sort of supergroup comprising Sonora Pine's guitarist Sean Meadows, Codeine's drummer and keyboardist Doug Scharin, and bassist and trumpet player Fred Erskine. Engine Takes To The Water (1995) signaled the evolution of "slo-core" towards a coldly neurotic form, which achieved a hypnotic and catatonic tone, besides a classic austerity, on the mini-album Tropics And Meridians (1996). Sustained by abrasive and inconclusive guitar doodling, mutant rhythm and off-key counterpoint of violin and trumpet, Four Great Points (1998) metabolized dub, raga, jazz, pop in a theater of calculated gestures.

  • Historiek Van Een Muziekclub in De Westhoek

  • The Unknown Variable: Multiple Target Markets in One…
© ephemera 2007 articles ISSN 1473-2866 e phemera www.ephemeraweb.org theory & politics in organization volume 7(4): 575-587 The Unknown Variable: Multiple Target Markets in One… Prue Burns Lower your expectations because it has been said that Generation Xers can’t write, at least “not in a literary sense” (Dawson, 1997: 22, citing the views of the literary establishment). We are the missing link of literature, disdainful of form, feeling and sensibility. When publishers Allen & Unwin went searching for the “voice of the young urban Australian” in the early 1990s what they found was ‘grunge lit’ (Dawson, 1997: 123). Reportage rather than fiction, it depicts a world of disaffection inhabited by characters with “low pay, low status and low future” (Brown, 2001: 125), drifting toward what appears to be self-annihilation. The writing itself is scrupulously detached and without illusion. It seems we quite like to shock the reader, but as to whether we move them or not, well, we pretend not to care. These so-called non-literary tendencies have been viewed as a cultural trait, arising from the fact that Generation X is “the first generation for whom the book is not the primary source of cultural formation” (Dawson, 1997: 122). Born roughly between 1960 and 1975 (Rymarz, 2004; Dixon, 2004; Brabazon, 1998), we are the urban “children of the media revolution” (Brabazon, 1998: 11): cinema-going, comic-strip- reading, hyper self-aware devotees of pulp, which has the distinction of allowing us to “[indulge] in the playfulness of amorality” (Epstein, 1994, cited in Hopkins, 1995: 15) and try on different identities for size.

BETTer Angel Films IN AssOCiaTION WITH INDIEPIX Films presenT A new feaTure film by Tim RUTili FeaTuring Original musiC by CalifOne ALL MY FRIENDS ARE FUNERAL SINGERS www.funeralsingersfilm.com SHORT Zel is a fortune teller and shares her home with a group of ghosts who help her remove clients’ aches and pains, advise gamblers, and channel cranky spirits to check on their loved ones. When a mysterious light appears in the woods and the ghosts realize that they are trapped, Zel is forced to come to terms with the origins of these spirits and let go of the only family she has ever known. LONG Zel is a fortune teller. For as long as she can remember she has shared her home with a group of ghosts -- a priest, a bride, a mute child, some washed up vaudevillians and a noisy, sight-impaired group of musicians. Zel works with her ethereal roommates to help her clients. Although it is supernatural work, it is also a job as she removes cli- ents’ aches and pains, advises gamblers, and channels cranky spirits to check on their loved ones. When a mysterious light appears in the woods the ghosts realize that they are trapped and forge a rebellion. Zel is forced to come to terms with the origins of these spirits, and letting go of the only family she has ever known. Superstition, sound and the confines of Zel’s claustrophobic house feed the film’s construction, allowing the story to unfold like music. Zel’s unique existence is a lesson in hope, habit, and folklore.

KATHARINA GROSSE STEFAN SCHNEIDER TIERGARTEN Album Vinyl/DL TAL03 International release date 04.03.2017 Worldwide distribution MORR Walter Benjamin begins his Berlin Childhood around 1900, a book in the form of a series of vignettes, with the following two sentences: "Not to find one!s way around a city does not mean much. But to lose one!s way in a city, as one loses one!s way in a forest, requires some schooling." Entitled Tiergarten, after the eponymous park in central Berlin, this passage from Benjamin's memoir written in the 1930s anticipates what a generation later Guy Debord put forth with his concept of dérive (1956) – a kind of consciously counterintuitive drifting through the city in order to upend its common logic and routine. The city as a sometimes alien piece of nature that you moonwalk through can still be resuscitated, even a century after the initial experiences described. It may be tempting to describe the first collaborative album by Katharina Grosse and Stefan Schneider, titled Tiergarten as a collaboration of an internationally renowned visual artist and an equally internationally renowned musician. Grosse's distinctive approach to non- representational painting on an architectural scale, well beyond the limits of the canvas, has been the subject of exhibitions worldwide, at art institutions including New York's MoMA PS1, Chicago's Rennaissance Society, or the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. And Schneider's musical activities have gone from being a founding member of Dusseldorf outfit Kreidler, through his longtime commitment as a member of Berlin-based trio To Rococo Rot, to his many performances and recordings with musicians including Krautrock legends Hans-Joachim Roedelius (Cluster), Klaus Dinger (Kraftwerk, NEU!), and Hans-Joachim Irmler (Faust), or contemporary drumming virtuoso John McEntire (Tortoise, The Sea and Cake) .

But when an old friend returns with dangerous new plans that threaten the fragile balance Cole has crafted in his declining mountain town, his world and identity are thrown into deep disarray. THE EVENING HOUR is an authentic portrait of a rural American landscape in transition - a moving, lyrical hymn for the complex tangle of hardship and hope wrought by the opioid addiction in Appalachia. TO SEE AND BE SEEN “The Evening Hour began as a book by Carter Sickels, born of Carter’s talking to people in the southern mountains about what was happening in their lives. His novel grew out of a documentary impulse and was received by the region as a beautiful new friend, immediately recognized and accepted. When Braden King and his friends came to my part of the southern mountains to shoot a film based on Carter’s book, they took similar care to acknowledge and discover where they were.
