Our programme of five plenary sessions, and the dozens of workshops, invited sessions, oral paper presentations and poster presentations over two days are a testament to the growth in health services research over recent years in the United Kingdom, and the existence of a thriving and creative research community. With around 350 people from universities, thinktanks, research funders, NHS organisations, patient and public involvement groups and other stakeholders gathered in Manchester it presents an unparalleled opportunity to see the state of the science in HSR, meet and network with colleague and collaborators. There are awards for the best oral presentations and posters at the conference, and this year we want everyone to contribute by voting for oral presentations and posters that they like – go to www.sli.do/HSRUK19 and enter the 3 digit code beside the presentation or poster in this programme. These are uncertain and difficult times for the NHS in all four countries of the UK, but perhaps particularly in England where the difficult legacy of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 is slowly being unpicked. -

UCL QUALITY REVIEW FRAMEWORK - ANNEX 6.1.3: ASER DEVELOPMENT & ENHANCEMENT PLAN Academic Session: 2016-17 Department: UCL Medical School Faculty: Medical Sciences CONNECTED CURRICULUM Last session, Departments were invited to discuss how they intended to begin their preliminary assessment of their taught provision by benchmarking each programme against the grid in the Connected Curriculum Enhancement Guide. Programmes were asked to evaluate and clearly state where the programme or cluster of similar programmes was benchmarked in relation to each dimension of the Connected Curriculum. In this section, Departments are asked to indicate the extent to which their programme(s) reflect each of the six dimensions, to highlight notable examples of good practice, and (in the Development and Enhancement plan below) to list up to six actions that the department/programme team will now take to enhance the programme(s) over the next two to three years. Departments will then be asked to review progress in relation to these actions in the Autumn 2019 ASER. The broad evaluation of the programme(s) as ‘Beginning’, ‘Developing’, ‘Developed’ or ‘Outstanding’ for each dimension will enable the Department/Programme Leader to track progress in relation to all six dimensions over time. It is intended to be a broadly agreed description of current practice in the programme(s) as a whole. General guidance on interpreting these terms is found on p6-7 of the Connected Curriculum online guide: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/teaching-learning/sites/teaching-learning/files/connected_curriculum_brochure_21_june_2017.pdf Departments may also find the ‘Twenty Questions’ on p10 helpful. If you have a large number of UG programmes in your department, a suggested approach is to use this form to provide a departmental summary of your programmes and then to identify those particular programmes which are excelling or which need more development by completing a form with a summary for each programme (or cluster of very similar programmes). -

The duties of this post will be split between Kettering General Hospital and the Eastman Dental Institute, with three days spent in Kettering and two days in the Eastman Dental Institute. This post will be based administratively at the Trent Deanery, Sheffield. The Postgraduate Dental Dean has approved this post for training on advice from the SAC in Orthodontics. The posts have the requisite educational and staffing approval for specialist training leading to a CCST and Specialist Registration with the General Dental Council. The successful candidate will be required to register on the joint training programme leading to the M.Orth.RCS and the MClin.Dent. in Orthodontics at the University of London (unless they already hold equivalent qualifications). This appointment is for one year in the first instance, renewable for a further two years subject to annual review of satisfactory work and progress. Applicants considering applying for this post on a Less Than full Time (flexible training) basis should initially contact the Postgraduate Dental Dean’s office in Sheffield for a confidential discussion. QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Applicants for specialist training must be registered with the GDC, fit to practice and able to demonstrate that they have the required broad-based training, experience and knowledge to enter the training programme. Applicants for orthodontics will be expected to have had a broad based training including a period in secondary care, ideally in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery and paediatric dentistry and to have completed a 2 year period of General Professional Training. -

This includes hip and knee replacements; and other surgery of hips, knees, shoulders, elbows, feet, ankles and hands. Any changes could affect residents of Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington and neighbouring boroughs. We need your comments and advice.
