Now, the legendary spitter tells XXL he was inspired by the shout-out to reach out to the man formerly known as Tity Boi for a future collaboration. “The funny thing is, I didn’t hear the song before I heard the line,” $hort says when asked about his reaction to the 2 Chainz verse. “It started blowing up [on] Twitter and the first thing I saw was people hitting it going, ‘I love 2 Chainz for saying Too $hort is his father figure ‘cause Too $hort is my father figure, too!’” “A lot of grown men never even knew their fathers,” he continues. “I never looked at it like that.” Thus, the rhymeslinger says he reached out to 2 Chainz for a potential “visual” collabo to accompany the track, tossing a nod to Chainz for setting the tone to become a legend in the future himself. “He might not know this right now, but all that game he spittin’, 2 Chainz, he’s raisin’ a whole generation too,” $hort says. “He gon’ be Too $hort 20 years from now.” While 2 Chainz name-dropped $hort Dawg on the track, another well-known rapper recently paid homage to the entire Bay Area. Drake’s “The Motto” video was shot in Too $hort’s hometown, a move which $hort credits to Drizzy’s respect for Bay Area music. “[Drake's] probably been to some clubs in the Bay and heard that sound,” he explains. “If you’re an out-of-towner and you hear it, it’s like, ‘Wow, I like this shit!’ It’s like when you go down south and you’re not from the south, you’re like, ‘Wow, I got a good vibe. I’m going home to make some music that sounds like that!’ You just wanna dabble in it a little bit. So I figure folks wanna dabble in a little bit. In my opinion, the Bay is a trendsetting area.” And, although some viewers expressed confusion about Drake featuring the late Oakland rapper, Mac Dre’s mother in the clip, Too $hort commends the Take Care MC for the move. “[Mac Dre] is an icon,” he shares. “In the Bay, they celebrate his birthday. They mourn on the day he died. It’s like a big deal every year. So, I know where [Drake] got his knowledge from as to how to approach it. It had to come from DJ Franzen. “When you come to the Bay, we always had this slick talk,” he continues, further explaining the Bay sound.“E-40 made it real famous. We make up words. We talk real funny. When you hang around a bunch of Bay cats, you’re like, ‘You guys are funny.’ But that’s our way. This is the biggest misconception about the Bay – people think that we’re LA… Very different stuff. LA has its swag.” So different that the Bay has become a “major city” in terms of finding rap talent and succeeding as a rapper, Too $hort says. “It’s one of those areas as New York is,” he says. “We really don’t need outsiders. You can be in the Bay and sell 10,000 copies of independent records and make 50 grand and that’s your job for the year. The shows you do off of that and them 10,000 sales is gonna feed you and your homies. Wow, imagine that!” —Shamecca Harris TAGS: 2 CHAINZ (HTTP://WWW.XXLMAG.COM/TAG/2-CHAINZ/), BAY AREA Like 0 Tweet 0 () Tweet () (HTTP://WWW.XXLMAG.COM/TAG/BAY-AREA/), DRAKE (HTTP://WWW.XXLMAG.COM/TAG/DRAKE/), E-40 (HTTP://WWW.XXLMAG.COM/TAG/E-40/), THE MOTTO (HTTP://WWW.XXLMAG.COM/TAG/THE-MOTTO/), TOO SHORT (HTTP://WWW.XXLMAG.COM/TAG/TOO-SHORT/) () NEWS (/NEWS/) XXLTV (/VIDEO/) SNEAKERS BANGERS (/RAP- (/LIFESTYLE/SNEAKERS/) MUSIC/BANGERS/) (http://www.xxlmag.com/news/2013/05/snoop-(http://www.xxlmag.com/video/2013/05/raekwon- dogg-opens-up-about-his-pimping- on-wu-tang-clan-reunion-the- (http://www.xxlmag.com/lifestyle/2013/05/ronn(hiett-p://www.xxlmag.com/rap- past-it-was-my-program/) business-has-got-to-be-done-right/) fieg-x-asics-gel-lyte-iii-new-york-city- music/bangers/2013/05/listen-to- and-miami-beach-kicks/) webbie-new-track-what-i-do/) SNOOP DOGG OPENS UP ABOUT HIS RAEKWON ON WU-TANG CLAN PIMPING PAST: “IT WAS MY REUNION: “THE BUSINESS HAS GOT RONNIE FIEG X ASICS GEL LYTE IIIS LISTEN TO WEBBIE’S NEW TRACK PROGRAM” TO BE DONE RIGHT” (HTTP://WWW.XXLMAG.COM/LIFESTYLE/201“3W/0H5/ARTO I NDNOI”E- (HTTP://WWW.XXLMAG.COM/NEWS/2013/05(/HSTNTOPO://PW- WW.XXLMAG.COM/VIDEO/2013/0F5I/ERGA-EXK-AWSOICNS--GEL-LYTE-III-NEW- (HTTP://WWW.XXLMAG.COM/RAP- DOGG-OPENS-UP-ABOUT-HIS- ON-WU-TANG-CLAN-REUNION-THE- YORK-CITY-AND-MIAMI-BEACH- MUSIC/BANGERS/2013/05/LISTEN- PIMPING-PAST-IT-WAS-MY- BUSINESS-HAS-GOT-TO-BE-DONE- KICKS/) TO-WEBBIE-NEW-TRACK-WHAT-I- PROGRAM/) RIGHT/) DO/) (http://www.xxlmag.com/lifestyle/2013/04/air- (http://www.xxlmag.com/news/2013/05/terenc(eh-ttp://www.xxlmag.com/video/2013/04/big- jordan-1-retro-high-og-black-toe/) (http://www.xxlmag.com/rap- nance-finally-defines-beauty-with- k-r-i-t-on-taco-bell-i-dont-like-that- AIR JORDAN 1 RETRO HIGH OG music/bangers/2013/05/the-dream- oversimplification/) TERENCE doritos-shit/) BIG K.R.I.T. I know it wasn’t easy hearing me complain over school breaks about the amount of work I had to do. Mom – thank you for all of the help and guidance you have provided. There aren’t enough words to express how grateful I am to you for helping me navigate this thesis. Dad – thank you for helping me find my love of basketball, without you I would have never found my passion. Jon – although your constant reminders about my thesis over winter break were annoying you really helped me keep on track, so thank you for that.

Most infants require only enough O2 to maintain SpO2 between 87% to 92%, usually achieved with PaO2 of 40 to 60 mmHg, if pH is normal. Patients with pulmonary hypertension may require a much higher PaO2. B. With tracheal suctioning, it may be necessary to raise the inspired O2 temporarily. This should not be ordered routinely but only when the infant needs it. These orders are good for only 24h. OXYGEN DELIVERY and MEASUREMENT: A. Oxygen blenders allow O2 concentration to be adjusted between 21% and 100%. B. Head Hoods permit non-intubated infants to breathe high concentrations of humidified oxygen. Without a silencer they can be very noisy. C. Nasal Cannulae allow non-intubated infants to breathe high O2 concentrations and to be less encumbered than with a head hood. O2 flows of 0.25-0.5 L/min are usually sufficient to meet oxygen needs.

  • Basquiat and the Bayou,’ the No
The Times-Picayune October 20, 2014 GAGOSIAN GALLERY ‘Basquiat and the Bayou,’ the No. 1 Prospect.3 art festival stop in New Orleans Doug MacCash Franklin Sirmans, artistic director, Prospect.3 international art festival in New Orleans (Photo by Doug MacCash / NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune) Though he died at age 27 in 1988, artist Jean-Michel Basquiat remains among the brightest of American art stars. For a short time, he was a street artist in New York’s burgeoning 1970s graffiti scene. His tag, SAMO, became a graffiti icon. Not long after, Basquiat climbed to the highest rungs of the rarified Manhattan art world, eventually even collaborating on paintings with pop legend Andy Warhol. His celebrity was almost unparalleled among visual artists. His expressionist paintings now hang in museums across the globe and sell for tens of millions. Reebok recently released a line of athletic shoes decorated with Basquiat images. A suite of nine of Basquiat’s artworks based on Southern themes has been assembled for the first time ever on the Ogden Museum of Southern Art’s fifth floor. The exhibit, “Basquiat and the Bayou,” is certain to be the most popular stop during the Prospect.3 art festival that opens Oct. 25 and continues through Jan. 25, 2015. Franklin Sirmans, the artistic director of Prospect.3, has studied Basquiat for years. During a visit to the Ogden on Saturday (Oct. 18), Sirmans explained the amazing persistence of the artist’s popularity. Basquiat, as part of the New York graffiti and club scene in the 1970s and ‘80s, became a link to the beginnings of hip-hop culture, Sirmans said.

  • Musical Segregation in American College Football
Journal of the Society for American Music (2020), Volume 14, Number 3, pp. 337–363 © The Society for American Music 2020 doi:10.1017/S175219632000022X “This Is Ghetto Row”: Musical Segregation in American College Football JOHN MICHAEL MCCLUSKEY Abstract A historical overview of college football’s participants exemplifies the diversification of main- stream American culture from the late nineteenth century to the twenty-first. The same can- not be said for the sport’s audience, which remains largely white American. Gerald Gems maintains that football culture reinforces the construction of American identity as “an aggres- sive, commercial, white, Protestant, male society.” Ken McLeod echoes this perspective in his description of college football’s musical soundscape, “white-dominated hard rock, heavy metal, and country music—in addition to marching bands.” This article examines musical segregation in college football, drawing from case studies and interviews conducted in 2013 with university music coordinators from the five largest collegiate athletic conferences in the United States. These case studies reveal several trends in which music is used as a tool to manipulate and divide college football fans and players along racial lines, including special sections for music associated with blackness, musical selections targeted at recruits, and the continued position of the marching band—a European military ensemble—as the musical representative of the sport. These areas reinforce college football culture as a bastion of white strength despite the diversity among player demographics. College football is one of the many public stages on which mainstream American culture diversified between the late nineteenth and the twenty-first centuries.
