    2011 RAGIN ’ CAJUNS SOFTBALL Brooke Mitchell 2010 Hall of Fame Inductee Brooke Mitchell was a pitcher for the Cajuns from 2002-05 and had arguably the best season ever by a Cajuns hurler in 2004. Mitchell was named First Team NFCA All-American as well as CoSIDA Academic All- American in that season. She was also Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year and Most Outstanding Player while picking up Louisiana Pitcher of the Year honors. Mitchell went 45-5 in 2004, becoming just the 12th player in NCAA history to win at least 40 games. She posted a 0.82 ERA including a school and Sun Belt record 524 strikeouts. She threw five no-hitters and posted a complete-game shutout to eliminate No.1 Arizona in NCAA Regionals. Overall in her career, Mitchell was a four-time All-Sun Belt selection and three times an NFCA All-Region performer. She was also named CoSIDA Academic All-American on two different occasions. She is also the only player in Sun Belt history to win three Pitcher of the Year awards. She finished her career with a 119-27 record while posting a 1.09 ERA and 1,309 strikeouts. It took a while, but the search may fi­ nally be over. Senior right-hander Greg Connolly emerged as die Gaucho set-up man out of the bullpen this weekend with two superb relief performances, helping Santa Barbara to 6-5 and 11-6 victories over the University of the Pacific Fri­ day and Saturday at Stockton’s Billy Herbert Field. UCSB (24-16-1,6-9) took two of three in the Big West Conference series with the Tigers after losing the first game Thursday. UOP is 15-26 overall, 5-16 against conference opponents. Connolly relieved starter Steve Lane on Friday in the sixth inning with the Gauchos trailing 5-2, and pitched two perfect innings while Santa Barbara staged a comeback. UCSB shortstop Danny Lane crashed a two-run homer, his sixth of the year, to cut the lead to 5-4. Lane then hit a two- run single in the ninth to drive in the game-winning runs, redeeming a costly error he made earlier in the game. Ben­ nett (2-1) relieved Connolly to pick up the victory.
