2 ABOUT ST. LOUIS EARTH DAY MISSION St. Louis Earth Day empowers you and your community to create and celebrate a greener St. Louis, every day, through Recycling On the Go, the Green Dining Alliance, Earth Day Action Grants, and our Festival.

PROGRAMS The St. Louis Earth Day Festival is just one of several programs that our organization manages throughout the year. Read more about the exciting work we do to make Earth Day every day : RECYCLING ON THE GO What started as the region’s first large-scale event recycling program has grown into a popular and widely-utilized event-greening service offering comprehensive consultancy and implementation services. Our goal is to reduce the negative environmental impact of events and festivals, principally by reducing and recycling a portion of the waste they generate.

GREEN DINING ALLIANCE This program is committed to working with St. Louis restaurants to reduce their environmental impact. The GDA considers all areas of operations and puts strong emphasis on reducing, recycling and composting restaurant waste as well as sourcing sustainable food, to-go ware and cleaning supplies. www.greendiningalliance.org

EARTH DAY ACTION GRANTS This spring we awarded a total of $10,000 to 8 different projects. These small grants provide an opportunity for people, groups and nonprofit organizations to “take action” on environmental issues and implement projects on Earth Day or throughout the year.

4 ST. LOUIS EARTH DAY FESTIVAL ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

St. Louis Earth Day is committed to utilizing the best options for ensuring a memorable event with as little environmental impact as possible. Here are just a few ways that we honor our commitment to environmental stewardship. WASTE

Styrofoam is so last century – that’s why we’ve banned polystyrene/#6 plastic from the Festival for the past nine years and have never looked back. This material is rarely recycled and never breaks down in a landfill.

We’ve also banned bottled water because of its environment impact. Fill up at one of the water stations indicated on the map and check out the water wagon, provided by the City of St. Louis. Look for our NEW blue flags to find water filling stations!

Take your waste to one of the dozen Waste Sorting Stations where volunteers will help you figure out what is recyclable, compostable or headed for the landfill.

TRANSPORTATION We are pleased to offer two FREE bike valets, brought to you by Trailnet. Bike stations will be available for parking all day, to encourage seasoned and “green” cyclists alike.

Park at St. Louis Community College Forest Park campus and ride over on a free shuttle, provided by the City of St. Louis and St. Louis Lambert Airport and powered by biodiesel or compressed natural gas – avoid traffic and idling!

5 The Recycling On the Go program is funded through a grant from the St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste Management District and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. ENERGY Ameren Missouri Pure Power has donated 254 Wind Power Renewable Energy Certificates to match the energy and travel for the 2018 St. Louis Earth Day event. By greening this event with 254,000 KWh from renewable energy, we are reducing the electricity carbon footprint by 411,269 pounds of CO2.

Generators donated by Green2Go, an innovative new generator rental program of propane-fueled generators – a new approach to electrifying events. These generators produce nearly 75% fewer emissions compared to standard diesel generators. Propane is donated by the Missouri Propane Gas Association.

PURCHASING Event t-shirts are 100% organic cotton, grown and produced in the USA, and designed and printed locally ($15). Available online at www.stlouisearthday.org or at our merchandise booth.

Our promotional materials are printed on American-made, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, 100% post-consumer recycled paper. Our local printer, The Advertisers Printing Company, uses soy and solvent-free inks and emission-free coatings. They hold Rainforest Alliance and Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP) certifications and offset 100% of their energy use through Ameren Missouri’s Pure Power® program.

Loving the Earth means preserving it. Subaru, America’s first “zero landfill” automaker, and the St. Louis Subaru retailers proudly support St. Louis Earth Day and Recycling On the Go. For more information about Subaru’s commitment to the environment, visit us at the Subaru display at the Earth Day Festival. Love. It’s what makes a Subaru, a Subaru.

4 HANDS BREWERY www.4handsbrewery.com Our Earth Day Mission is to better our everyday practices in both a sustainable and sufficient manner. We cultivate relationships within our city by working with local artisans and organizations when possible. We love our city and it’s important to us that we help it thrive! At our booth, we will be selling 16 ounce cans and draft of our spring/summer seasonals along with City Wide. Relax in the beer garden or enjoy a game of bags. ANHEUSER-BUSCH SEED TO SIP www.anheuser-busch.com Anheuser-Busch beers are made with less water than ever before. From the barley seed, to the field, to cleaning up rivers and lakes, to reducing the water used in our breweries, Anheuser-Busch is committed to conserving and protecting water at every step. At our booth you will learn more about all of A-B’s conservation efforts. PERENNIAL ARTISAN ALES www.perennialbeer.com Our philosophy is to brew beer with the adventurous craft beer drinker in mind—focusing on hand-crafted, small batches of beer, using local, seasonal and organic ingredients as much as possible. Our beers are influenced mostly by Belgian and American craft styles, but the addition of premium ingredients such as fruits, spices, or wild yeast strains sometimes causes the beers to defy traditional categories. At our booth we will be selling some of our favorite styles of beer. 9 WHERE’S THE BEER?

SCHLAFLY www.schlafly.com At Schlafly Beer, we are continuously striving to reduce our carbon footprint. With conscious efforts, like locally sourcing packaging and labeling, we have changed the way we as a company use energy and give back to the environment. By using 100 percent renewable energy, minimizing waste from our facilities and so much more, we’ve long set the standard for green practices in the craft beer industry. At our booth we’ll be sampling White Lager. URBAN CHESTNUT BREWING CO. www.urbanchestnut.com As we endeavor to create our high-quality offerings of lagers & ales, we also strive to be respected for our actions as a business member of the St. Louis community. We like to call these actions “Urban Efforts” – intentional measures undertaken by Urban Chestnut to help us to be a better global and local citizen. We take pride in finding new and exciting ways to reduce and/or supplement our usage of all of the resources necessary in our operation! At our booth we will be selling a variety of seasonal and year round UCBC beer styles. All beer will be served in 360 top, recyclable cans.
