(028) 2827 2258 PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE The Eighteenth NORTHERN IRELAND OPEN ACCORDION CHAMPIONSHIPS held in the Belfast Loughshore Hotel Carrickfergus (formerly known as the Clarion) on Saturday 28 February 2015 were another huge success with reaction from spectators and competitors alike being very favourable towards the festival which ran like clockwork in a relaxed and friendly spirit. Organised by Clyde Johnston it is the largest accordion festival held in Northern Ireland and attracted a record 240 entries. The Championships are recognised by the National Accordion Organisation of the United Kingdom as a qualifier for the UK Championships, held later in the year in Liverpool and Clyde was delighted to again welcome competitors from the Chilton School of Music in Co.Cavan and Gerry Kelly’s Accordion School from Co Meath. There were also other entries from Co.Meath, Co.Dublin, Southern England and Glasgow in addition to the local competitors and trade stands by Rolston Accordions and Rob Howard which greatly enhanced the Festival. The adjudicators were Ivan Black, Audrey Gillian and Philip Hammond. They were greatly impressed not only by the high standard of playing but also with the smooth and efficient manner in which the Championships were run.     Ulster-Scots Covid-19 Resilience Fund List of Grant Awards The Ulster-Scots Agency delivered the Ulster-Scots Covid-19 Resilience Fund in Northern Ireland in collaboration with the Department for Communities. There were three categories of grant within the fund: (i) Small Grants of up to £3k made available to Ulster-Scots groups to support running costs and Covid-19 safety. Groups could apply for up to £1k towards running costs, with the balance going on Covid-19 safety. (ii) Language Grants of up to £10k made available to help groups with a track record working on the Ulster-Scots language to produce materials for online distribution. (iii) Larger Group Grants of up to £30k made available to larger groups with a strong track record of Ulster-Scots activity, which could show that they had lost earned income as a result of Covid-19.
