The Husby Riots in Stockholm
The Husby riots in Stockholm By Kristoffer Eriksson Today's riots and frustration in Husby (Stockholm) is a sign that something is not good in the Swedish system. They are those who are trying to gain cheap and populist points from the riots in Husby. But, there is a "Swedish tradition" of those in Sweden who are at the bottom of the Swedish social hierarchy to rebel or show their displeasure. The population of Scania (Skåne), Dalecarlia (Dalarna), Smolandia (Småland), Halland, Finns, peasants, workers, statare1, etc.. they all have rebelled against injustice in the Swedish society. The list is long: the Engelbrecht rebellion in 1434; the Peasant uprisings in Finland in 1438; the Dalarna uprisings in1524-1525, 1527-1528, 1531-1533; the Dacke rising 1542; Lappvesi peasant uprising (at that time, the Swedish South Karelia) 1551-1553; the Cudgel War (Finnish Ostrobothnia) 1596: The Great dalecarlian dance in 1743; the Klågerup riots 1811: the Hunger and military demonstrations in 1917; the Möllevång riots in 1926; the Ådalen shootings in 1931; the Berzelli riots 1951: the Battle of Hötorget Square in 1965; the Hötorget Square riots in 1965; the Gothenburg riots in 2001: the riots in Rosengård in 2008, and now the Husby riots in 2013. These are just a few, the list is even longer. The riots in Rosengård 2008 and now in Husby are no new phenomenon in Swedish history. Since Sweden emerged as a nation sometime in 1000-1200's, those who have found themselves at the bottom of the Swedish social hierarchy, the most socially vulnerable, oppressed and disadvantaged, have rebelled against injustice. -

The Viruan (Middle Ordovician) of Öland
The Viruan (Middle Ordovician) of Öland By Valdar Jaanusson ABSTRACT.-The stratigraphy and lithology of the Viruan (Middle Ordovician) Iimestones of the bed-rock of Öland are described based on three bares and on field work in the outcrop area. A combined litho- and bio-stratigraphic classification (termed topo-stratigraphic) is introduced for the described sequence. The names of the Estonian stages (Aserian, Lasnamägian, Uhakuan, and Kukrusean) are used as chrono-stratigraphic references instead of the previous Swedish names of the units of stage category (Platyurus, Schroeteri, Crassicauda, and Ludibundus, re spectivcly). New topo-stratigraphic divisions are Segerstad Limestone (of Aserian age), Skärlöv, Seby, and Folkeslunda Limestones (of Lasnamägian age), Furudal, Källa, and Persnäs Lime stones (of Uhakuan age), and Dalby Limestone (of Kukrusean age in the bed-rock of Öland). The Aserian Lasnamägian topo-stratigraphic divisions have the same lithological characteris and tics throughout Öland. The Uhakuan beds are developed as calcilutites (Furudal Limestone) on southern Öland continuing as a tongue (Källa Limestone) on northern Öland. The middle and upper part of the Uhakuan beds of northern Öland consist of calcarenites (Persnäs Limestone) lithologically indistiguishable from the Kukrusean Dalby Limestone which forms the bed-rock only on northern Öland. Within the Segerstad Limestone two zones are distinguished (z. of Angelinoceras latum and z. of Illaenus planifrons).H ouvr ' s zones of Lituites discors, L. lituus, and L. perfectus are of Lasna mägian age, and their stratigraphic position and fauna! characteristics are described. Comments Received for ISO 639-3 Change Request 2015-046 Outcome
Comments received for ISO 639-3 Change Request 2015-046 Outcome: Accepted after appeal Effective date: May 27, 2016 SIL International ISO 639-3 Registration Authority 7500 W. Camp Wisdom Rd., Dallas, TX 75236 PHONE: (972) 708-7400 FAX: (972) 708-7380 (GMT-6) E-MAIL: [email protected] INTERNET: http://www.sil.org/iso639-3/ Registration Authority decision on Change Request no. 2015-046: to create the code element [ovd] Ӧvdalian . The request to create the code [ovd] Ӧvdalian has been reevaluated, based on additional information from the original requesters and extensive discussion from outside parties on the IETF list. The additional information has strengthened the case and changed the decision of the Registration Authority to accept the code request. In particular, the long bibliography submitted shows that Ӧvdalian has undergone significant language development, and now has close to 50 publications. In addition, it has been studied extensively, and the academic works should have a distinct code to distinguish them from publications on Swedish. One revision being added by the Registration Authority is the added English name “Elfdalian” which was used in most of the extensive discussion on the IETF list. Michael Everson [email protected] May 4, 2016 This is an appeal by the group responsible for the IETF language subtags to the ISO 639 RA to reconsider and revert their earlier decision and to assign an ISO 639-3 language code to Elfdalian. The undersigned members of the group responsible for the IETF language subtag are concerned about the rejection of the Elfdalian language. There is no doubt that its linguistic features are unique in the continuum of North Germanic languages. -

De Sammansatta Ordens Accentuering I Skånemålen
SKRIFTER UTGIVNA AV INSTITUTIONEN FÖR NORDISKA SPRÅK VID UPPSALA UNIVERSITET 88 MATHIAS STRANDBERG De sammansatta ordens accentuering i Skånemålen With a summary: Tonal Word Accent and Stress in Compound Words in Traditional Scanian Dialects 2014 Akademisk avhandling som för avläggande av filosofie doktorsexamen i nordiska språk vid Uppsala universitet kommer att offentligt försvaras i Ihresalen, Engelska parken, Uppsala, lördagen den 29 mars 2014, kl. 10.15. Disputationen sker på svenska. Abstract Strandberg, M., 2014: De sammansatta ordens accentuering i Skånemålen. (Tonal Word Accent and Stress in Compound Words in Traditional Scanian Dialects.) Skrifter utgivna av Institutionen för nordiska språk vid Uppsala universitet 88. 209 pp. Uppsala. ISSN 0083-4661, ISBN 978-91-506-2386-4. Swedish has a contrast between two so-called tonal word accents: accent 1 and accent 2. In central standard Swedish, for example, compound words generally have accent 2 and primary stress on the first element. In contrast, traditional Scanian dialects exhibit both a high occur- rence of accent 1 in compounds and dialect geographic variation between accent 2 and second element stress. This dissertation argues in favour of four diachronically oriented hypotheses pertaining to the word accent distribution in compounds with monosyllabic first elements in these dialects: (1) compounds emanating from syntactic juxtapositions have accent 1; (2) compounds formed by way of compounding proper (stem compounds and comparable formations) have accent 2 or second-element stress; (3) compounds of either of these two types do, however, have ac- cent 1 if the first element was originally disyllabic and has lost its posttonic syllable through syncope; (4) West Germanic loanwords have accent 1. -

Dialekt Där Den Nästan Inte Finns En Folklingvistisk Studie Av Dialektens Sociala Betydelse I Ett Standardspråksnära Område
SKRIFTER UTGIVNA AV INSTITUTIONEN FÖR NORDISKA SPRÅK VID UPPSALA UNIVERSITET 98 JANNIE TEINLER Dialekt där den nästan inte finns En folklingvistisk studie av dialektens sociala betydelse i ett standardspråksnära område With a summary: Dialect where it almost doesn’t exist: A folk linguistic study of the social meaning of a dialect close to the standard language 2016 Dissertation presented at Uppsala University to be publicly examined in Ihresalen, Engelska parken, Thunbergsvägen 3L, Uppsala, Saturday, 12 November 2016 at 10:15 for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. The examination will be conducted in Swedish. Faculty examiner: Rune Røsstad (Universitetet i Agder, Institutt for nordisk og mediefag). Abstract Teinler, J. 2016. Dialekt där den nästan inte finns. En folklingvistisk studie av dialektens sociala betydelse i ett standardspråksnära område. (Dialect where it almost doesn’t exist. A folk linguistic study of the social meaning of a dialect close to the standard language). Skrifter utgivna av Institutionen för nordiska språk vid Uppsala universitet 98. 295 pp. Uppsala: Institutionen för nordiska språk. ISBN 978-91-506-2597-4. By approaching dialect and standard language from a folk linguistic perspective, this thesis aims to investigate how laypeople perceive, talk about and orient towards dialect and standard language in a dialect area close to the perceived linguistic and administrative centre of Sweden. It consequently focuses on dialect and standard language as socially meaningful entities, rather than as sets of linguistic features, and studies a dialect area as it is understood by those who identify with it. To explore these issues, group interviews, a set of quantitative tests among adolescents and a ‘mental mapping’ task were used. -
