Can I ask you all to make a New Year’s resolution to write at least one piece for your Bulletin? Spring Meeting – May 9th 2010 The Society meeting next year will take place on Sunday 9th May 2010 between 2pm and 5pm at the Hilton Hotel, ground floor meeting room, right next to The London International Stamp Fair - Festival of Stamps, being held at the Islington Business Design Centre, the home of Stampex. A map is shown opposite.. SECRETARY/TREASURER The Society recently advertised in all the UK stamp magazines which has resulted in many new members, and reminded the philatelic world that we are still here. The Society accounts are published and I have attempted to make income and expenditure much clearer than before. Our Society remains financially healthy and I can see no reason for any increase in subscription. The decision by Jeff Turnbull to take over the printing of Society publications himself has proved successful and is now in profit, thank you Jeff. Our Internet PayPal account has been very successful and is being used by members worldwide, even including those in the UK! With Christmas & the New Year approaching may I take this opportunity to wish everyone the best, a big thank you to my fellow officers for the very many hours you devote to the Society, and of course the members who support us. -

The past 12 months have once again given us many opportunities to venture forth in our old vehicles, or enjoy the company of fellow enthusiasts without them. Indeed, the company is every bit as important as the cars and motor cycles, but the latter do act as wonderful catalysts to meet and mix with the very finest people. The Committee has again been responsible for organizing marvellous runs and evening meetings. The latter has seen a range of interests covered which have invariably turned out to be both entertaining and informative. During the course of the year, Committee Members Gavin McNeil and David Bishop resigned and have been missed by the remaining Committee. I would like to take this opportunity to say a very heart-felt thank you to two ladies who contribute enormously to the Club. Firstly, our Minutes Secretary for the Committee meetings, Cathy Jackson, who does not make it to our monthly meetings. Secondly, and for the general Members her contribution is far more noticeable, our very own supper lady, Trish Keane. -

Science Museum Library and Archives Hackpen Lane Wroughton Swindon SN4 9LT ARCH : BIGGS Material relating to the work of T J Biggs on early cars, motorcycles and bicycles Compiled by Deborah Walker Edited by Robert Sharp Writing in 1915 TJ Biggs described some of the highlights of his varied career: TJ Biggs served his apprenticeship with Messrs. E S Hindley & Sons of Bourton, Dorset 1892-97 First Draughtsman employed by the Raleigh Company under the Woodhead and Angois regime. Designed the machine upon which Zimmerman created such sensations. Later under the Bassett and Milla management designed the line of open and cross framed singles and tandems upon which the Raleigh company established such a reputation. Left the Raleigh company to design the Ascot bicycle, and the works in which to produce it, for A C Hills Ltd. The Ascot Bicycle set quite a new fashion in cycle design. Few months on "Cycle Referee" Served apprenticeship on De Dion motor Tricycle pur- chased from the late Guy Lewin. In partnership with Frederick Eastmead, spent four to five years building Eastmead & Biggs cars, making more history than money. In 1904 entered upon his third engagement with the Raleigh Company to build a 10 hp car which was not marketed. Left Raleigh for Humbers at Beeston. Designed T.T. Racers of 1906-7 and 4" Racer of 1908. 1909 Migrated to Coventry Works with the rest of the Beeston staff. Invited to T C Pullinger to join his Arrol-Johnston venture at Paisley. Produced 15.9, 11.9 and 23.9 cars also Coupe de l'Auto and Grand Prix Racers of 1910-11 & 12 and first engine with aluminium crankcase and water jacket as now employed in Aero Engines. -

1967 2017 Journal of the Traditional Car Club of Doncaster April/May2017 1 Dear Members, EDITORIAL I have volunteered to take over editing the Tradsheet and time will tell whether it is a good idea or not. I will start with the Traditional encouragement to members to write a piece for the magazine. I would like to feature members’ cars, or whatever vehicle you have, as they are the most interesting. What have you got, is it standard or have you modified it to make it easier to start or drive, or because it looks nicer, what do you like about your car? At club nights and shows there is a big variety of cars and we are interested in all of them, they are real not like the dream cars featured on TV programmes. It would be nice to get a piece, long or short, about your car preferably with a photo. My email address is :- [email protected] but you can give me a piece of paper at a club night if you like. Obviously, articles on anything else vehicle related will be welcome. In this edition we have the events pages, club and more general, for you to come along and join in. Breakfast meetings are becoming ever more popular, they give us an opportunity to meet in different venues and in daylight and a good time is had by all. In fact, Barry and the Redhouse Park posse, my son and I managed to go to Ashworth Bar- racks a month early in February instead of March leading to an unusually small, but very select, gathering.
