Perhaps, as Prial suggests, Hammond’s relationship to the Vanderbilts did him more good in his early years in music than his social skills. There are questions unanswered and undeveloped in this biography related to Hammond the man, such as his falling out with Aretha Franklin or his quick parting with Dylan. Each chapter of this book comes (another assault on your pocketbook) with a wonderful ‘‘discography’’ that should slow down the pace of reading but will contribute to a great start in building a library of American music of the 20th century. It is quite something how much music Hammond had a role in, and this portion of the book is an important reminder of the times and genres Hammond touched. As with all biographies there are problems and limitations. For those of us raised in the second half of the century, The Producer fails to deliver the same magic surrounding the discovery and signing of ‘‘our’’ heroes as it does around the early stars.

  • Bill Bruford Interview
With Io Pages, Holland, November 2007 1. With Absolute Elsewhere, Pavlov’s Dog, Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, UK and Bruford you worked together with the best of the progressive rock scene. With Earthworks you deliver pure jazz. Was it because you tried to inject jazz within the rock format that you joined the aforementioned bands ? Or were you looking for musicians who would constantly deliver battles what complexity is concerned ? Last sentence doesn’t make sense, but generally I get the drift. When I was 18, I didn’t have any set plan, other than to join a group – any group – and get playing. We didn’t care about fine distinctions between jazz and rock – everthing was in a state of flux anyway. I knew jazz, which meant I was likely to be good at rock. I wasn’t trying to inject jazz, but naturally, in a collective where everyone is contributing, you bring what you know; you draw on your background, which, in my case, was jazz. I was, I believe, about the only prog-rocker who knew anything about that subject at all. Rick Wakeman, for example, has to my certain knowledge, never played a note of jazz in his life. 2. Your early influences are Max Roach for his economy, grace and melody, Joe Morello for the odd metres and Art Blakey for sound and grooves. Was/is it your ambition to contain all of those elements within your own playing ? Are there any current drummers which get close to the complete picture ? Only in retrospect, and for the sake of simplicity in interviews such as this, have I been forced to reduce all my influences to Blakey, Roach, and Morello.

  • UK World Tour 2012
© bCM UK “Night After Night 2012” World Tour EDDIE JOBSON - JOHN WETTON - TERRY BOZZIO In a rare opportunity to see a group of true music pioneers, legendary progressive-rock supergroup ‘UK’ have reformed for a one-off world tour and will perform in the USA and Canada for the first time in more than three decades. Originally formed in England in 1977 by keyboardist and electric-violinist Eddie Jobson (Roxy Music, Frank Zappa); vocalist and bassist John Wetton (King Crimson); guitarist Allan Holdsworth (Soft Machine); and drummer Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson, Genesis), UK represented the final statement of the classic progressive-rock era - first with their ground-breaking eponymous debut album, and then as a trio with drummer Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa) with their influential “Danger Money” album (1978) followed by the band’s swan song “Night After Night” (1979) live album, recorded during their last tour of Japan. Now, 33 years after their farewell concert, the three legendary players of the original trio - Jobson, Wetton, & Bozzio - have reunited to reenact that final tour one last time. The music of UK has influenced progressive bands from Yes to Rush; guitar heroes from Malmsteen to Vai; and hard-rock bands from Van Halen to Dream Theater, leaving the individual members of UK with unsurpassed reputations as the definitive “musicians’ musicians.” © bCM EDDIE JOBSON EDDIE JOBSON’s recognition has been almost exclusively from those ‘in the know.‘ Musicians, music journalists, composers, producers, and knowledgeable fans from more than 50 countries revere his work and consider him a true music innovator and a pioneering figure in the development of early synthesizers, electric violin, progressive-rock, art-rock, computer graphics (he produced and starred in MTV’s very first CGI music video), computer recording, new age, electronica, and contemporary world music.

  • 2007 on Time
Mike Haid interview on “Time” for Modern Drummer 2007 1) What does a drummers “time” mean to the feel of the music? Plenty. For the average listener, the effect of an individual drummer’s time on the music is mostly subliminal, but none the less powerful for that. When James Taylor uses Steve Gadd for a sublimely relaxing evening of his material, my wife is going to enjoy “the feel” of the music, and thus probably the “feel” of the whole evening.. If he’d used Paul Motion or the guy from Meshuggah--guys with a different sense of time-- she’d have got a different, and maybe less appropriate feel for the music. The leader is trying to find a drummer who will impart the correct time, and thus feel, for the music. 2) How do you deal with working with various time feels of other musicians? Within reason, I start swimming the way everyone else is swimming. If you play with the Drummers of Dakhar, no-one’s talking about the beat being pushed, pulled, laid back, rushed. Your participation in the beat that day is offered, join with us, or don’t. It’s a social thing, as indeed I think all music making should be. There is nothing right or wrong about it. Its like breathing. Basically, whatever makes the music work. 3) Behind the beat, on the beat, on top of the beat, pushed, pulled, laidback, dragged, rushed; How does your body clock naturally feel the time? My body clock is too busy dealing with jet-lag.

  • YES Biography
BIOGRAPHY ****** BIOGRAPHY ****** BIOGRAPHY YES Biography In 2021 YES signed a deal with progressive label Inside Out Music and announced that a new album, their first for seven years, is released on 1st October. The Quest is a strong collection of collaborative compositions posing the great questions of life and finding that we have our destiny within our own hands. Steve Howe says “(Inside Out boss Thomas Waber) is pretty demanding, you can’t fool Thomas.” “He’s knowledgeable about YES fans, and their expectations. He was not going to be happy until we met those expectations.” The music of YES has endured over the years and has been handed down through generations of music lovers. At Sheffield City Hall, in 2018, one fan described how he had first seen YES play the very same venue more than forty years earlier. He was there with his son who had grown up with the music of YES and was as big a fan as his dad. “That’s nice and I’m so glad that’s true,” Steve Howe reflected. “We weren’t just running round doing things, we were doing things that have lasted. That’s because of the collaborations, it’s the team-work that signifies YES.” Until the global pandemic, YES had been touring annually with their Album Series tours, each tour showcasing one of their classic albums in full together with other favourite concert numbers. During the pandemic YES got together from all corners of the World - Alan & Billy in USA, Steve and Geoff in the UK and Jon between the USA, Barbados and the UK… and started writing and composing music for The Quest.
