TheIndianAntarcticStation,Maitri(70 045′57″S,11 044′09″E)islocatedinthe SchirmacherOasisofEastAntarcticaclosetotheperipheryofthecontinent.Since1990all meteorologicalobservationssuchaspressure,temperature,windspeed/direction, precipitationandtotalglobalsolarradiationetc.,arebeingrecordedatMaitri.

ThreehourlydailysynopticobservationsrecordedatMaitrifortheperiod1990to 2005havebeenusedforcomputationofdaily,monthlyandannualmeanvaluesof temperature,wind,pressure,precipitation,weatherphenomena,cloudingandtotalglobal solarradiation.Inlightofthesecomputationsandregressionanalysis,resultforthese parametersandtheclimatologyofMaitri,SchirmacherOasishasbeendiscussedinthis paper.

AlthoughthelengthofdatarecordsofMaitriareveryshortforinvestigationoftemperature trends,theseriesofannualmeansurfaceairtemperaturehavebeenanalysedfortrend studiesusingleastsquaresregression.Thevaluesshowahighdegreeofinter–annual variability.Thecoefficientofregressionfunctionisstaticallysignificantandcorrespondstoa meandecadalcoolingtrendof0.26 0 Covertheperiod(1990–2005).Theanalysisof temperatureseriesofJanuaryandJuly,indicatesanapparentslightgeneralincreasingtrend overtheperiodoftheorderof0.38 0CintheJanuarymeanmaximumandaverage temperatureswhereasmeanminimumtemperaturesshowsanegativetrend.July temperaturesshowsnegativetrendof0.21 0Cperdecade.
