IVES 2020 Activity Report Activity report ives-openscience.eu li 2020 Key figures A word from 16 the Chairman ACADEMIC MEMBERS 2020 marks the 4th year of IVES’ existence. The unique partnership between academia and industry is best illustrated by the IVES OENO One Science Meeting which aims at presenting and discussing highly relevant topics, sharing experience, expertise and ideas, and developing common strategies to OENO ONE ITR face current and future challenges. For this year’s meeting we were welcomed by Hennessy at Cognac which provided us with the perfect atmosphere for interesting ARTICLES 28 and stimulating exchanges. The positive feedback from the participants encourages 6 LANGUAGES us to continue with this successful platform. At the General Assembly the new journal ~1000 READERS IVES Technical Reviews, destined at wine professionals, was launched. It digests PER MONTH scientific articles and condenses them onto 2 pages thus meeting the needs of the 153 ARTICLES SUBMITTED industry for critical scientific information in a short format. OENO One, the first IVES OIV PRICE journal launched in 2016, continued on its successful way. Its Impact Factor increased 2.831 80 ARTICLES PUBLISHED TECHNICAL IMPACT FACTOR to 2.831, the second highest of all grape-wine journals in only its 4th year of existence. OENO-ONE 1 SPECIAL EDITION TERROIR PUBLICATION MULTI CATEGORIES More articles were published in OENO One than in any other specialized grape-wine journal. All articles published in IVES journals are now free of charge for the readers as well as the authors. Strong relationships with major congresses such as Giesco and Executive Committee Staff Terroir were created which will allow us to further increase the free access to the most recent scientific information. All this was only possible due to the commitment and hard work of our staff which we were able to increase to 3 full-time equivalents, and to the financial support of our members and partners. Always seeking innovative ways to improve and to increase the participation of our members and partners, three work groups addressing current issues and the future strategy of IVES were created.     A Very Brief Introduction to Bordeaux Wines Rick Brusca Vers. 10 December 2014 A “Bordeaux wine” is any wine produced in the Bordeaux region of France, centered on the city of Bordeaux and covering the whole of France’s Gironde Department. Bordeaux has a total vineyard area of over 120,000 hectares, making it the largest wine-growing region in France, and it is generally viewed as the most prestigious wine-producing area in the world. In fact, many consider Bordeaux the birthplace of modern wine culture. It is certainly the leading producer of high-quality red wines in the world. Average Bordeaux years produce over 700 million bottles of wine, ranging from large quantities of everyday table wine, to some of the most expensive and prestigious wines known. About 89% of wine produced in Bordeaux is red (red Bordeaux are often called "clarets" in Great Britain and the U.S.), with sweet white wines (most notably Sauternes), dry whites (usually blending Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon), and also (in much smaller quantities) rosé and sparkling wines (Crémant de Bordeaux) collectively making up the remainder. The climate and soils of Bordeaux are perfect for growing its key wine grape varieties. While the bedrock is well furnished with nutrients and minerals, the topsoil tends to be poor, forcing the roots to grow deep to meet their needs. These deep roots stabilize the vines and allow them to withstand occasional periods of bad weather, including draughts. Elu en 1977 comme conseiller municipal adjoint, il a été maire de la commune de Cantenac de 1983 à 2008. Depuis 2008, il avait été nommé maire honoraire par Eric Boucher. Durant ses mandatures, il a beaucoup œuvré pour la commune de Cantenac pour laquelle il avait un profond attachement, tant par ses origines familiales, que par son activité viticole. Le château Martinens, propriété familiale depuis 1945, fut cédé en fermage au château Lascombes en 2007. Personnalité affable, conviviale et cultivée, Jean-Pierre SEYNAT était apprécié de tous.
