Article & Photos by Bob Atwater & David Yount The largest Political and Historical collectibles show of the year is coming to the Midwest this sum- mer! The American Political Items Collectors (APIC) has scheduled its 2018 National Convention for July 17th-22nd at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 3000 S. Dirksen Parkway in Springfield, Illinois. The American Political Items Collectors is a non- profit membership organization, dedicated to promot- ing the collection, preservation and study of materi- als relating to political campaigns and the presiden- cy. Although the campaign button is the most recognized and widely collected of all cam- paign memorabilia, our members actively search for everything from street banners to vin- tage political ribbons, ferrotypes, glassware, autographs, textiles, canes and torches, posters, medals, pennants, tokens, postcards, novelties, sheet music, pamphlets, local campaign items, and photography. Almost anything that has the image or name of a candidate for any elective office. The National Convention in Springfield, Illinois will include over 225 dealer tables of political and historical items being bought and sold. The show will be open to the public free of any admission fees on Saturday, July 21st from 9 am to 4 pm; and on Sunday, July 22nd from 10 am to 3 pm. On Saturday and Sunday, members of the public can receive free appraisals of their political items and can have them auctioned, if they choose, during one of several sessions scheduled throughout the day, for a small commission fee. Watch as many of the nation's most avid political collectors try to out- bid each other for your items. So now is the time to search those attics, closets, trunks, and basements to find those political rarities and bring them to Springfield (on Saturday or Sunday July 21st- 22nd) to be appraised and/or sold for the highest fair price possible. For additional information on the APIC National Convention or on APIC membership, contact Bob Atwater at [email protected] or phone 309-251-6461. Information is also available on our website: WWW.APIC.US.
