Bodmin Moor Commons Council BODMIN MOOR COMMONS COUNCIL The Bodmin Moor Commons Council Establishment Order 2015 came into force on 1st September 2015. It requires that elections and appointments of members of the Council must take place at the initial meeting of the Council prior to its formal establishment on 4th March 2016. Draft lists of the persons entitled to vote in the elections are now available for inspection and representations can be made about them. There are three lists: active graziers, other commoners and the owners of the commons. All Bodmin Moor commoners and the owners of the commons are invited to inspect and make representations about the draft lists. The draft lists are also available for inspection in person. Please contact the returning officer Julie Dowton 01840261351 or 07703468628. Email: [email protected] The closing date for inspection and representations is Friday 12th February 2016. The returning Officer will also invite nominations in writing for election as members of the Council. The deadline for nominations is 5pm Thursday 25th February 2016. Only persons on the lists are entitled to vote and only for persons in their list, e.g. active graziers can only vote for active graziers. Each commoner has one vote, so where two or more commoners are commoners due to a joint holding, they must nominate one of them to vote. Nominations are invited in writing to the Returning Officer: Mrs J Dowton Trevillians Gate St Clether Launceston PL15 8PU Email: [email protected] The initial meeting of the Council will be held to which all people on the final list will be invited. At this initial meeting the appointment of council members will take place. The meeting will be overseen by the Returning Officer. At that meeting the Returning Officer will be:- • announcing any valid nominations for membership of the council; and • announcing the name of any validly appointed member of the council. If the number of valid nominations is less than the number of vacancies candidates will be declare elected unopposed, e.g. if there are 2 active graziers vacancies on the council but only 2 nominations are received then those nominations will be declared duly elected. However if the number of nominees exceeds the number of vacancies then an election by ballot of people in attendance who are eligible to vote in that section, will take place at the initial meeting. For the election of active graziers two will be elected from each of the eight sections. For the election of non-active graziers one will be elected from each of the four sections. The owners of the commons will be invited to appoint four members to represent the Landowners on the Council. Please view the following lists. • Bodmin Transport Strategy Development
Bodmin Transport Strategy Development Appendix G – Bodmin Strategy May 2017 Bodmin’s Transport Strategy sits within the context of Cornwall Council’s overarching transport strategy, Connecting Cornwall – as set out in more detail in section 2.17. Currently high volumes of traffic and congestion in the centre of Bodmin have resulted in localised congestion and an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) being declared, which can be a barrier to further growth, unless appropriately addressed. There is a strong desire to see housing and economic growth, including the regeneration of the town centre. The proposed transport strategy aims to address current constraints within the town centre through the delivery of strategic junction enhancements to create capacity, while underpinning the sustainable aims set out in the LTP3, through the delivery of a much improved walking and cycling network, as well as an improved public transport offering. To support the enhancement of the town centre, plans are in place to deliver an innovative low speed environment along part of Dennison Road, through Church Square and as far as Shire House on Turf Street. The scheme will enable growth, whilst managing congestion and giving greater emphasis to the needs of pedestrians and cyclists, which in turn will help to manage air quality. Strategic upgrades are also proposed at Launceston Road/ Priory Road junction, Fiveways, Callywith Gate and Respryn to mitigate against the impacts of growth, improve conditions for pedestrians and cyclists and open up land for development, including two urban extensions located on the north-east and south-east of the town. Furthermore, Bodmin has identified an opportunity to promote itself as a cycle town, building on the back of the high quality cycle offerings on the periphery of the town, namely Lanhydrock, the Camel Trail and Cardinham cycle hub.

  • Pigot's 1830 Bodmin & Wadebridge.Docx
Extract from Pigot’s Directory of Cornwall, 1830 (pages 135‐136) Bodmin and Wadebridge Bodmin is a borough, market town and parish, in the hundred of Trigg; 234 miles from London, 62 from Exeter, 60 from the Land’s End, 34 from Falmouth, and six from Lostwithiel. It is situated nearly in the centre of the county, between two hills, and consists chiefly of one long street, running east and west. This town must at one time have been of much more consequence, and greater magnitude, than at the present day; for it formerly contained a priory, cathedral, and thirteen churches or free chapels, of which the foundations and sites of some are still to be distinguished. The present church is the largest in the county, and is handsome within, but externally irregularly built. The living is a vicarage, in the gift of Lord de Dunstanville; and the Rev. J. Wallis is the present incumbent. Here are three chapels for dissenters, and a free grammar school, founded and endowed by Queen Elizabeth. Bodmin must have been very early constituted a borough; for in an ancient record it appears that the burgesses were fined 100 shillings, in the 26th year of Henry II, for setting up a guild without a warrant. The corporate body, as created by the last charter, granted in 1798, consists of a mayor, 12 aldermen, 24 capital burgesses and a recorder. The right of returning members to Parliament is vested in the corporation; the mayor is the returning officer; and the present representatives are, David Gilbert, Esq.
