During 1997, South Korea began to experience a serious financial crisis, including bankruptcies of many of its conglomerates, a drastic depreciation in the international exchange rate of the South Korean currency, and an increasing foreign debt. Currently South Korea is struggling to compete with products from both industrialized nations and newly industrializing nations. The current crisis has occurred as South Korea has been engaged in extensive market-opening. Knowledge is lacking about South Korea's intricate and rapidly changing political and economic climate. The purpose of this research was to explore and clarify the interrelated factors that have contributed to South Korea’s present economic problems, especially those facing South Korea’s retailing industry. -

SEOUL 서울 WOHNORT ich habe in itaewon, yongsan-gu, 1 1/2 h von unserer partneruniversität gewohnt. das war in ordnung, da ich in der nähe aller stadtzentren war. die mietpreise sind ungefähr wie in frankfurt, jedoch werden sie teilweise stetig teurer. die kautionen die man für zimmer bezahlt sollte man auf jeden fall miteinkalkulieren, weil sie bei 500€+ anfangen. eine gute möglichkeit wohnungen zu finden ist craigslist seoul und home to home in facebook. TRANSPORT wenn man in seoul ist sollte man sich eine tmoney karte kaufen, die funktioniert wie eine pre-paidkarte und ist immer wieder aufladbar. jede fahrt kostet umgerechnet ungefähr 1€ und hält für eine 1h, alle 30 min kommt wieder eine minimale gebühr dazu. züge sind nie zu spät. UNIVERSITÄT: DUKSUNG WOMENS UNIVERSITY die universität liegt sehr weit oben im norden neben dem national park - es ist sehr schön da. sie ist eine frauenuniversität aber für ausländische studierende ist es möglich sich auch als mann zu bewerben. sie ist sehr schulisch und bietet kurse die sich von ihrer aufmachung sehr zu uns unterscheiden. für kunst nicht zu empfehlen, jedoch wenn das interesse an der koreanischen sprache da ist, kann man dort koreanisch lernen. ich habe dort ein halbes jahr modedesign gemacht und einen koreanisch kurs für anfänger belegt. die lehrkräfte waren sehr aufmerksam, hilfreich und zuvorkommend. ich hatte keine probleme an der universität - vorallem das büro für internationale angelegenheiten war unglaublich sweet. es gibt kurse die extra für auslandsstudierende angeboten werden, diese sind auf englisch (zum beispiel korean popculture, korean movies and culture oder korean language). -

After the success of Mao Zedong's communist revolution in 1949, the authorities clamped down hard on Shanghai, castigating China's second city for its prewar status as a playground of gangsters and colonial adventurers. On a sunny afternoon, the winding lanes of Seoul’s most famous district of hanok, or traditional wooden houses, are in danger of being overrun. Couples crowd tim- ber doorways festooned with fading calligraphy or gleaming brass, and tour groups line up to pose against the backdrop that has in- spired a million Instagram posts—a sea of delicately fared tile roofs cascading gently downhill toward the ofce towers of the city center. Indeed, Bukchon Hanok Village has grown so popular that the local government deploys marshals to remind noisy tourists that despite its toy-town appearance, this is a living, breathing residential area. For the inhabitants, the patterned stone walls that hide most of these lovely homes from view may not feel nearly high enough. Yet interest in hanok is a very recent phenomenon, among lo- cals and tourists alike. The art and proliferation of the Korean-style house reached an apex during the Joseon Dynasty from the 14th to 19th centuries, but the tumultuous years of Japanese occupation, fratricidal war, and rapid industrial development that followed were tough ones for old buildings, hanok included.
