A Hydrographic Approach to the Alps

North Sea], or from E. toW. as [North Sea . w. Adriatic]. The Basic Watershed, which also answers to the title [Po ~ w. This gives two Basic Sections of very unequal dimensions, but the ., Alps being of natural origin cannot be expected to fall into more or less equal com partments. Two rather less unbalanced sections could be obtained by differentiating Ticino.- and Adda-drainage on the Po-side, but this would exhibit both hydrographic and Alpine inferiority. Communication and Dissemination Plan
BELLUNO PILOT AREAS REPORT INTRODUCTION FUTOURIST is pursuing new and innovative approaches satisfying the increasing demand of a natural tourism and the need of people to live a really intense experience among nature. The project faces the growing importance of sustainable activities to guarantee a soft tourism and the economic and social stability of a region. It also promotes an untouched landscape, as a base for an almost natural tourism. The project aims at municipalities, locations and regions that are less exploited by tourism and are located outside of conservation areas such as the National Park and Nature Parks. To realize the goals of FUTOURIST, that were approved by the authority, the following requirements were defined in the first step of the process of pilot region identification. • Presence of characteristic and special natural and/or cultural landscapes or features that are suitable “to be put in scene”; • Relation to locals who are engaged in conserving natural and/or cultural landscapes or features and/or are interested in communicating and transmitting knowledge or experience • Location outside of existing conservation areas • Perspective to pursue a nature-compatible and eco-friendly tourism that is in harmony with nature • Absence of hard touristic infrastructure and touristic exploitation Project partners defined 20 criteria in the categories morphology & infrastructure, nature & culture, tourism, economy and players for the selection of the potential pilot areas in order to guarantee sustainability to the project and ensure continuation of the activities. FUTOURIST provides for the identification in the province of Belluno of three experimental area that better respond to these criteria and in which sustainable tourism can be practiced The needs of the local stakeholders have been gathered during various meetings, the analysis and the drafting developed by DMO Dolomiti and the presentation of the plan commissioned at Eurac Research have been taken into consideration. -

Arrival and check-in at our family-run partner hotel in the Pragser Tal valley. Private transfer from the airport/station can be booked separately on request. Day 2: Plätzwiese plateau, Strudelkopf mountain and Pragser Wildsee lake We begin the week in the Pragser Tal valley, with a hike that takes us on to the Strudelkopf mountain with its unparalleled panoramic views, and to the famous Plätzwiese high plateau, where we enjoy lunch in a typical alpine hut at 2000 m above sea level. And not to be missed either, of course, is the absolute highlight of the Pragser Tal valley - the Pragser Wildsee lake, with its emerald-green waters set against the magnificent backdrop of the Seekofel mountain. Day 3: Alta Badia: the culture of the Ladin valleys. The third day takes us to the heart of the Dolomites - into the Ladin Alta Badia (Hochabteital) valley. On the course of our hike, we learn all sorts of things about the Ladin culture, language and tradition. At a farmhouse that somehow manages to bridge the gap perfectly between past and future, we can expect a culinary highlight: an artful new interpretation of the traditional South Tyrolean Marende - an afternoon snack with home-grown and home-made Ladin specialities. -

This new edition has changed in look and organization while maintaining its original, well received characteristics. The availability of substantial new material and the desire to integrate the inevitable corrections, some purely editorial, others (thankfully few) in- volving clarifications and modifications to the route descriptions, led to the decision not to run a simple reprint. Bearing in mind that many “old” readers only recently purchased the first edition, it was decided to sub-divide the new edition into two volu- mes, “Western Dolomites (Volume 1)” and “Western Do- lomites (Volume 2)”, the first being a corrected reprint of the previous edition, and this second volume including all the new descriptions which, thanks also to the help of our generous collaborators, had been collected in the period from publication of the first edition (2009) to the present. This First edition: July 2011 means that our established “mid-grade” readers can acquire all the ISBN: 978-88-97299-08-0 new material without having to buy both books.
