In addition, this Ministry will spare no effort in bridging the 1 BELUM DISUNTING 28 NOVEMBER 2016 urban rural digital divide while trying to improve the quality of telecommunication services in the State. Water Supply Menteri Kemudahan Awam (Y.B. Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Anak Utom): Tuan Speaker, I will now touch on Water Supply. In order to accelerate the growth in the rural areas of Sarawak, the State has embarked earnestly on the rural transformation programme to give more emphasis to the development of basis amenities including the provision of water supply in the rural areas. As at the end of 2015, the water supply coverage in the urban area is almost 100% but the coverage in the rural areas is only about 61%. As such, it is necessary to expedite the provision of treated or clean water supply to the remaining 39%, representing an estimated 114,000 households. Under the 11th Malaysian Plan (MP), Kementerian Kemajuan Luar Bandar dan Wilayah (KKLW) had ‘agreed in principle’ to implement 141 projects at an estimated cost of RM2.38 billion. Of these, 39 projects worth RM490 million had been approved in the first rolling plan (RP1). The 141 projects are expected to benefit some 55,000 households. On top of these, the State had allocated RM668 million in the 11th Malaysia Plan (MP) for raw water source development, master plan studies, consultancies and system improvement works in critical areas. Tuan Speaker, to facilitate the provisions of water supply to the remote areas which are not accessible by road, my Ministry had formulated the programme called SAWAS (Sarawak Alternative Rural Water Supply). With the cooperation from the agencies concerned, including Resident & District Office and the Department of Health, and the identification of the villages on the ground is nearly completed. Due to the localities and the cost involved, SAWAS is proposed to be implemented in phases based on priority and the availability of funds. The State also recognized the inconveniences faced by the existing consumers who experienced frequent interruptions of water supply due to pipe breakages or plant breakdowns. To help address these problems, some 1600km of Asbestos Cement (AC) pipes and other aged pipes are proposed to be replaced over a period of 5 to 10 years. About 32 water treatment plants and 90 reservoirs had also been identified for retrofitting. Tuan Speaker, the projects under the programmes for SAWAS, pipe replacement and retrofitting of treatment plants are referred to as ‘intervention projects’ for Rural Transformation. While we continue to request for fund from the Federal Government, I wish to thank Yang Amat Berhormat Chief Minister for providing a special allocation of RM106 million from the State coffer to ‘kick start’ the above programmes. • Sim Mungkin Dicalon Semula (BH 13/09/1997)

O riginal A rticle Singapore Med J 2012; 53(12) : 826 Risk factors associated with necrotising enterocolitis in very low birth weight infants in Malaysian neonatal intensive care units Nem-Yun Boo1, MRCP, FRCPCH, Irene Guat Sim Cheah2, MRCP, FRCPCH; Malaysian National Neonatal Registry Introduction This study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) in very low birth weight (VLBW; weight < 1,501 g) infants in Malaysian neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Methods This was a retrospective study based on data collected in a standardised format for all VLBW infants born in 2007 (n = 3,601) and admitted to 31 NICUs in Malaysian public hospitals. A diagnosis of NEC was made based on clinical, radiological and/or histopathological evidence of stage II or III, according to Bell’s criteria. Logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the significant risk factors associated with NEC. ResuLts 222 (6.2%) infants developed NEC (stage II, n = 197; stage III, n = 25). 69 (31.3%) infants died (stage II, n = 58; stage III, n = 11). The significant risk factors associated with NEC were: maternal age (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 1.024, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.003–1.046; p = 0.027), intrapartum antibiotics (OR 0.639, 95% CI 0.421–0.971; p = 0.036), birth weight (OR 0.999, 95% CI 0.998–0.999; p < 0.001), surfactant therapy (OR 1.590, 95% CI 1.170– 2.161; p = 0.003), congenital pneumonia (OR 2.00, 95% CI 1.405–2.848; p < 0.001) and indomethacin therapy for the closure of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) (OR 1.821, 95% CI 1.349–2.431; p = 0.001).

  • Stop Raising Issue of Candidate Lineup, Says Dr Masing
26 AUG 2001 Sarawak-Polls STOP RAISING ISSUE OF CANDIDATE LINEUP, SAYS DR MASING KUCHING, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- Leaders of Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS), a component party of the Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN), should stop raising the issue of the party's candidate lineup, its publicity chief, Datuk Dr James Jemut Masing, said today. "As far as I am concerned, the candidate lineup is final as announced by party president Datuk Amar Leo Moggie yesterday," he told reporters after opening a contemporary ceramics exhibition on "Bunga Terung" at a gallery at the waterfront here. He said the leaders should now close ranks and ensure that the BN won the state election. Moggie had said that the list, which had been endorsed by the party's supreme council, was official and only awaiting endorsement from BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Moggie's announcement put to rest speculations that PBDS deputy president Datuk Daniel Tajem was attempting to make a comeback to active politics. It also meant that Tajem will not be getting PBDS's ticket to contest in the upcoming election despite speculations that he would be replacing Mong Dagang for the Bukit Begunan state seat, which was once Tajem's stronghold for 22 years. Moggie had also said that incumbent Datuk Sng Chee Hua (Pelagus) would be replaced by his 22-year old son, Larry, a new trend for PBDS which is to inject the youth spirit into politics. The other PBDS incumbents retained are Dublin Unting (Batang Ai), Gabriel Adit (Ngemah), Joseph Entulu (Tamin), John Sikie Tayai (Kakus), Datuk Dr James Jemut Masing (Baleh) and Stanley Ajang (Belaga).

Two species recognized remain nameless because the material is inadequate to typify a name. Introduction There are already 40 sectional names in Cyrtandru and the limits and interrelationships of the groups so designated are far from being understood; the addition of yet another sectional name to the list may seem somewhat irresponsible. Nevertheless, the fruit characters that are used to diagnose this section - the smooth fruit wall (due to a thin layer of sclerenchyma beneath the epidermis, Fig. 3), and the septicidal splits with inrolled margins (Fig. 1) form a unique combination in this small group. It is the lateral splits in the fruit-wall that form the basis for the sectional name Pleul-oscAisnza; these splits, it should be noted, are septicidal and there is some reason to suppose that septicidal dehiscence may have been the primitive condition in the family as it is found in Ranlondu, H(xheiYcu, in the type species of Corwliodisc~us,all on the northern fringe of the subfamily Cyrtandroideae, and in the tribe Coronantherae, a basal tribe of subfamily Gesnerioideae found in New Caledonia, E.

  • Anwar Ransangkan Pusingan Akhir Kempen Pilihan Raya S'wak
