This paper discusses on Information Communication and Technology (ICT) in service delivery performed by local authorities in Sarawak. Most of the local authorities are determined to fulfil the public needs in order to achieve the maximum satisfaction from the public. Numerous awards in different categories are given by the government or private agency to the local authorities if they are excellent in carrying out their task. This acknowledgement helps to build a strong reputation of the local authority itself. In order to attain such achievement, they need to be more diligent and tolerant in delivering services to the public. Dealing with the public satisfaction is not a straightforward affair. Local authority also has been known as bureaucratic and this need to be overcome so that the organization will be able to compete in this fast- changing world. The government has use ICT to improve the public service delivery which is a new way to deliver services to communicate with people at anytime and anywhere. -

Page 1/21 Abstract Plasmodium knowlesi is the main cause of malaria in Sarawak, where studies on vectors of P. knowlesi have been conducted in only two districts. Anopheles balabacensis and An. donaldi were incriminated as vectors in Lawas and An. latens in Kapit. We studied a third location in Sarawak, Betong, where of 2,169 mosquitoes collected over 36 days using human-landing catches, 169 (7.8%) were Anopheles spp. PCR and phylogenetic analyses identied P. knowlesi and/or P. cynomolgi, P. eldi, P. inui, P. coatneyi and novel Plasmodium spp. in salivary glands of An. latens and An. introlatus from the Leucosphyrus Group and in An. collessi and An. roperi from the Umbrosus Group. Phylogenetic analyses of cytochrome oxidase subunit I sequences indicated three P. knowlesi-positive An. introlatus had been misidentied morphologically as An. latens, while An. -

The Balingian Shear Zone and West Baram Line, Sarawak and Their Importance in the Early Cenozoic Evolution of Nw Borneo Robert B
217 THE BALINGIAN SHEAR ZONE AND WEST BARAM LINE, SARAWAK AND THEIR IMPORTANCE IN THE EARLY CENOZOIC EVOLUTION OF NW BORNEO ROBERT B. TATE Department of Geology, University of Malaya, 59100 Kuala Lumpur Intense shearing of the rocks at the Sibu-Bintulu road bridge site on the Sg. Balingian was recognised first in 1976 and the shaaring then attributed to a NE-trending tectonic feature related to the Mulu Shear Zone (McManus & Tate, 1976). New roadside exposures in the middle-upper Eocene Belaga Formation in the neighbourhood of Sg. Balingian between Sibu and Bintulu now reveal a major zone of deformation which seems to trend approximately WNW. The zone appears to continue offshore where it is aligned with a positive gravity anomaly trending WNW (Hutchison,1991) indicating a major discontinuity at depth. The gravity anomaly coincides with the SW margin of the Balingian oil Province which has been described by Swinburn (1993) as the West Balingian Line. The Balingian Shear zone is characterised by intensely folded turbidites belonging to the upper part of the Belaga Formation. Cleavage, quartz-filled jointing and ptygmatic folds, boudinage and small-scale thrusting are common within a belt about 5 km wide. Structural measurements obtained from the Balingian exposures indicate a general N -S compressional direction but more data are needed from a wider area before either the structural interpretation or lateral extent and direction of the shear zone, including whether there is any horizontal component, can be established satisfactorily. The timing of the deformation cannot be verified except that it is post upper Eocene. -

Sarawak is the world main exporter for sago starch which is one of the state important agriculture commodities. Currently, the world demand for sago starch had increased tremendously, however the supply is insufficient. Inconsistent harvesting with lengthy harvesting interval had been known to affect the supply of sago logs. Lack of knowledge for systematic sago sucker management is also one of the reasons that hinder the palm growth performance resulting in low and inconsistent sago logs supply to the mills. -

The trend of logs production in this study referred only to hill and peat swamp forest logs production with their species detailed production. The trend of logs export was divided into selected species and destinations. The study covers the analysis of logs production and export for a period of ten years from 1997 to 2006. Data on logs production and export were collected from statistics published by the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (Statistic of Sarawak Timber and Timber Product), Sarawak Timber Association (Sarawak Timber Association Review), Hardwood Timber Sdn. Bhd (Warta) and Malaysia Timber Industry Board (MTIB). The trend of logs production and export were analyzed using regression model and times series. In addition, the relation between hill and peat swamp forest logs production with their species and trend of logs export by selected species and destinations were conducted using simple regression model and descriptive statistical analysis. The results depicted that volume of logs production and export by four major logs producer (Sibu division, Bintulu division, Miri division and Kuching division) for hill and peat swamp forest showed a declining trend. Result showed that Sibu division is the major logs producer for hill forest while Bintulu division is the major producer of logs produced for the peat swamp forest. -
