Pink The Antichrist by Arthur W. Pink Author of Gleanings in Genesis, The Seven Sayings of the Saviour on the Cross, Exposition of John's Gospel, Why Four Gospels?, etc., etc. I. C. Herendeen, Bible Truth Depot Swengel, Pa., 17880 2 Arthur W. Pink Foreword The contents of this book were first given out by the author at Bible Conferences, and then appeared in their present form in Studies in the Scriptures.1 As the subject of them is of such importance to students of prophecy, and as so little has been published thereon, we have deemed it advisable to issue them, complete, in book form. So far as the writer is aware, only two or three comparatively brief booklets and essays have appeared on this particular theme, though to their contents we are indebted for a number of helpful suggestions. Our aim has been to present as comprehensive an outline as our space would allow. Much of what we have advanced will no doubt be new to the great majority of our readers. Frequently we have been obliged to deviate from the interpretations of those who have gone before us. Nevertheless, we have sought to give clear proof texts for everything advanced, and we would respectfully urge the reader to examine them diligently and impartially. The subject is unspeakably solemn, and before each chapter was commenced we lifted up our heart to God that we might write with His fear upon us. To speculate about any of the truths of Holy Writ is the height of irreverence: better far to humbly acknowledge our ignorance when God has not made known His mind to us. Only in His light do we see light. Secret things belong unto the Lord, but the things which are revealed (in Scripture) belong unto us and to our children. Therefore, it is our bounden duty, as well as holy privilege, to search carefully and prayerfully into what God has been pleased to tell us upon this, as upon all other subjects of inspiration. Fully conscious are we that we have in no wise exhausted the subject. As the time of the manifestation of the Man of Sin draws near, God may be pleased to vouchsafe a fuller and better understanding of those parts of His Word which make known ªthe things which must shortly come to pass.º That others may be led to make a more thorough inquiry for themselves is our earnest hope, and that God may be pleased to use this work to stimulate to this end is our prayer. May He deign to use to His glory whatever in this book is in harmony with His Word, and cause to fall to the ground whatever in it is displeasing to Him. 1 A monthly magazine, true to its title. Each issue contains two or three lengthy articles by the writer. $1.00 per year. Address Studies in the Scriptures, Swengel, Pa. 3 Antichrist Introduction Across the varied scenes depicted by prophecy there falls the shadow of a figure at once commanding and ominous. Under many different names like the aliases of a criminal, his character and movements are set before us. It is our intention to write a series of papers concerning this one who will be the full embodiment of human wickedness and the final manifestation of satanic blasphemy. Many others have made reference to this mysterious personage in their general expositions of prophecy, but so far as our examination of the literature on this subject has carried us (and we have endeavored to make it as thorough as possible) there seem to have been very few attempts made to furnish a complete delineation of this Prince of Darkness. We do not know of any exhaustive treatment of the subject, and for this reason, and also because there is no little confusion in the minds of many concerning the character and career of the coming Man of Sin, these papers are not submitted to the attention of Bible students. For upwards of twelve years we have studied diligently and prayerfully what the Scriptures teach about the Pseudo-Christ. The deeper we have carried these studies, the more surprised we are at the prominent place which is given in the Bible to this Son of Perdition. There is an amazing wealth of detail which, when carefully collected and arranged, supplies a vivid biography of the one who is shortly to appear and take the government of the world upon his shoulders. The very fact that the Holy Spirit has caused so much to be written upon the subject at once denotes its great importance. The prominence of the Antichrist in the prophetic Scriptures will at once appear by a glance at the references that follow. The very first prophecy of the Bible takes note of him, for in Gen. 3:15 direct reference is made to the Serpent's ªSeed.º In exodus a striking type of him is furnished in Pharaoh, the defier of God; the one who cruelly treated His people; the one who by ordering the destruction of all the male children, sought to cut off Israel from being a nation; the one who met with such a drastic end at the hands of the Lord. In the prophecy of Balaam, the Antichrist is referred to under the name of ªAsshurº (Num. 24:22), Ð in future chapters evidence will be given to prove that ªAsshurº and the Antichrist are one and the same person. There are many other remarkable types of the Man of Sin to be found in the historical books of the Old Testament, but these we pass by now, as we shall devote a separate chapter to their consideration. In the book of Job he is referred to as ªthe Crooked Serpentº (Job 26:13): with this should be compared Isa. 27:1 where, as ªthe Crooked Serpent,º he is connected with the Dragon, though distinguished from him. In the Psalms we find quite a number of references to him; as ªthe Bloody and Deceitful Manº (5:6); ªthe Wicked (One)º (9:17); ªthe Man of the Earthº (10:18); the ªMighty Manº (52:1); ªthe Adversaryº (74:10); ªthe Head over many countriesº (110:6); ªthe Evil Manº and 4 Arthur W. Pink ªthe Violent Manº (140:1), etc., etc. Let the student give special attention to Psalms 10, 52, and 55. When we turn to the Prophets there the references to this Monster of Iniquity are so numerous that were we to cite all of them, even without comment, it would take us quite beyond the proper bounds of this introductory chapter.

Envisioned as a false-messiah, deceptive miracle-worker, and prophet of evil, Antichrist inversely embodies many of the qualities and characteristics associated with Max Weber’s concept of charisma. This essay explores early Christian, medieval, and contemporary depictions of Antichrist and the imagined political circumstances of his reign as manifesting the notion of (anti)charisma, compelling but misleading charismatic political and religious leadership oriented toward damnation rather than redemption. Keywords: apocalypticism; charisma; Weber; antichrist; Bible; US presidency 1. Introduction: Obama, Antichrist, and Weber On 4 November 2012, just two days before the most recent US presidential election, Texas “Megachurch” pastor Robert Jeffress (1956– ) proclaimed that a vote for the incumbent candidate Barack Obama (1961– ) represented a vote for the coming of Antichrist. “President Obama is not the Antichrist,” Jeffress qualified to his listeners, “But what I am saying is this: the course he is choosing to lead our nation is paving the way for the future reign of Antichrist” [1].

  • The Bible's Watchword: Day of the Lord
MSJ 22/1 (Spring 2011) 65-88 THE BIBLE’S WATCHWORD: DAY OF THE LORD Richard L. Mayhue, Th.D. Executive Vice President and Dean Professor of Theology and Pastoral Ministry The Master’s Seminary The biblical phrase “Day of the Lord” (DOL) stands as a key term in understanding God’s revelation about the future.1 The NT writers’ use of DOL rested upon their understanding of the OT prophets. A survey of the OT indicates that it was used by the prophets when speaking of both near historical and future eschatological events involving God’s wrath. The NT writers picked up on the eschatological use and applied DOL both to the judgment which will climax the Tribulation period and the judgment which will usher in the new earth. This view is not only compatible with but also strengthens the case for Futuristic Premillennialism and a Pretribulational Rapture. * * * * * Because “day of the Lord” appears so frequently in Scripture, it is incumbent upon the Bible interpreter/expositor to get it right. The implications are not minor. Yet, it is one of the most hotly contested elements in the field of eschatology. This writer’s approach has been to follow a basic protocol: 1. Determine what DOL meant to OT authors. 2. Assume that with nineteen appearances of DOL in the OT, then this meaning was carried forward to the four NT occurrences. 3. Test this thesis to see how it relates to a dispensational/futuristic eschatology. DOL appears in four uncontested NT passages (Acts 2:20; 1 Thess 5:2; 2 Thess 2:2; and 2 Pet 3:10).

  • Best Evidence We're in the Last Days
October 21, 2017 Best Evidence We’re In the Last Days Shawn Nelson Can we know when Jesus is coming back? Some people have tried to predict exactly when Jesus would come back. For example, Harold Camping predicted Sep. 6, 1994, May 21, 2011 and Oct. 21 2011. There have been many others.1 But the Bible says we cannot know exact time: Matthew 24:36 --- “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” Acts 1:7 --- “And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.” We might not know the exact time, but we can certainly see the stage is being set: Matthew 16:2-3 --- ‘He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! [speaking to Pharisees about events of his 1st coming] You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.’ 1 Thessalonians 5:5-6 --- “5 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night… 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA RIVERSIDE A Study of Antichrist Typology in Six Biblical Dramas of 17th Century Spain A Dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Spanish by Jason Allen Wells December 2014 Dissertation Committee: Dr. James Parr, Chairperson Dr. David Herzberger Dr. Benjamin Liu Copyright Jason Allen Wells 2014 The Dissertation of Jason Allen Wells is approved: Committee Chairperson University of California, Riverside ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION A Study of Antichrist Typology in Six Biblical Dramas of 17th Century Spain by Jason Allen Wells Doctor of Philosophy, Graduate Program in Spanish University of California, Riverside, December 2014 Dr. James Parr, Chairperson This dissertation examines Antichrist types manifested in the primary antagonists of six biblical dramas of seventeenth century Spanish theater. After researching the topic of biblical typology in the works of theologians Sir Robert Anderson, G.H. Pember, Arthur W. Pink, and Peter S. Ruckman, who propose various personages of both the Old and New Testaments that adumbrate the Antichrist, I devise a reduced list based on extant plays of the Spanish Golden Age whose main characters match the scriptural counterparts of my register. These characters are Cain, Absalom, Haman, Herod the Great, Judas Iscariot, and the Antichrist himself. I consult the Bible to provide the reader with pertinent background information about these foreshadowings of the Son of Perdition and then I compare and contrast these characteristics with those provided by the playwrights in their respective works. By making these comparisons and contrasts the reader is able to observe the poets’ embellishments of the source material, artistic contributions that in many instances probably satisfy the reader’s desire for details not found in the biblical iv narratives.

  • Amillennialism David J
Criswell Tabernacle A Defense of Reformed Amillennialism David J. Engelsma Response to the editorial, "Jewish Dreams" (the Standard Bearer, Jan. 15, 1995), has made clear how deep and entrenched are the inroads of postmillennialism into Reformed circles. The editorial, written at the beginning of a new year, reminded Reformed Christians that our only hope, according to the Bible, is the second coming of the Lord Jesus. It sketched in broad outline the traditional, creedal Reformed conception of the last days: abounding lawlessness; widespread apostasy; the Antichrist; and great tribulation for the true church. It gave a warning against the false hope that is known as postmillennialism, quoting a Reformed creed that condemned "Jewish dreams that there will be a golden age on earth before the Day of Judgment." Against this Reformed doctrine of the endtime with its condemnation of postmillennialism have come vehement objections. The objections arise from conservative Reformed and Presbyterian men and churches. One objector asked for a defense of Amillennialism from Scripture. He also confidently asserted that the number of Reformed Amillennialists is steadily decreasing, suggesting that the reason for this is the irrefutable arguments of the postmillennialists. It is true that the postmillennialists are very vocal and aggressive in promoting their theory of the last days. Nor is this true only of those associated with the movement known as "Christian Reconstruction." Also the men of the influential Banner of Truth publishing group vigorously and incessantly push postmillennialism, usually in connection with their expectation of a coming great revival of Christianity. It is also true that there is little or no defense of Amillennialism in the Reformed press.

N. (PhD, MA. BA, Dip.Th) Department of Philosophy & Religion Ebonyi State University Abakaliki, Corresponding Author: UkomaA. N ABSTRACT: The word „Restrainer‟ derived from the Greek word „katechon‟ or „katechōn‟ has the potency to put the upsurge of immorality on hold in the contemporary society according to Apostle Paul. Of course, Paul says that His presence on earth gives man breathing space relative to full blown moral decadence that will be occasioned by the son of perdition in the last days. Accordingly, the contemporary society is like a bubble that is waiting to burst; in the face of moral decadence that has permeated into its fibbers. For Paul, the comprehensiveness of such evil days will manifest as part of eschatological events. Of course, the removal of the Restrainer from the way of the son of perdition will expose the full control of the Devil. This obstructer had since been interpreted variously among scholars. Some do not know who or what is meant, while others stir middle course on the matter. This vagary of opinions a problem facing the Church calls for the establishment of the proper personification of the concept. Conclusions in this research were derived from related literature, journal articles and oral participatory interviews that were analysed in the contextual light of Pauline postulation in his second epistle to the Thessalonians.

  • The Times of the Gentiles
The Journal of Ministry & Theology 5 The Times of the Gentiles Dr. Gary Gromacki Professor of Bible and Homiletics Baptist Bible Seminary South Abington Twp., Pennsylvania INTRODUCTION Jesus made this prediction in his Olivet Discourse: But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her. For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled” (Luke 21:20- 24, NKJV). What did Jesus mean when he referred to “the times of the Gentiles?”1 When did the times of the Gentiles begin? When will the times of the Gentiles end? What events will happen during this period of time when Gentiles conquer Jerusalem? The times of the Gentiles refers to the period of time that began with the destruction of Jerusalem and Solomon’s temple by Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians in 586 BC. The times of the Gentiles included the destruction of Jerusalem and the second temple by Titus and the Romans 1 This paper was presented at the Pre-Trib Rapture Study Group Conference on December 5, 2016, in Irving, Texas, and has been revised for this journal.

  • 2 Thessalonians Ch.2
2 Thessalonians Ch.2 Day 1 I’m excited to study God’s Word with you! Pray with me: “Lord, give us the mind of a “learner”, as we study your word today. Clear our thoughts now of our daily tasks, so we can hear You speak. Take our worries, ease our anxieties, and help us to focus on the voice of your sweet Holy Spirit, our teacher.” “We look to you for spiritual feeding. Oh how dry we are without your infilling of wisdom and hope. Feed our soul, Lord. Living in this ungodly, chaotic world makes my soul dry. There is heartache and pain around every corner, sometimes mine and sometimes others. Remind us of Your sure promises, lift us up and bring us hope only You can give and continue to be forever faithful to each one.” “You alone do we worship. We bow our hearts in praise and adoration for how You have cared for us up until this point. We live under the umbrella of your protection, favor and grace, something the non-believer doesn’t experience. That breaks our heart Lord. They need You desperately, just as we do. You show us special favor, which makes our hearts swell with gratitude as we sit here before You. Praise You Father, for your great devotion and care to each one of us. Help us to never take for granted all You have done to have relationship with us. Thank You for the cross, thank You for redemption and relationship with You. We are undeserving, You are ever giving.

2 Thessalonians 2 – remember three times referenced- 1) rapture 2) tribulation 3) second coming v.1-2 Gathering together to Him- refers to the rapture from 1 Thessalonians 4:13- 18 - Day of Christ- some had been saying that tribulation had started - don't be shaken by spirit- prophetic utterances- 1 Thessalonians 5 said not to despise prophecies but also to test all things- How can they be tested ? Only one way , the Word v.3 Let no one deceive you- the word means not just deceive but to lead astray - Covid vaccine is not the mark of the beast, doesn’t have a chip, doesn’t change your DNA - falling away- apostasia- departure from faith is the normal translation but it can also mean removal, I think this is a dual meaning that there will be a falling away from the faith when the church is removed - Revelation 3:14 "And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, 'These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: 15 "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 "So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17 "Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing'; and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked; - in Revelation 17- God tells us of " Mystery Babylon ", this is in part the compromised church that is left after the rapture that is open to anything v.3-4 man of sin/son of perdition - see Matthew 24- Jesus makes reference to the prophesies of Daniel 9 &12 - read Revelation 13 v.6-8 He Who restrains is the Holy Spirit working through the church, when that influence is removed, the power of the antichrist will have full reign- see - Rev 4:5 And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices.

  • The Rapture of the Church
Pastor Robert Rutta The Rapture of the Church II Timothy 3:1 The next major event on God’s prophetic calendar is the Rapture of church-age believers. The word “rapture” does not appear in the Bible, but the event is described in detail. It refers to the catching away of the church-age saints at the end of the age. I. The Promise of the Rapture. John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. Our ATTITUDE concerning future events. He said, "Let not your heart be troubled" (v.1). a. In other words, Jesus is saying, "I know your lives are full of difficulties and troubles. b. Don't get wrapped up in those things, but look to Me." We should have a calm ASSURANCE. He said, "I to go prepare a place for you...” Jesus also says, "I will come again and receive you to Myself." The Bible is filled with the promises of God. We can be assured that He will keep them all…including this one! 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

  • Amillennialism Or the Truth of the Return of the Lord Jesus
Amillennialism or The Truth of the Return of the Lord Jesus By Rev. D. H. Kuiper In the past two articles the theories of Postmillennialism and Premillennialism have been defined and briefly discussed. In both cases it was shown that these views did not satisfy all the revealed data presented to us by the Scriptures. Each view has elements of truth to recommend it; yet at the same time each came into conflict with various portions of the Bible. Although the truth concerning the parousia of Jesus Christ has been suggested previously, it is the task of this article to develop more fully that true conception, and show how the unity of the Scriptures may and must be preserved also in respect to the day of Christ’s appearing. We believe this is accomplished when one holds to what has been called Amillennialism. This term is, perhaps, unfortunate. Literally it means “no thousand years”; the amillennialist then does not believe in the millennium. The defect in the name is that the Bible DOES teach a 100 year period in SOME sense, and the term is completely negative. Since the term is with us, let us define it in such a way that it has positive content: Amillennialism is that view of the last things which denies a literal thousand year reign of Christ on this earth (Premillennialism) or a thousand year period of peace and righteousness on this earth just before Christ returns (Postmillennialism), but holds that the millennium mentioned in Rev. 20 refers to the entire period between Christ’s first and last coming, from Pentecost to just before Judgment.

The God of This Evil Age #7 ‘Predition; Lineage’ July 22, 1990 Shall we pray: Heavenly Father, we’re grateful that all things are possible because of Your Presence, especially those things Lord, which are written in Your Word, which could not be possible without that Presence. We thank You for It Lord, and upon this we rest our entire hope and yea, beyond that our entire life Lord, because this is a matter of destiny of whether eternal or whether it’s obliteration Father, we know that it rests here at this time the decision to be made. And Lord, we’ve made our decision, this is correct, this is right Lord, we believe that it has been vindicated as truth, we submit to It, O God, passively on the grounds that this is what You told us to believe. We acknowledge It to Your Presence, help us Lord, also to live it. We’ll give You the glory in Jesus’ Name. Amen. You may be seated. 1. Now we’re into The God of this Evil Age, number 7, based upon Bro. Branham’s sermon which we’ve been reading and studying together. And in the last two messages we had mentioned Bro. Branham pointing to two lineages that started in Eden and are even now in the world. God heads one, Satan heads the other, and we go back to the very beginning where God spoke concerning the coming forth of His Son which according to the Book of Hebrews is literally, essentially, dynamically, physically, a part of God.
