PATTO – the JOHN HALSEY INTERVIEW
PATTO – the JOHN HALSEY INTERVIEW Patto, apart from being one of the finest (purely subjective, of course) bands this country ever produced, were not blessed with good fortune. Forever on the verge of making it really big, they broke up after six years of knocking on the door and finding no-one home. Subsequently, two of their number died while the other two were involved in a terrible car smash which left one with severe physical injuries and the other with severe mental problems. Drummer John Halsey is now the only Patto member who could possible give us an interview. Mike Patto and Ollie Halsall are both gone, while bassist Clive Griffiths apparently doesn't even recall being in a band! Despite bearing the scars of the accident (Halsey walks with a pronounced limp), John was only too pleased to submit to a Terrascopic grilling - an interview which took place in the wonderful Suffolk pub he runs with his wife Elaine. Bancroft and I spent a lovely afternoon and evening with the Halseys, B & B'd in the shadow of a 12th Century church cupboard and returned to London the next morning with one of the most enjoyable interviews either of us has ever done. John Halsey: I started playing drums because two mates who lived in my road in North Finchley (N. London), where I'm from, wanted to form a group. This was years and years ago, 1958, 1959. Want to see the photo? PT: Oh, look at that! 1959! Me, with a microphone inside me guitar that used to go out through me Mum's tape recorder, and if you put 'Record' and 'Play' on together, it'd act like an amplifier. -

Perhaps, as Prial suggests, Hammond’s relationship to the Vanderbilts did him more good in his early years in music than his social skills. There are questions unanswered and undeveloped in this biography related to Hammond the man, such as his falling out with Aretha Franklin or his quick parting with Dylan. Each chapter of this book comes (another assault on your pocketbook) with a wonderful ‘‘discography’’ that should slow down the pace of reading but will contribute to a great start in building a library of American music of the 20th century. It is quite something how much music Hammond had a role in, and this portion of the book is an important reminder of the times and genres Hammond touched. As with all biographies there are problems and limitations. For those of us raised in the second half of the century, The Producer fails to deliver the same magic surrounding the discovery and signing of ‘‘our’’ heroes as it does around the early stars. -

JETHRO TULL BIOGRAPHIE Ende 1967 Versammelten Sich Vier

Hi Marc, This Is Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull. Q
IA: Hello, Marc Allan please. Q: This is Marc. IA: Hi Marc, this is Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull. Q: Hi Ian, how are you? IA: I'm very well, I've just been speaking repeatedly to a young lady, I mean quite a young lady from apparently on a phone number that's calling for the last 10 minutes. (laughs) Q: Oh wow. IA: And finally had to explain what I was trying to do and that her mom looked up your telephone number and I'd got the, well, whoever gave me the phone number had got it wrong. So somewhere out there in a suburb not too far from you is a young lady who is very bemused by the fact that some strange English person from a rock band called Jethro Tull, which she'd obviously never heard, (laughs) trying to reach her to talk to her about our forthcoming tour. Q: Gee, would've been kind of exciting if you had reached a fan, you know, and then somebody was really thrilled and kept you on the phone. IA: Actually, I think the girl had heard of us, but when she said to her mom, she said, "What's that, a delivery service?" (laughs) 'Cause I thought it was gonna be like she was gonna get through to her mom, I said mom, Mom said, "What, let me speak to him." But no, Mom hadn't heard of us but little girly had, maybe little girly wasn't so little but she was, you know, we're talking teenage. -

Then came punk to save the world by blowing them all away. That, at least, is what standard histories of popular music would have us believe. -

The New Jersey saxophonist, composer and arranger is best known for his celebrated performances interpreting the ingenious compositions of Frank Zappa, an extensive body of work documented on previous Cuneiform albums such as 2006’s Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance and 2009’s Eddy Loves Frank. His fifth project for the label, The Great Un-American Songbook Volumes 1 & 2 is a love letter to the rockers who ruled the AM and FM airwaves in the 1960s via successive waves of the British Invasion. Featuring largely the same stellar cast of players as last year’s gloriously eclectic One Child Left Behind, the 18-piece EPBB lovingly reinvents songs famous and obscure, leaving them readily recognizable and utterly transformed. -

Soundcheck Books. Paperback. Book Condition: new. BRAND NEW, A Passion Play: The Story of Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull, Brian Rabey, This is a book in two parts. Part one is a history of the band, largely told by band members themselves - Maartin Allcock , Mick Abrahams, Martin Barre, Clive Bunker, Glenn Cornick, John Evans, Andy Giddings. Jerey Hammond, Dave Pegg, Doane Perry, and, of course, Ian Anderson. Author Brian Rabey really did have 'access all areas' for this work. He made good use of it as well, oen relating the same story (for example, how Martin Barre came to join Tull) but from dierent people's viewpoints. Part two, is devoted to the thoughts of Ian Anderson, again largely told in the man's words in interviews that stretch back to Anderson's first meeting with Rabey in the 1970s, right up to the present. -
Mick Abrahams – Revived
Alexis Korner, Manfred Mann, The Blues Band) Mark Feltham (+ Bluesharp; u.a. Rory Gallagher, Nine Below Zero) Beverley Skeete (u.a. Sting, The Rhythm Kings, Jamiroquai, Squeeze, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan) Don Andrews Patrick Walshe Peter Eldridge Gitarre Martin Barre (s.o.) Bernie Marsden (u.a. Whitesnake Elliott Randall (u.a. Steely Dan) Geoff Whitehorn (u.a. Procol Harum, If, Crawler) Emily Gardner Terry Taylor (u.a. The Rhythm Kings) Alex Abrahams Bass Bill Wyman (Rolling Stones, The Rhythm Kings) Jim Rodford (Argent, The Kinks) John „Guiness“ Gordon Keyboards George Murayni Josh Phillips (u.a. The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, Procol Harum) Schlagzeug Graham Walker (u.a. Gary Moore) Saxophon Frank Mead (+ Squeezebox; u.a. Procol Harum) Nick Payn (+ Gesang; u.a. -
JETHRO TULL by IAN ANDERSON – 50Th Anniversary Tour – 23
JETHRO TULL by IAN ANDERSON – 50th Anniversary Tour – 23.
