RECOMMENDATIONS:

A. That the City Council designate the unnumbered location situated one sidewalk square northerly of and between numbered locations 14H and 14h as shown on Sheet 16 of Plan D-13788 for the Hollywood Walk of Fame for the installation of the name of William Petersen at 6667 Hollywood Boulevard.

B. Inform the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce of the Council's action on this matter.

C. That this report be adopted prior to the date of the ceremony on February 3,2009.

FISCAL IMPACT STATEMENT:

No General Fund Impact. All cost paid by permittee.

DISCUSSION:

The Walk of Fame Committee of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has submitted a request for insertion into the Hollywood Walk of Fame the name of William Petersen. The ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 11:30 a.m.

The communicant's request is in accordance with City Council action of October 18, 1978, under Council File No. 78-3949. Following the Council's action of approval, and upon proper application and payment ofthe required fee, an installation permit can be secured at 201 N. Figueroa Street, 3rd Floor, Counter 23.

WILLIAM PETERSEN (Category -TELEVISION- Requested star location to be 6667 Hollywood Blvd. north side of the street, infront of Musso & Frank Restaurant. The star for WILLIAM .PETERSEN will be situated in the second row closest to the building near fhe stars of GENE AUTRY (14H) to the west and QUINN MARTIN which is numbered (14h) to the east. Both stars are in the original row. According to sheet # 16 plan 13788, WILLIAM PETERSEN'S star has no designated number. The dedication ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, at 11:30 a.m.

William Petersen Biography

William Petersen has a distinguished background in film, theater and television.

He serves as executive producer on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and was nominated in 2003 for a Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of Gil Grissom, the lead investigator on the series.

.His television credits include "Long Gone," "The Rat Pack," the Golden Globe Award winning mini-series "The Kennedys of Massachusetts" and "The Beast."

His feature film credits include "To Live and Die in L.A.," "Manhunter," "Cousins," "Young Guns II," "Fear," "The Contender" and the films "Hard Promises" and "Keep the Change," both of which he also produced. -

In 1979, he founded the Remains Theater Ensemble in Chicago with a group of fellow actors. In 1983, Petersen starr~d asJack Henry Abbott in "In the Belly of the Beast" which he performed at the Wisdom Bridge Theatre in Chicago, at the Edinburgh Festival and at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.

In 1996 Petersen made his Broadway debut in a revival of Tennessee Williams' "The Night of the Iguana." He has appeared in a number of regional stage productions, including most recently "A Dublin Carol" at the SteppenwolfTheatre in Chicago, "A Streetcar Named Desire," "The Time of Your Life," "Glengarry Glen Ross," "Fool for Love" and "Speed-the-Plow."

. Last fall Petersen became a member of the SteppenwolfTheatre ensemble.

Audiences "will next see him star in ''Blackbird'' on stage at the Victory Gardens Theatre in Chicago in the summer of 2009.

Petersen was born in Evanston, Illinois, and first discovered acting while on a football scholarship at Idaho State University. He later studied acting in Spain.
