InIn Borgman I wanted to show thatthat evil comescomes in everyday form, embodiedembodied within ordinary, normal, polite men and women who performperform their tasks with pride and pleasure,pleasure, andand with ruthless A attentionattention to detail. I wanted to show thatthat evil is enacted not just onon cold winter nights, but in the optimistic summer,summer, beneath a warmwarm and comforting sun.

AndAnd I wanted to show thatthat a man like Borgman, who continually remainsremains elusive, can intoxicate aa woman so fullyfully withwith desire thatthat sheshe is rendered powerless.

ThisThis filmfilm is darkerdarker thanthan mymy otherother filmsfilms becausebecause I Iwanted wanted toto gogo further.further. I wanted to descend into an unknown, dark part ofof my imaginationimagination and see what was to be found there. And I wanted toto make a filmfilm very muchmuch openopen toto interpretation,interpretation, oneone that raisesraises moremore questions than itit answers.

II think think Borgman Borgman is is a strong strong film film - ask ask me me again again in in 10 10 years years andand I will have have forgotten how how I ever came to write it -- but in mymy experience there are always things which could be better. NeverthelessNevertheless I am am very very curious curious about how it will be received. AndAnd in the meantime I am working on a new film,film, mymy ninth film.film.
