Term 2 Week 5 STUDENT NEWS FROM CLARE PUBLIC SCHOOL May 2021 Term 2 week 5 Clare Connection Kathy’s Corner Welcome everyone to another term and our second term together. One of the joys of being a Teaching Principal in a small and isolated school I N S I D E is building relationships and creating a team. Relationships and a team that encompasses all members of our school community; staff, parents, Classroom our community and the most important member of all, our children. As News you all know, building relationships takes time, care and compassion. It can be plagued with hiccups and anxiety for the newness and change that is required. It can also bring lasting rewards and a sense of joy for Community rejuvenation and hope for the future. All of this requires authenticity and News open communication and I thank all of our team members for embracing our new team and trusting in our future. In the interests of authenticity I would like to share that I am a newbie to Outback living. Yes, my previous school was small and isolated but it was in lush greenness, abundant with moisture and rain. ‘Hey Mick’ and I have been relishing the change in scenery and enjoy our evenings savouring the sunsets and expansive sky. As a Riverina girl, born and bred, I have been loving the return to flat, straight roads and warmth. This term our children (and I call them ‘our’ children because we have a shared responsibility of care and support to help them navigate their way through life and learning) have been delighting Kara, Jen, Deb, Mick and I with their efforts and growth with learning, relationships and behaviour. All children have their own strengths and needs. All children are showing that they understand this and are offering respect for themselves, and their peers, as we all work together to support one another with learning and growth. Parents, please congratulate your children on their attitude, motivation and effort and give them a hug for being the special child that they are growing into. Trust and respect will lead us forward and I look forward to sharing our journey with you all. Thanks Team Clare PS. Keep smiling! Knitting is fun and creative. It can be relaxing and help build confidence in children. Knitting helps children lean to focus, persist and concentrate. It can help them gain the fine motor skills needed for writing. The moving from left to right pattern required with knitting supports children with their learning to read pattern of moving from left to right. One of our school planning 2021-2014 goals is that: Staff and students engage in explicit teaching and learning activities focusing on growth mind-sets, resilience and visible learning. Knitting is one of our activities to achieve this goal. Jenny English This year London's nan, another keen knitter, will be joining in the fun. Healthy Harold is the lovable giraffe, caring and loyal friend to all and passionate advocate for the health and safety of all Aussie children and their families. Healthy Harold is an Australian icon whom I'm sure all of our parents remember with fondness from their own childhoods. Our children thoroughly enjoyed their visit with Healthy Harold and are to be congratulated on their positive behaviour and enthusiasm for the learning activities. We would like to thank all of the parents who kindly gave up their days to transport children into Balranald and share lunch and playtime with us at Balranald Tourist Information Centre. Healthy Harold has assured us that in 2022 he will live up to his 'On the Move' motto and share his day with us at Clare PS. The children arrived on pony and were picked up by fire truck. SURPRISE TRAVELLERS Sometimes travelling an isolated road home from school brings special moments... Jack, Edie, Paddy, Hannah and mum, Jo enjoyed one of those moments yesterday. They enjoyed a lovely chat with this couple who are travelling around Oz on a three year adventure. In 12 months they have completed 2500 kms. If you see them on the road give them a cheerio. We wish them luck. Movement and learning with our Padre of the Air this week!
