We are delighted to welcome the players, officials and supporters of Cwmbran Celtic and we hope you enjoy our facilities before, during and after the game. We would also like to welcome the Match Officials to Penybont, namely Teifion Cook (Swansea), Robert Mealins and Lewys Evans (both Cardiff). JOHN ALFIE "BOMBER" BARRETT It is with deep sadness and regret I report the sad death of my great friend Alfie Barrett. Alfie was born in September 1956 and passed away on Monday. A pictorial tribute is included in this programme with a full written tribute to be included in the programme for the match versus Risca United on Saturday 4 March 2017. A minute's silence will take place prior to today's match as a mark of respect. JD WELSH CUP We were delighted to reach round four of the JD Welsh Cup and travelled to play Dafabet Welsh Premier League high-flyers Bala Town away in round four on 28 January 2017. At full time, we were holding Bala to a 1-1 draw at full time thanks to an 88th minute equaliser by our player-manager, Rhys Griffiths, but unfortunately suffered a 4-1 defeat after extra time. Coupled with our victories over AFC Forth 3-1 at home in round one, 3-0 away at Barry Town United in round two, and 4-1 at home to Welsh Premier team, Airbus UK Broughton in round three, this has certainly raised the profile of Penybont FC. We were delighted to have S4C's Sgorio cameras at the latter two games too, and thank match sponsors for the Airbus match, Graham Paul Chartered Accountants, Bridgend and Cardiff (http://www.grahampaul.com), for their excellent support. Finally, we wish to thank all our supporters who turned up to travel on our supporters' bus and those who travelled the considerable distance by car too. BUSINESS PARTNERSHIPS We would like to put on record how proud we are of attracting excellent Business Partners to our club. The list includes, Sony UK, Nathaniel Car Sales, Kymco Healthcare, Sinclair, The Dovey Group, Mid Glamorgan Provisions, Highland Services and many others. We also have a new kit supplier in Macron Store, Cardiff. Many thanks to you all for your generous support and sponsorship. FUTURE EVENTS Please note information on future events further in this programme. Also, we host the Filco Supermarkets Family Fun Day on 29 May 2017 (further details to be confirmed). Finally, on 23 June 2017, we host a British and Irish Lions event (further details to be confirmed). DEVELOPMENT PYRAMID We have updated our Penybont Club Development Pyramid and you can see from the graphic further in this programme we now have a staggering 44 teams under the Penybont umbrella (including Bridgend Town Juniors and Bryntirion Athletic Juniors) and this shows how far our club has come in a short period of time. THANK YOU Thanks to our resident photographer Bernie Ford for continually raising the profile of the club in the local press and also Tony Poole for all his good work in the Glamorgan Gazette for our club. Thanks too to our groundsman Lyndon "Boxer" Borge. GROUND IMPROVEMENTS We have submitted a planning application to the Bridgend County Borough Council for new facilities. We are displaying a copy of the plans on the wall in foyer of the clubhouse so everyone can look at what the project brings to the KYMCO Stadium and Penybont FC. Details of the Stadium Project can be seen further in this programme. Completion of the works will achieve the ground and infrastructure element of the FAW's Domestic Licence. This together with the successful completion of all the other elements, will enable us to achieve the award of the Domestic Licence which is essential for entry to the Welsh Premier League together with achieving the sporting criteria appropriate at the time - champions or runners up in Division One. VOLUNTEERS These are exciting times for Penybont Football Club and what a great time to join us. We are always looking for volunteers and helpers to work with us on our journey. A club is only as good as its support and helpers and this is one area we are looking to increase. Rhys is a legend of the Welsh Premier League and this is his first managerial role. Very professional, he has brought a new mindset to the club. A very good communicator and has the players switched on. FAW A' Licence holder. Martyn Giles: Assistant Manager. Martyn has a huge wealth of playing experience and has taken to the assistant managerial role with ease. Works the players hard but it is gaining its rewards and the defence especially is looking very mean and tight. Works very well with Rhys. Rhys Wilson: Goalkeeper. Rhys is another local talent. He is a former pro keeper as he was with Swansea City and Aberdeen. A great keeper and should be No 1 for a long time to come. Aaron Jones: Goalkeeper. Azza is our Youth team keeper and has a big future in front of him. Has stepped up well with the First Team and will be looking to push Rhys all the way this year. Sean 'Barney' Williams: Defender. 'Barney' is now in his 10* year with the club. Has started pre-season in very good form and is working hard with the new coaching team. A dominant player in the air and always gives 100%. Excellent loyalty shown to the club. Matthew Jones: Defender. Matthew is an excellent defender and has a great motor to get up and down the pitch. Looking to be part of a very mean defence this season. Enjoys triathlons. Kane Owen: Defender. Kane is one of the manager's new signings and has settled in very well. A great defender and can overlap to turn defence into attack. Joins us from Aberystwyth Town and we are hoping for big things from Kane. Joe Hopkins: Defender/Midfielder. Joe has added consistency to his game and now has settled into the team this season. Another youth product, which has come through the ranks. A stylish player who can score goals and creates a load of chances. Duane Saunders: Midfielder. Good afternoon everybody and welcome to today's fixture with Taffs Well to whose players, officials and supporters we extend warm greetings .Our visitors ended runners- up last season and by the looks of things are geared up to go one better this time round. A point behind current leaders Barry Town but with two games in hand they must be regarded as early favourites for the championship though there is a long, long way to go. Without doubt it looks the most open for years with no team even close to a decisive breakaway and early leaders Cambrian and AFC Porth both stuttering in recent games.
