GENERAL INFORMATION ALCORN STATE UNIVERSITY PROFILE

TYPE Alcorn State University is a land-grant, residential University. It is one of eight state-assisted institutions of higher learning in the state of .

LOCATION The University is located in Claiborne County, Mississippi, 7 miles west of Lorman, 17 miles southwest of Port Gibson, and 45 miles south of Vicksburg. State Highway 552, 1 mile north of Lorman, Mississippi, leads directly to the campus.

CAMPUS The University encompasses 1,756 acres: campus and athletic fields 300 acres; agriculture and research 1,456 acres.

STUDENTS Headcount enrollment for Fall 2012 was 3,950: 1,302 males, 2,648 females; 3,079 full-time, 871 part-time; 3,208 undergraduates, and 742 graduate students.

FACULTY Full-time faculty for Fall 2012 totaled 182: 34 professors, 33 associate professors, 69 assistant professors, and 46 instructors, holding 112 doctorates, 2 first professionals and 68 masters.

DEGREES 506 degrees were awarded in the Spring of 2013: 13 associates, 352 bachelors, 136 masters, and 5 specialists.

MISSION

Alcorn State University, an historically Black College and University, is a comprehensive land-grant institution that celebrates a rich heritage with a diverse student and faculty population.
