A Distributional Checklist” (kar s h o l t & RA z o W s k i 1996). Notă: Numerotarea corespunde poziţiei din Catalogul lepidopterelor României (RÁKOSY et al. 2003), în paranteză este precizată poziţia taxonilor în Catalogul lepidopterelor Europene (kar s h o l t & RA z o W s k i 1996). i. SYSTEMATICS OF THE MEGADIVERSE SUPERFAMILY GELECHIOIDEA (INSECTA: LEPIDOPTEA) DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for The Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Sibyl Rae Bucheli, M.S. ***** The Ohio State University 2005 Dissertation Committee: Approved by Dr. John W. Wenzel, Advisor Dr. Daniel Herms Dr. Hans Klompen _________________________________ Dr. Steven C. Passoa Advisor Graduate Program in Entomology ABSTRACT The phylogenetics, systematics, taxonomy, and biology of Gelechioidea (Insecta: Lepidoptera) are investigated. This superfamily is probably the second largest in all of Lepidoptera, and it remains one of the least well known. Taxonomy of Gelechioidea has been unstable historically, and definitions vary at the family and subfamily levels. In Chapters Two and Three, I review the taxonomy of Gelechioidea and characters that have been important, with attention to what characters or terms were used by different authors. I revise the coding of characters that are already in the literature, and provide new data as well. Chapter Four provides the first phylogenetic analysis of Gelechioidea to include molecular data. I combine novel DNA sequence data from Cytochrome oxidase I and II with morphological matrices for exemplar species. The results challenge current concepts of Gelechioidea, suggesting that traditional morphological characters that have united taxa may not be homologous structures and are in need of further investigation. Resolution of this problem will require more detailed analysis and more thorough characterization of certain lineages. To begin this task, I conduct in Chapter Five an in- depth study of morphological evolution, host-plant selection, and geographical distribution of a medium-sized genus Depressaria Haworth (Depressariinae), larvae of ii which generally feed on plants in the families Asteraceae and Apiaceae.

Čiurlionio g. 21/27, LT-03101 Vilnius. E- mail: [email protected] Material and Methods The material was collected in different administrative districts of Lithuania. Butterflies were collected with a standard entomological net. Moths were attracted using 160–400 W mixed light lamp bulbs. The identification of Lepidoptera species was checked with conformable guides (Kazlauskas, 1984; Ivinskis, 1993; Nowacki, 1998; Elsner et al ., 1999; Razowski, 2001; Ivinskis, Augustauskas, 2004). Some species listed bellow were mentioned as new to Lithuania (Kazlauskas, 2003) but exact finding data are presented in this report. New species are marked with an asterisk (*). The nomenclature follows O. Karlsholt & J. Razowski (1996). The material is deposited in the Zoological Museum of Vilnius University. Buchner Abstract This paper deals with a species which was described as Depressaria thurneri Rebel, 1940. The type series consisting of 7 specimens, is stored at the NHMW. Hannemann dissected a male, the result made it necessary to put it into the genus Agonopterix HÜBNER, [1825]. In preparation for the volume „Microlepidoptera of Europe: Depressariinae“ several non-type-specimens of this taxon were dissected, but all turned out to be Exaeretia Stainton , 1849. Dissections of type specimens brought the same result. In search of the cause of this contradiction I realized, the abomen had not been removed completely, but was broken in the middle. The proximal part showed clearly it had been affixed with glue. This was first interpreted as that Hannemann's Agonopterix thurneri “ slide came from another moth, because a foreign abdomen had been glued. In support of this assumption characteristics were sought by which the genera Agonopterix and Exaeretia are distinguishable by external characteristics. Such could be found also, with one caveat: The holotype of Exaeretia conciliatella (Rebel, 1892) showed consistently features which apply for Agonopterix. A close look at this holotype showed, the abdomen was also broken in the middle and the proximal part was affixed with glue. The moth looked like Agonopterix mutatella Hannemann , 1989, the preparation resulted in an Exaeretia thurneri- slide.

[ISSN 0040-7496]. Published 1 December 2003. The species of the Stigmella ruficapitella group occurring in the Western Palaearctic and feed- ing on Quercus are reviewed. We recognise 19 species, five of which are described as new: Stig- mella fasciata sp. n. on Quercus pubescens from Slovenia, Croatia, Greece and Turkey, S. coc- ciferae sp. n. on Q. coccifera from Greece, Turkey and Israel, S. kasyi sp.n. from Afghanistan, possibly feeding on Quercus baloot, S. bicuspidata sp. n. from Turkey (host unknown) and S. karsholti sp. n. on Q. canariensis from Tunisia. Stigmella ilicifoliella (Mendes, 1918) comb. n., stat. rev. is removed from synonymy with S. suberivora (Stainton, 1869), it occurs in France, Spain and Portugal, partly sympatric with S. suberivora on Quercus rotundifolia, Q. ilex and Q. suber. Stigmella nigra Dufrane, 1955 is synonymised with S. ilicifoliella. S. suberivora, S. ilici- foliella, S. szoecsiella (Borkowski, 1972), S. macrolepidella (Klimesch, 1978), S. zangherii (Klimesch, 1951), S. dorsiguttella (Johansson, 1971), S. trojana Z. & A. Latuvka, 1998 and S. eberhardi (Johansson, 1971) are redescribed. A new diagnostic character on the forewing un- derside is described for male S. svenssoni (Johansson, 1971). Data on distribution and biology are given for all species, keys are given for males and for male and female genitalia.

(Lepidoptera: Coleophoridae) Ignác Richter Abstract. Present article brings information about new findings of case–bearing moths (Lepidoptera: Coleophoridae) from the Balkan Peninsula. Several species of the genus Coleophora were recorded for the first time for some of the Balkan countries. Coleophora herniariae, C. daglarica and C. albipennella are recorded as new for the fauna of Europe. The description Coleophora vardarella Richter, sp. nov., from Macedonia is given. Keywords. Lepidoptera, Coleophoridae, Coleophora vardarella sp. nov., Coleophora herniariae, Coleophora daglarica, Coleophora albipennella, Macedonia, the Balkan Peninsula. Author’s address. Ignác Richter | Malá Čausa 289, SK–971 01, Slovakia E-mail: [email protected] Introduction Intensive faunistic research of small moths (“Microlepidoptera”) of the Balkan Peninsula continues for several decades already and lasts until the recent times. The family Coleophoridae Bruand, 1850 belongs to the less known moths of the Balkans, therefore our focus has been oriented towards this large Lepidoptera family. Faunistic and systematic studies of this moth group in the Balkans resulted in interesting findings. One of the most important recent works about the genera Coleophora Hübner, 1822 and Goniodoma Zeller, 1849 of the Balkan Peninsula is the contribution of Richter & Pastorális (2015). Results of surveys conducted by seni- or author, executed in the years 2010–2014 at different sites of Croatia, Montene- gro, Macedonia, and Bulgaria were presented.

Analele Ştiinţifice ale Universităţii „Al. I. Cuza” Iaşi, s. Biologie animală, Tom LIII, 2007 LEAF-MINING INSECTS ENCOUNTERED IN THE FOREST RESERVE OF HÂRBOANCA, VASLUI COUNTY Alina-Maria STOLNICU “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University, Iasi, the Faculty of Biology, Carol I Blvd., no. 22, 700505, Iaşi, Romania e-mail: [email protected] Abstract. As a result of a series of studies conducted within the Forest Reserve of Hârboanca (Vaslui) between June 2005 and October 2006, there were identified 60 species of leaf-mining insects, belonging to 14 families, from three different orders: Lepidoptera (83%), Diptera (12%) and Hymenoptera (5%). The “mines” caused by the larvae of these insects were identified on 34 different species of hosting plants, mostly wooden plants. The leaf-mining Lepidoptera and Hymenoptera larvae are more likely to grow on wooden plants, while those belonging to the Diptera order prefer herbaceous plants. One of the species, Phyllonorycter issikii (Kumata) found here was signaled for the first time in Romanian fauna, while other ten species were encountered for the first time in Moldavia. Keywords: leaf-mining insects, Forest Reserve of Hârboanca, Romanian, fauna.
