Charleston Riverdogs Game Notes Charleston RiverDogs Game Notes Game 24 Columbia Fireflies (8-14) vs. Charleston RiverDogs (10-13) Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park, Charleston, S.C. 5:05 p.m. – Sunday, April 28, 2019 TBD Today’s Starters RHP Alexander Vizcaino (1-1, 4.40) Last RiverDogs Game: April 27 South Atlantic League 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E COL 1 2 0 1 0 0 1 0 2 7 8 1 CHS 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 X 2 5 3 2019 First-Half Standings Luis Medina fought for his command with every pitch he threw Saturday night as the RiverDogs fell 7-2 to the Columbia Fireflies in front of 4,661 at Joe Riley Park. Medina (0-2, 9.64) ran into trouble Northern Division W L GB right away, issuing a walk to Brian Sharp after fanning Fireflies (8-14) leadoff hitter Anthony Dirocie. Delmarva (Orioles) 17 3 - Two wild pitches aided Sharp in advancing to third, and an error on Wilkerman Garcia allowed West Virginia (Mariners) 15 6 2.5 Columbia to take an early 1-0 lead. Hickory (Rangers) 15 7 3.0 Greensboro (Pirates) 13 9 5.0 The erratic night for Medina was just beginning, though, as Columbia pushed two more tallies across Hagerstown (Nationals) 10 13 8.5 in the second inning. Medina hit Fireflies catcher Juan Uriarte after walking second baseman Walter Kannapolis (White Sox) 9 12 8.5 Rasquin, and Dirocie brought them both home with a two out single. Medina was able to work a Lakewood (Phillies) 8 15 10.5 scoreless third, despite allowing a single, walking two more and throwing another wild pitch, but the Fireflies ended his night after the fourth, when the second error of the game on Garcia and the fourth wild pitch of the night from Medina allowed Columbia to push their fourth marker across. Southern Division W L GB Lexington (Royals) 11 11 - Doggie Bites Greenville (Red Sox) 11 11 - • Sunday Blues: In the Julio Mosquera-era, the RiverDogs are 12-14 on Sunday games since the Augusta (Giants) 10 11 0.5 start of 2018. This season, Charleston is 1-1 through the first two Sunday games, winning the Charleston (Yankees) 10 13 1.5 fourth game of the Opening Series in Columbia 7-2 before losing two weeks ago to the Rome (Braves) 9 13 2.0 Greensboro Grasshoppers 11-2. With a win today, the RiverDogs can clinch their second series Asheville (Rockies) 8 14 3.0 win of the season against the Fireflies. Columbia (Mets) 7 15 4.0 • Cool Story, Breaux: Catcher Josh Breaux drove in two more runs on a single last night, adding to his team-leading RBI total of 14. He has seven in his last four games, and each of his last five hits have all driven in at least one run, including six of his last seven. • See ya!: Despite all the offensive struggles to start the 2019 campaign, the RiverDogs pitching staff has held up its end# Second so far -HalfRiverDogs Division Winner Quick Stats this season. Charleston pitchers have performed much better than their 4.11 collective ERA; if you remove Luis’ Medina’s 1st Half Record: 10-13 forgettable first start in which he allowed 10 runs in two innings, that ERA drops to 3.69, and the starters’ ERA by itself drops 2nd Half Record: 0-0 from 3.40 to 2.55. The Dogs pitching staff has also struck out 10 hitters in four straight games, as well as in 15 of their last 16 Home Record: 5-8 contests, aiding their SAL-leading total of 249. Road Record: 5-5 Current Streak: L1 • They’re sick of us: After winning the first two games of the series, the RiverDogs dropped game three Saturday night. Current Home Streak: L1 Entering play Sunday, though, Charleston has still won five of the first seven games it has played against the Fireflies, Current Road Streak: W1 outscoring Columbia 32-20 in those contests. This Homestand: 2-4 • Locked in: Brandon Lockridge snapped his two-game hitless streak with a couple of knocks on Friday night and earned Last Road Trip: 1-2 another double in four at bats last night. He’s been unlucky to start the season, as he enters play Sunday with just a .186 Last Five: 2-3 batting average, but he’s made his hits count. 11 of his 16 hits have gone for extra bases this season: 7 doubles, 2 triples and Last Ten: 4-6 Team AVG (rank): .220 (11th) 2 home runs in his 21 games so far this season. Team HR (rank): 15 (5th) • Get back on track: Starter Alexander Vizcaino is looking to bounce back from a rough third outing of the season, when he Runs Scored: 82 (T11th) allowed four runs on five hits in 4.2 innings April 22 against the Kannapolis Intimidators. The RiverDogs righty is still looking Team ERA (rank): 4.11 (11th) for his first scoreless outing of the season, as he has allowed at least one run and walked at least two opposing hitters in Team K (rank): 249 (1st) each of his first three starts. He has contributed to the Dogs’ high strikeout total, with 21 in his first 14.1 innings. Team SV (rank): 6 (T3rd) • It’s Semple, You’re Gone: RiverDogs reliever Shawn Semple has been dominant out of the gate in 2019 as one of the Minor 2019 vs. COL: 5-2 League’s most prolific strikeout pitchers to start the year. The University of New Orleans product has been one of the most electrifying bullpen arms in all of the minors lately, fanning 32 of 75 hitters faced to start the year (42.7%), a strikeout rate that ranks third in all of Minor League Baseball to start the season; he also ranks 12th in total strikeouts. Semple enjoyed a brief 2-game call-up to end last season with Charleston, when he struck out 17 over 12 frames and garnered “South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week” honors. When Semple is ahead in the count, opponents are hitting just .115 (3-for-26) against him, including 0-for-12 when he gets ahead 0-2. • Pinstriped Prospects: The RiverDogs will again tap into a deep farm system in the New York Yankees. Losing some of their organizational talent due to promotions and trades in the last year, the Yankees’ farm system fell from the second-best system in the game to 20th on the Baseball America rankings heading into 2019. Despite this, the Bronx Bombers are stocked with intriguing talent at the lower levels of the farm system, including seven of the Yanks’ pre- season Top-30 prospects set to open the season with the RiverDogs (MLB.com/BA): RHP Roansy Contreras (10/7), RHP Luis Medina (14/11), RHP Luis Gil (13/25), C Josh Breaux (15/30), RHP Matt Sauer (17/10), OF Josh Stowers (25/--), and RHP Tanner Myatt (29/--). 2021 swb railriders 2021 swb railriders triple-a information On February 12, 2021, Major League Baseball announced its new plan for affiliated baseball, with 120 Minor League clubs officially agreeing to join the new Professional Development League (PDL). In total, the new player development system includes 179 teams across 17 leagues in 43 states and four provinces. Including the AZL and GCL, there are 209 teams across 19 leagues in 44 states and four provinces. That includes the 150 teams in the PDL and AZL/GCL along with the four partner leagues: the American Association, Atlantic League, Frontier League and Pioneer League. The long-time Triple-A structure of the International and Pacific Coast Leagues have been replaced by Triple-A East and Triple-A West. Triple-A East consists on 20 teams; all 14 from the International League, plus teams moving from the Pacific Coast League, the Southern League and the independent Atlantic League. Triple-A West is comprised of nine Pacific Coast League teams and one addition from the Atlantic League. These changes were made to help reduce travel and allow Major League teams to have their affiliates, in most cases, within 200 miles of the parent club (or play at their Spring Training facilities). triple-a clubs & affiliates midwest northeast southeast e Columbus (Cleveland Indians) Buffalo (Toronto Blue Jays) Charlotte (Chicago White Sox) Indianapolis (Pittsburgh Pirates) Lehigh Valley (Philadelphia Phillies) Durham (Tampa Bay Rays) a Iowa (Chicago Cubs) Rochester (Washington Nationals) Gwinnett (Atlanta Braves) s Louisville (Cincinnati Reds) Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre (New York Yankees) Jacksonville (Miami Marlins) Omaha (Kansas City Royals) Syracuse (New York Mets) Memphis (St.
